For sure FOOD, WINE and renown international CHEFS are a few of them. Well San Francisco Night Market by ForageSF is the true expression of that. Eat your way through San Francisco.
The SF Underground Market is a venue where you can taste and purchase the food that is being produced in backyards and home kitchens in the Bay Area. Every vendor at the market is someone who is trying to make their passion their profession, and a market like this shows that it’s definitely possible. To sell at a farmers market, you need to produce your wares in a commercial kitchen. This is an impossible expense for many of them, so the underground farmers market is about helping to get some exposure for all of their fellow producers without the cash for a commercial kitchen.
Now you might ask yourself, WHY they promote themselves as a Night Market and all photos are during the day. Well due to their incredible success and attendance, they have decided to extend their hours, and now you can enjoy both versions of SF Underground Market. A market, and a live show, all rolled into one. This time the market took place at Public Works on 161 Erie Street, San Francisco. Day Market from 11am – 4pm and the Night Market about to happen from now till 2am. So if you are in the area and still riding this, loose your belt and get ready for it…. Admission: $5, $10 after 11pm.
ForageSF is a wild food community in San Francisco. They organize underground dinners and the SF Underground Market. Their goal is to push people out of the supermarket, to get them trying new foods harvested sustainably and fairly by their neighbors. As part of our community focused philosophy, 50% of the profit from the sale of any product we purchase from a forager goes straight to that individual . That is, to the person who collected it.

Carlos Melia at The New York Times Travel Show |  New York, Javitz Center |  Yesterday  I had the honor and pleasure to share an informative and educational panel at The New York Times Travel Show on ” Discover the LGBT Markert ” along with colleagues LoAnn Halden – IGLTA, Kenneth Hieber – Gay2Africa, Andre Rojer – Tourism Curacao, and the professional/sassy/interactive moderation of Travel Expert Ed Salvato.
Way over and hour, we cover topics, such us Gay Travel, Gay Adventure Travel, Lesbian Travel, Gay Luxury Travel, Gay Cruises, The Caribbean and the LGBT Market, Africa and the LGBT Market. Three of this main topics were appointed to me as the specialist in those areas: Gay Travel to South America, Gay & Gay Friendly Cruises and Luxury Gay Travel. We ended up the session with a round of Q&A.
By the feedback of the attendees and other travel colleagues, writers and LGBT marketing experts such as Craig KarpelDan Allen, Mark Thompson – MRNY and Edge on the net and Justin Ocean… the panel was very interesting, diverse, informative and funny.
The New York Times Travel Show is one of the most important Travel Expos in the United States, and to us LGBT members of this travel industry, is an honor to be able to present and share with other mainstream professionals, media and general public our experiences, knowledge and tips.
(*) NOTE: At the end of this panel, I was informed by LoAnn HaldenIGLTA International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association – that my application to be a guest speaker at the upcoming 2011 IGLTA’s Annual Global Convention ” Unleashed “ had been approved, therefore I will be conducting an educational seminar on How to develop successful LGBT Travel Blogs. (Ft. Lauderdale May 10-15th 2011). Look forward seeing you all there.
