Bull & Bear at Waldorf Astoria NY

Bull & Bear at Waldorf Astoria NY by www.carlosmeliablog.comBull & Bear at Waldorf Astoria NY  |  New York, United States  |  Last night invited by my dear friend Michael Romei, Chef Concierge at the Waldorf Tower and General Secretary of UICH Les Clefs d’Or, along with our other friend Alejandro, we shared and enjoyed a lovely evening at one of the most iconic restaurants of New York, the Bull & Bear Prime Steakhouse. VIP treatment right from the start, when we were informed that we were seating at the Waldorf Astoria’s General Managers table, and the excellent service, efficient and professional, but yet friendly and relaxed. We even had the joy to have Celso Moreira, Concierge and Manager on Duty, to stop by and have a little chat with us. There is so much history and myth in these two rooms, that makes the whole gourmet experience even more enjoyable and rich. Every week, when the three of us are in New York, we get together to try a new restaurant and share week with each other. Continue reading Bull & Bear at Waldorf Astoria NY

The Pompadour Restaurant

The Pompadour Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe Pompadour RestaurantEdinburgh, Scotland | One of the things which quite strike me during my recent visit to Edinburgh, Scotland, was the number of FABULOUS restaurants available, for such a lovely but tiny destination. The Pompadour Restaurant was not an exception, on the contrary was pretty much on my top 05 rule. I guess I could define myself as a foodie, but what I truly enjoy, is the experience overall. I am not a gourmet connoisseur, but I do know how to create experiences and tell a travel or gourmet story, and The Pompadour, has quite and interesting one, lead by this legion of young professionals, who will blow you away with the style, knowledge and artistry, and make your dining experience a truly memorable one.  Continue reading The Pompadour Restaurant

Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam

Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam by www.carlosmeliablog.comArizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam  |  Phoenix, Arizona  |  They call themselves “The Jewel of the Desert”, I rather refer to them as a piece of heritage from the old, longed, Hollywood Glamour, setting the standard for elegance and style. Arizona Biltmore became world renowned as the preferred luxury oasis for celebrities, heads of state, captains of industry and other famous travelers. One of the only existing luxury hotels in the world with a Frank Lloyd Wright-influenced design, and if you know who he is, you will understand my excitement. I mean, to this hotel, I gave a pass on any minor details or issues, this property cannot be seen or judged as a regular resort, but as for its iconic architecture, and legacy of elegance and opulent luxury for nearly a century.
Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam by www.carlosmeliablog.comDifferently to what many assume, this resort was designed by Albert Chase McArthur, a Harvard graduate, who had studied under Frank Lloyd Wright. Reason why I mentioned “influenced by”. One of the many things I learnt, after taking one of their History Tour (signature service by Waldorf properties worldwide).

Biltmore Block by www.carlosmeliablog.comAmong other things I learnt, including some juicy gossips of that time, was the nature of the “Biltmore Block” (see photo above), which is the DNA and structure of this hotel. The Biltmore Block features a geometric pattern that is said to represent a freshly cut palm tree, made out off indigenous materials, pre-cast concrete blocks were molded on-site and used in the total construction of the resort.

Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe pools at the Arizona Biltmore have many interesting stories to tell and share, perhaps Marilyn Monroe’s favorite pool is the one to top. Did you know that the famed song composer Irving Berlin penned many tunes, including “White Christmas” while sitting poolside at the Arizona Biltmore?
Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe Arizona Biltmore boasts 740 guest rooms and is one of the largest hotels in Arizona. 78 one-and two-bedroom villas. Eight swimming pools. Seven tennis courts. A full-service resort spa, salon and fitness center. Five dining options. The adjacent Arizona Biltmore Country Club boasts two of the best 18-hole PGA golf courses in Phoenix: The Links and The Adobe. The resort is managed by the Waldorf Astoria group. Yes I do agree that most rooms in need of a facelift, process that has started at the Ocatilla Wing and will continue throughout the entire property next.
Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe resort is divided and structured by Wings. I was hosted at their premium wings called Ocatilla at a Club Deluxe Room. This is a retreat and private sanctuary within the resort itself, where a dedicated concierge attends to individual needs in a well-appointed, relaxed lounge environment and continuous culinary offerings are showcased throughout the day.

The resort has undergone major renovations, and my Club Deluxe Room (which you can see above), is a clear example of the  new concept and style the rest of the hotel will be going for within the next year and so. Ocatilla has access to its own private pool.
Wright's Restaurant at Arizona Biltmore by www.carlosmeliablog.comWright's Restaurant at Arizona Biltmore by www.carlosmeliablog.comDining at Wright’s Restaurant, was an outstanding culinary experience. Signature dining venue at the resort offering fresh cuisine that reflects an innovative culinary style characterized by fresh, local ingredients that are hearty, yet simply elegant. You can read my full post here. Unfortunately I was not able to try any of the other restaurants.
Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe Wright’s Bar, features a Piano and lots to stories to tell. Birthplace of the Original Tequila Sunrise, was not strange gathering for celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, Sammy Davis Jr., hiding from the glitz of Hollywood.
Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam by www.carlosmeliablog.comOne of my favorite rooms at the Main Building of the resort is the legendary “Mystery Room” which opened in the midst of Prohibition. A club masqueraded as a “Men’s Smoking Room” requiring a secret password for entry and accessible only through a secret passage that started behind the resort and traveled up a hidden staircase from the kitchen. The striking stained glass ceiling, was the key for the gentleman in the room, to return to their rooms and the booze to be tucked back into the room’s hidden bookshelf. Their was a spotlight, out in the roof, that was officially known to guide guests at night, and unofficially used to search the desert for police raids. Whenever a raid approached, the spotlight would shine through the Mystery Room’s stained glass roof warning the guests. There are plans and rumors of the soon return of this Speakeasy Glory to the resort.

Arizona Biltmore signature Hollywood Glam by www.carlosmeliablog.comArizona’s historic Grand Dame radiates an undeniable mystique of refinement and splendor. I will say this in a very positive and constructive way, which I openly shared with the management and marketing team… I so wish they would further embrace and revive the heritage and glamour of their time. What else can I say, other than, I would have need more time to connect and explore this incredible property. I look forward for a soon return. For those of you interested to experience the Arizona Biltmore, know that when booking through me, you will get other than advantageous deals, the following extra amenities: Continental Breakfast for two Daily + $100 Food and Beverage Credit Voucher for Frank & Albert’s, per Room, per Stay + subject to availability at the time of check-in: Upgrade. GUERLAIN Spa at the Waldorf Towers

GUERLAIN Spa at the Waldorf Towers  |  New York, United States  |  Yesterday, getting ready for the gala dinner I was assisting, at the 24th GLAAD Media Awards, I decided to pamper myself getting a nice facial at the fabulous GUERLAIN Spa, located within the stunning and iconic Waldorf Astoria Hotel, although I must admit, spoiled me, ha ha ha, I always come by the more exclusive side, by the Waldorf Towers, on 50th Street. The experiences I would define it as customization, luxury, emotion, and sensuality.
The experience was beyond relaxing, quick and very chic. I was in a rush, running from work appointments to get ready to head to the gala dinner, so my therapist in a very professional way, took care of me in form and time. The room was well set, perfect temperature and ambiance. The bed was very comfortable and had its own heating system. All the products used were of course by Guerlain.
Guerlain Spa offers a wide array of therapies for men.  Take time for yourself to relax and invigorate.  Treatments include; Deep Tissue Massage, Waldorf “As You Wish” Massage, Ultimate Experience, Scalp Massage, Energizing Facial, Skin-Saver Facial, Nail Treatments and more. All Guerlain Spa Treatments are available to men.
Every pampering experience at the Guerlain Spais transformed into a unique and personal occasion, performed with expertise and exceptional virtuosity, setting a tone of instant tranquility and creating a journey of personal transformation. Their aestheticians begin each treatment with a systematic analysis and precise skin diagnosis to reveal your individual beauty and well-being profile. They gain understanding of your essential concerns to tailor a treatment according to your needs and your expectations. I went for a 50 minutes Energizing Facial. Give your skin a boost! Uncover a fresh complexion through deep cleansing. Exfoliation, massage and mask, coupled with a complimentary eye treatment, create a more radiant, smooth and luminous skin. (approx. USD 195 ). Trianon Palace by Waldorf Astoria

Trianon Palace by Waldorf Astoria   |  Versailles, France  |  One of the choices I made on this trip, that I feel most proud about, was to visit Versailles and stay overnight, unlike most tourists that rush back to Paris, after visiting the Palace and the gardens. And my home during this experience, was the beautiful Trianon Palace by Waldorf Astoria. Walking along the lakes and gardens of the palace, once everyone is gone, was one of the most rewarding experiences I have had on my time in France so far. A journey that connected me back to the times of Louis XIV. Versailles is a suburb of Paris, some 20 kilometres southwest of the French capital.

The hotel is located right next to one of the main entry gates to the gardens of the Palace. So how about being the neighbor of the Palace of Versailles and all is tradition for at least a night.? To me it sounded fabulous, and that is why I did it.
Trianon Palace Versailles – an exceptional woodland retreat nestled on the edge of the tranquil Royal Domain. Steeped in tradition yet thoroughly contemporary, this high-design hotel features gourmet dining and an exclusive spa. I must admit that I was expecting a bit more sumptuosity, and a different type of crowd at the hotel, but yet the experience was beyond expected.

Witness the splendour of France’s leading luxury retreat. Situated less than a mile from the world famous Chateau de Versailles, and only 20 kilometres outside Paris, this fashionable Chateau de Versailles hotel recently benefitted from an artful, full-scale redesign, adding an air of tasteful, modern elegance to our atmosphere of regal luxury. Find solitude among centuries-old trees and lush, vivid gardens, newly updated by famous landscape designer Louis Benech. Experience a splendid reflection of our palatial surroundings within the sumptuous style and decor.
Relax with friends or simply unwind with a drink at Bar Gallery, open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Warm and casual, bathed in the soft glow of antique chandeliers. So we did, we enjoyed some cocktails at the bar of the Trianon Palace, before heading to our VIP Tours of the Versailles Palace, together with my friend and colleague Nathan Fong, renown Canadian Food Stylist and TV Host.
Gordon Ramsay at the Trianon. 2-Michelin-starred Gordon Ramsay au Trianon, where exquisite French cuisine is enjoyed against the stirring backdrop of the Parc de Versailles. It was not my choice of the night though. I mean, being always in between New York and London, I can have Gordon Ramsay anytime. Instead I took the expert advise of the Les Clefs d’Or Concierges and had a lovely Versailles gourmet experience at a small French Bistro, only 10 minutes walk from the hotel – Le Boeuf à La Mode Restaurant Versailles.

The spa of the hotel by Guerlain, features a Spa Treatments, and heated Indoors Pool and a State of the Art Fitness Center. Experience a blissful re-awakening of body and spirit at the exquisite Spa Guerlain. Your transformation begins amid our sanctuary of luxury and relaxation, where powerful healing treatments unite with contemporary, modern design. Although I strongly recommend to go out for a run along the gardens of the Palace of Versailles before breakfast at La Veranda Restaurant, instead of running in the treadmill, does that sound like a nice plan to you?
So now you know. Why not having your own Palatial experience of Versailles, spending a night at a true Trianon, just steps away from the magnificent Palace of Versailles. Get the Queen (or King) out of you and visit the Trianon Palace Hotel by Waldorf Astoria, at least for a night, you wont regret it. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends
