It is the oldest bridge across the canal, and was the dividing line for the districts of San Marco and San Polo. I came to visit before I lunch at the lovely, recently opened, Aman Grand Canal, which is only steps away. Like Ponte Vecchio is to Florence, Ponte di Rialto is to Venice. This bridge dates to 1181, originally built out of wood, like it was painted  on the Miracle of the Cross at the Ponte di Rialto, also known as The Healing of the Madman painting by Italian Renaissance artist Vittore Carpaccio.  Continue reading Rialto Bridge and Market
