Rabat transitioning from France to Fes – My week in Morocco by Relais & Châteaux

Rabat transitioning from France to Fes – My week in Morocco by Relais & Châteaux | Rabat, Morocco |After an amazing and very hectic week in France for ILTM 2016 in Cannes, I was ready for my next experience and first ever – long overdue – visit to Morocco. This invitation came to me by Relais & Châteaux Africa, to sample in a week most of Morocco’s key destinations. Being this my first time, I said yes right away. Here is my journey across Morocco, from Rabat, through Fez and along the Atlas Mountains to Marrakesh and beyond. Our First stop, and port of entry was the city of Rabat, where we spend the morning and afternoon, to later head to our next destination. For more tips and recommendations, check and follow me on Instagram, to see all my minute-to-minute past/current/future post and experiences on Morocco. Birthday celebration at ELEVEN MADISON PARK Restaurant

Eleven Madison Park RestaurantBirthday celebration at ELEVEN MADISON PARK Restaurant  |  New York, United States  |  Celebrating my 41st Birthday, last night my partner Rubin Singer, took me for a fabulous fine dinning experience out in New York. His line was, you are so jaded and you have experience almost all in terms or cuisine and hospitality, but I will yet surprise you. And so he did. 3-Michelin-starred restaurant Eleven Madison Park by Chef Daniel Humm under the Relais & Chateaux portfolio, was quite outstanding and indeed a great discovery. Do Leoni Ristorante at Londra Palace

Do Leoni Ristorante at Londra Palace by www.carlosmeliablog.comDo Leoni Ristorante at Londra Palace  |  Venice, Italy  |  I am confident to say that Do Leoni was, food wise, the best gourmet experience we had on our 2013 visit to Italy. Perhaps not the most striking to the eye, compared to other restaurants we tried in Rome, Tuscany and Florence, but indeed they know how to portray and carry the Relais & Châteaux heritage, by putting together a fantastic sophisticated yet casual and friendly gourmet experience. The Maitre D was outstanding. Was a pleasure to watch Samuel Baston, 1st Maitre d’Hotel Sommelier, and all his staff, work their art, which you could tell they feel beyond proud off. The ‘Do Leoni’, which renders homage to the symbols of England and Venice, is the pride of the Londra Palace, and outside guests are also welcome.  Continue reading Do Leoni Ristorante at Londra Palace

Relais Borgo Santo Pietro Tuscany

Relais Borgo Santo Pietro Tuscany by www.carlosmeliablog.comRelais Borgo Santo Pietro Tuscany  |  Florence, Italy  |  One of the best decisions I made while curating this fabulous trip to Italy, was to choose driving from Rome to Florence, over taking the train. It took us approx. four hours and a half, door-to-door from our hotel in Rome, The First Hotel (which BTW was lovely, and I will blog about soon) to our new hotel the very lovely Villa San Michele by Orient-Express in Fiesole, up on the hills overlooking Florence. And the second best decision, was to stop for lunch at the uber chic Relais Borgo Santo Pietro in Tuscany. We left Rome around 10.30PM and by 1.30PM we were seated overlooking the Tuscan Valley and drinking local wine over a fantastic gourmet experience. Like someone said “There is nothing like drinking wine at La Toscana”. Continue reading Relais Borgo Santo Pietro Tuscany

Fabulous lunch at Saint James Paris

Fabulous lunch at Saint James Paris  |  Paris, France  |  By renown Chef Virginie Basselot, located at the 16eme arrondissement, one of the most exclusive districts of Paris, and within the eclectic, traditional and uber chic Saint James Hotel by the Relais & Chateux collection. Only a few tables open to general public for dinner and exclusive to the hotel guests or members of the club for breakfast and lunch, a way to keep the ambiance, allure and crowd of the hotel and the restaurant in premium style and sophistication. It feels so good to be treated like a guest and be served with courtesy and kindness, not a common gesture in Paris. The whole design and concept of the hotel and restaurant was created by designer Bambi Sloan, whom is very well known of shaking up tradition with talent, humour and fantasy.
In the dining room, Bambi commissioned copies of major 19th century paintings from Italy. Heavy curtains lined with trimmings, small black pedestal tables, leopard print carpets and velvet upholstered comfortable chairs, with one central chandelier surrounded by smaller ones around the room. Huge windows overlooking the gardens, Paris first airfield where hot air balloons use to take off. You may choose for indoor or outdoor seating.
Invited by the management of the hotel, I was lucky enough to experience their brand new menu, with a strong French identity and main focus on fish, seafood and red meat. Excellent presentation and experience while being served. My choices were: Spider Crab rolled in turnip, passion fruit and coriander, spicy shell broth (EUR 30).

My main course was Anglerfish and mussels from the Mont-Saint-Michel with curry and celery (EUR 41). All matched to perfection by the expert your Sommelier.

Dessert was a Belle-Hélène pear, spicy chocolate sauce. A true refined dining experiences at a very sophisticated ambiance, not for nothing Conde Nast has given Saint  James Paris, three flames and rank them into the Traveler Hot List 2012. Delicate, spicy and decadent at the same time. Saint James Paris For more information about Saint James Paris or bookings www.saint-james-paris.com. For now Bon Appetit et Merci. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Hotel Check IN at Pan Dei Palais Saint Tropez

Hotel Check IN at Pan Dei Palais Saint Tropez  |  St Tropez, France  |  Located over Rue Gambetta only three blocks away for the promenade of the Port of St Tropez, and surrounded by chic stores and lovely restaurants, this small boutique hotel by Relais & Chateauxfeatures 10 suites, a Thai/Indian/French fusion restaurant and a beautiful outdoor lounge next to the heated pool at the back garden. Near the “Place des Lices” in the old town of Saint-Tropez, a stone’s throw from the port and its legendary addresses, a finely carved wooden door invites you to enter the Pan Deï Palais.

I arrived this afternoon from Nice to St. Tropez, on board of the Bateauxon a very easy commute, and even easier walk from the ferry station to the hotel.  Welcome to this warm and inviting setting with ornate wood carvings dating back over a century and many different objects from Asia. Serenity and escapism come together within a tranquil intimacy, making for a totally unique and relaxing getaway. The hotel overall has, same as the tales of St Tropez and big Thai / Indina fusion combined with the classic French style.

My suite is very comfortable and spacious, featuring double closets, a working area, and a huge bathroom with double sinks, shower and bathtub. I was lucky to get one of the pool/garden view suites on the first floor, with lovely views. In shelters of inquisitive looks, enjoy complete relaxation and unexpected tranquillity around the pool, right at the heart of the busiest village on the Côte d’Azur.

I will be posting more about this property upon check you. Special thanks to MJL Select hotels for arranging this stay at Pan Dei Palais for me. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Hotel Check IN Hotel Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro

Hotel Check IN Hotel Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro  |  Rio de Janeiro, Brazil  |  Heard about the area of Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro, so many times, that this time and visit I decided to come and spend a few nights here. And what better place to do so than the 2010 Wallpaper Design Award winner Hotel Santa Teresa, the chosen hotel by Amy Winehouse for her visit to Brazil. Romantic, chic, sophisticated, sexy… a combination of all this with the stunning colonial and panoramic views of Santa Teresa. A full different experience of Rio de Janeiro, away from the cliche of Ipanema and Copacabana. Continue reading Hotel Check IN Hotel Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro
