24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards New York

24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards New York  |  New York, United States  |  So last night, both Rubin and I assisted to the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards gala dinner, which took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City, honoring Anderson Cooper with special guests like Madonna.
For over 25 years, GLAAD has worked with news, entertainment and social media to bring culture-changing stories of LGBT people into millions of homes and workplaces every day. GLAAD amplifies the voice of our community to keep equality at the forefront of America’s cultural conversation. Their impact on newspapers, magazines, blogs, radio, television, movies and more transforms attitudes to bring about real change. Our table, hosted by Lauren Foster, one of the world’s most recognized transsexual women, having been one of the first to pose for Vogue Mexico in the 1980’s, consisted on old and new friends. We were only two tables away from Anderson Cooper’s table and on the second row to the stage, so we got to enjoy the gala in full. I had the great experience to be sat down next to reality Real Housewife of New York, Countess LuAnn de Lesseps and her fiancé. Both were very charming, warm and friendly, I have to say.

But as we all know, the most important of the night, was to celebrate and honor those people and professionals in Media and their efforts and contribution towards LGBT Rights. This year the honoree was Anderson Cooper, American journalist, author, and television personality. He is the primary anchor of the CNN news show Anderson Cooper 360°. Madonna herself, was the one in charge to present the award. See all the videos taken by me last night.
Madonna referred to Anderson as: you have the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen, you are intelligent, but most important you are a “Bad ass mother Fucker”, inviting him to start a revolution together with her.
An emotive and inspiring night, that continued with a private after party at the TOP of The Standard Hotel (aka. Boom Boom Room, yes the same place where I celebrated my 39th Birthday this same week). So we all enjoyed some cocktails and the stunning views of the Big Apple on a clear night with a little bit of the last snow falls of this 2013 winter.
GLAAD Media Awards invite you to celebrate the most outstanding images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in the media at the largest, most visible LGBT gala in the nation, the GLAAD Media Awards!. New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco with over 5,000 attendees, the GLAAD Media Awards bring celebrities, corporate partners, media professionals, and young adults together in support of GLAAD’s mission to amplify the voice of the LGBT community and achieve full equality! Get involved by visiting GLAAD.org
Lovely night, as I said, with old and new friends, but overall with the pride and feeling that we have supported and helped for a fantastic cause, one that has been my duty for many many years now, before as Mr Gay International, as a Gay Travel Agent and now as a Gay Travel and Lifestyle global reporter. As I always say, using the words by Aung San Suu Kyi …” use your freedom to promote others…”, and that is what both I and my partner Rubin Singer, both believe and cherish.
For the fashionistas out there, wondering who dressed me for the night, well of course no other than Rubin Singer, previewing his new collection of Bespoke Male Tuxedos. Special thanks too, to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and the Guerlain Spa for the treatments in preparation for this Gala Dinner. Stay tuned for more news on Rubin Singer’s Male collection at www.rubinsinger.com. Hope you have enjoyed my coverage of the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

Happy Birthday to me  |  New York, United States  |  Yesterday was my Birthday and I enjoyed the entire day a total Dolce Far Niente mood. 39 years old, and feeling at the top of my game. As I said a long while ago, I feel so empowered by my partner, friends and family. Beyond grateful with life and absolutely NO REGRETS. A private moment, that I would like to briefly share with all of you, my dear followers worldwide. Hey 40s wait for me… I will get there in a year, but don’t rush please…
Best Birthday EVER. Dear friends from all walks of life, family (on the phone and in spirit, all the way from Argentina) and my life companion and evrything, Rubin. I feel sooooo blessed. Those on the photos or not, that were part of my night tonight I LOVE U ALL. Thank you Sean and everyone at the TOP of the Standard Hotel Manhattan for such a lovely night. Embracing 39 and loving it… BTW thank U everyone around the world for your BDAY wishes.
OH an before I forget, sorry but I cannot stay away for my professional duties, even on my Birthday. During my year I stay at some of the top luxurious hotels in the world, and they ALL keep my Birthday information when I Check IN. Only four hotels congratulated me yesterday on my 39th Birthday. Not that they HAVE to do it, but this to me shows true Customer Relations. So the BEST CUSTOMER RELATIONS Awards go to: Baltschug Kempinski – Moscow, Russia. Design CE, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Estancia Peuma Hue, San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. Amantaka by Aman Resorts, Luang Prabang, Laos. Kudos to you all, keep the great work, in these little details, resides the true essence of Luxury. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

The Standard Hotel New York City

The Standard Hotel New York City |   Meatpacking District, New York City |  Trendy (yes, just by seating at the lobby or at any of their multiple bars and restaurant you get the feeling of that), Great Locations (yes, right of the High Line and in the heart of the Meatpacking District, meters away from the Hudson River Park), Hot Spot (yes, New York debauchery, with the former Boom Boom Room, Standard Grill Restaurant and the new Le Bain Discotheque and Roof Top Bar), Would I stay there (yes, for all the previous reasons…) I would stay to experience trendy/young/cool/fashionable Manhattan, but not quire sure if I am am too crazy about the rooms concept. Boom Boom Room Standard Hotel New York

Boom Boom Room Standard Hotel New York |  Meat Packing District, New York | Come on… go ahead and just ask me. Carlos which is your absolute favorite Roof Top bar in New York so far? Well my friends, after tonight I would have to say that Boom Boom Room at the Standard Hotel in NYC is the one.
Deadly combination of great atmosphere, design, crowd, views and music. What else, gay or straight can you ask for.? So far my absolute favorite roof top in NYC. On the 18th. floor of the Standard Hotel New York, with views of the Hudson River and lower Manhattan, and the city on the other side with the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings.
But hhmmmm kind of brings me memories of my premium roof top bars in Hong Kong, but quite not there yet… anyhow between you and me….. I think they copied the bathroom concepts of the FELIX at The Peninsula in Kowloon. Just to say… watch out Philippe Stark. Those who know what I am talking about will understand.
I was there with my favorite and contemporary colleague Lyndsey Green, the Travel Agent of the starts. Little gossip, just between you and the other 70K people that read this blog, she is the private fantastic absolute VIP travel agent of Lady G. if you know who I am talking about…. yeah Don’t be a Drag, just be a Queen. !!!
Anyhow and summarizing, are you in town… plan to spend a brief evening at the Boom Boom Room, decent drinks, Prosecco and cocktails. Hot bartenders, trendy gossip girls and lots of fun. Sorry it is just on the 18th. floor. Otherwise why bother going to the Top of the Rock right.
Reporting live from the TOP of Manhattan, with the best night panoramic views of the Hudson River with a glass of Prosecco in my hand. CM
