Hotel Check IN Club Frances Buenos Aires

Hotel Check IN Club Frances Buenos Aires  |  Buenos Aires, Argentina  |  Today I Checked IN for the next two nights at the Club FrancesBuenos Aires, in the neighborhood Recoleta, in Buenos Aires. During it’s more than 140 years of history, the Club has hosted personalities from politics, science, culture and sports world, always with an important presence and heritage of French origin. The hotel has 28 rooms, of with only two Deluxe Executive Suites like the one I am being hosted at.

It feels like old style traditional Argentina with true French heritage. The throw on my bed is Chinchilla, the furnitures are original, beautiful balcony, and a dry sauna in my bathroom. Suites on the front of the building have a very traditional and heavy French style, original French furnitures, wood floors, gold leaf wall plaques and heavy fabrics with prints. The back of the house is more modern in a contemporary Art Nouveau style.
The Club Frances itself, is the main building of the original house, which dates from 1866. On top of  the house, they have built a tower where most of the rooms are located. Stunning pieces of art, original wood work, marble fireplaces decorate with sophistication the club and the rooms.
The Hotel Club Francés Restaurant offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in a classic building full of history. Its setting is based on the restoration of antique furniture and works of art. The arrangement of the tables simulates a luxurious private dining room. Also on the second floor, the club has three rooms for events, with stunning chandeliers as the main protagonists.

I will be posting more comments and my full review on the hotel upon check out, after my two nights experience at Club Frances, during my stay in Buenos Aires. Stay tuned. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Customer Feedback Kathryn, Bob and Matt

Customer Feedback Kathryn, Bob and Matt  |  Trip to Argentina & Uruguay  |  It makes me beyond happy and proud when my clients send me texts like this. BTW the hotel they loved is the brand new HUB Porteño Buenos Aires, Argentina. (www.hubporteno.com) Now they are lounging in Jose Ignacio, Punta del Este, after spending New Year’ Eve in El Calafate and El Chalten. She quoted …” The trip has been the greatest. U have done and exceptional job!!!…” CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Thank you for HELPING US HELP

Thank you for HELPING US HELP  |  Buenos Aires, Argentina |  Sneak peak of Haute Experiences and Carlos Melia Recommends cocktail last night at the Rooftop Terrace of the brand new boutique luxury HUB Porteño Buenos Aires. Thank you everyone for joining us, HELPING US HELP. We collected lots of toys to be handed today at one of the local hospitals, to draw a smile on this Christmas on child’s faces. THANK YOU and Happy Holidays everyone.

Special THANKS to Gonzalo R. – owner of HUB Porteño and all their staff for their support and help to make this happen and for a lovely evening.
Again lots of toys we collected, thank to all the attendees, to be handed today at a local hospital in Buenos Aires, for kids in need, with HIV/AIDS or Cancer. Because every child deserves a toy for Christmas, and you all made it happen. We know is a busy time of the year, lots of events, people traveling to see their families, so we extra appreciate taking the time to stop by and HELP. The best phrase I take onwards from this 2012, is from Aung San Suu Kyi, which I have slightly tweaked to my own believes …” Use your Freedom and Success to promote others…” Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.  CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Sirop & Folie Restaurant Casual Chic

Sirop & Folie Restaurant Casual Chic  |  Buenos Aires, Argentina  |  Nestled at one of the most charming alleys of Buenos Aires, right in Recoleta, is Sirop & Folie, managed and run in a very casual chic style by Agus Numer.  They define themselves as contemporary Argentinean Cuisine. Open for lunch, hight tea, dinner, Brunch or your own private event.

Nice, relaxed and unpretentious ambiance, with a rather eclectic crowd, showing bits and touches of refinement, which made me think about the Casual Chic title. Tradition, simplicity and good taste. Service was a bit slow, but they were on a rainy Wednesday night totally sold out, and that should mean something right. Sirop comes from their origins as tea house and pastry lounge. Folie could be interpreted as madness or extravaganza, and both fit to their casual refined and eclectic style.

My choice for the night was very healthy. I was there with my two local great friends, and we decided to share all plates and taste everything. But my own personal choices were the following: Cherry tomatoes, almonds, arugula, goat cheese and olive vinaigrette Salad. (USD 11)

As the Main Course I went for chicken breasts marinated with celery, toasted almonds, onion chutney and sweet potato chips. This was just what I wanted. It was strongly recommend it. (USD 12)
To finalize our Contemporary Argentinean Cuisine experience, I could not help the tempting sound of a Tarte Tatin, caramelized apples with ice cream on Sablee dough. (USD 9) For more information or bookings www.siroprestaurant.com Buen Provecho CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

HUB Porteño homemade luxury experience

HUB Porteño homemade luxury experience  |  Buenos Aires, Argentina  |  Their slogan is Live you own local experience in Buenos Aires, and this is the HUB and heart of this new project that opened only three month ago, in the heart of the district of Recoleta. They propose six experiences based on all or any of the following: Art, Entertainment, Countryside, Tango, Culture and/or Polo. From the moment you step foot into HUB Porteño, you can feel and experience the sophistication and exclusiveness, achieved by using only native elements, materials and creations.

Homemade Luxury, to me means bespoke service, resembling the true nature of the Gauchos, welcoming you with a warmth and professional informality that makes you feel special and taken care off, without distant stiffness or fake protocol.
At the beginning of last century lots of artisans and craftsmen arrived to Buenos Aires, seeking for a land of opportunity when war and the crisis pushed them away from their original countries. The city received them generously, and today you can appreciate part of these artisans refining work and extinguishing European legacies at HUB Porteño.

The first contact is the outer door that welcomes with a striking Art Nouveau ironwork craft specially designed by Juan Carlos Cantaluppo and his son Martin, who has nothing to envy to the Art Nouveau first Belgian designs.
The same applies to the stained glass lamps that crown the magnificent entrance hall completely covered in marble.

The textiles of llama and sheep that give warmth to the walls of Hub Porteño´s restaurant “Tarquino”, were spun with the same craftsmanship used in colonial times in Argentina Andes and Patagonia. Tarquino is the restaurant of the hotel, here you can enjoy your breakfast and lovely dinner under a glass dome with the main presence and noises of what I have named, the Tarquino tree . Modern yet traditional, Argentinean restaurant, with sophisticated homemade touches

Nestled in the most upscale block in the exclusive neighborhood of Recoleta, The Hub has 11 rooms designed to make you feel at home, providing all the amenities and services found in luxury hotels while leading you through new and unforgettable experiences throughout the city. I was hosted by them for two nights at a wonderful BACAN Suite. (aka. Bacan, the Argentinean expression for a bon vivant ). Bathrooms, mirrors and windows to the open interior gardens, are to me the true stars of this suite.

The video above is of one of the Suites. Leather, wood and pieces by artisans-artists like Angel Capano participate ornamenting ceilings, mirrors and furniture with gold and copper trim fillets. This artist was trained in the workshops of the Colón Theater, a privileged witness of the city’s magnificent cultural craft past. The carved mirrors, work led by Raul Vidal, are presented to witness the legacy brought to Argentina by the children of the Austro Hungarian, whose appreciation is now in vogue in the hands of world-renowned Philippe Starck. Finally, much of the chairs, tables, desks, antique porcelain, lamps and chandeliers were chosen in the marvelous and varied antique market in Buenos Aires.
The Rooftop Terrace is quite charming and promising to become a happening spot for only a few lucky ones in Buenos Aires. Ideal to celebrate private events or just to relax over a drink during the summer time. I am myself hosting a cocktail there tomorrow night for a group of 40 people to promote the launching of my new company Haute Experiences in Buenos Aires.

Basic but fully equipped fitness center with beautiful open views to the inner gardens. Also HUB Poteño offers one massage room and a dry sauna.
Was everything outstanding, well of course not. They’ve just opened three month ago, and they need time to settle down and finally mature their own concept and personality. But they are welcoming feedback, listening very carefully to what people like I have to say, attitude that in no time will take them to be ranked and feature at Conde Nast or Travel & Leisure’s Best Hotels in South America List. I know I know, their website is a bit discouraging and tricky to navigate, but they are already working on the second version, which will fully portray the simplicity and sophistication of their approach.

Spaces with a strong local identity in a boutique hotel, draws on the tradition and the contemporary, Hub Porteño aims to be a reflection of what makes Buenos Aires a cosmopolitan city and that distinguishes her as one of the most attractive cities in the world right at the most traditional neighborhood Recoleta. Porteño Gourmet Experience 101

Porteño Gourmet Experience 101  |  Buenos Aires, Argentina  |  So today I was supposed to have dinner with friends and they cancel, then with family and they cancel on me too, no my lucky night. But hey I am very well used to travel solo and dine and wine on my own, and I must admit I ENJOY IT. So I decided to have my full down and dirty Porteño Gourmet experience and I did indeed. When was the last time in your life that you saw a real Sifon on a table, amazing right ?
Porteño Gourmet 101. Going local down and dirty. Milanesa con Papas Fritas, wine of the house and Soda. Can’t get better than this in Buenos Aires. No renown chef, no Zagat review, no Michelin Star, just plain, traditional and basic tasteful food on a plate. I came to El Rinco Bar & Restaurant, which is located in the neighborhood of Recoleta, but to be honest there are so many amazing local restaurants like this in the city, that you just need to find out the best at the area where you will be staying. Buen Provecho. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

BEYOND Gay Martini Bar Buenos Aires sneak preview

BEYOND Gay Martini Bar Buenos Aires sneak preview | Buenos Aires, Argentina | Will Buenos Aires get back on its feet and revamp a sophisticated, trendy and interesting Gay Night Scene, that somehow, sometime along the way, in the last two years, has totally  been lost ? Well judging from what I have seen today, the answer is YES. BEYOND, the first ever Gay Martini Bar of Argentina and of the city of Buenos Aires, right over Juncal street, meters away from 9 de Julio Avenue in Recoleta. Today, Edgar its owner – original from Chicago, US – invited me to a sneak preview of what by late May 2012 will become, hopefully, Tuesdays thru Sundays, into the hub of the Gay Scene of Buenos Aires.
