MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant

MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comMALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant  |  New York, United States  |  MALBEC, Tango and Argentina finally, have found their own space in the Big Apple over Lafayette Street. Soft opening, only 10 days ago, this multi-space located door to door to iconic Indochine in No-Ho,  integrates in perfect balance an Argentinean Wine Bar, International Restaurant and the only Tango Show, Buenos Aires and Porteño style in New York city. Last night I came to learn more about their offer and I was immediately transported back to Buenos Aires as I walked through their doors. Not another Argentinean restaurant, here you wont find a classic “parrilla”, since the stars at MALBEC House are the extensive list of premium Argentinean wines and the fantastic Tango show they play 6 days a week, featuring a wonderful live band and four couples, to entertain you for an hour with sounds, moves and images of Buenos Aires.
MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comMy advice for a perfect experience would be, same as I did: 06.30PM dinner at MALBEC House located on the the ground floor level. Here you will have a taste of international cuisine with some classic Argentinean dishes like Empanadas, Humitas or Veal Chop “a la Milanesa”, paired to perfection by their Sommelier, imported same as the wines, all the way from Argentina. Once again, the star at MALBEC House, as the name makes reference, is the wine. Therefore expect a simple but tasteful and colorful menu. My choices for the night were: Buffalo Mozzarella Fennel, Cherry Tomatoes and Lobster (USD 20) + Artichoke Canneloni with Lemon Sauce (USD 22) and a deconstructed sample of Alfajor de Dulce de Leche. Not just another Argentinean restaurant .
MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comApproximately at 8PM come down to the lower level, to TANGO House, to enjoy a cocktail or remain on the path to great premium Argentinean wines, as you transition to the back door speakeasy cabaret, with graffiti walls and curtained VIP balconies, where you will be delighted, by recently imported dancers and band, with a uniquely curated Argentinean Tango Show. I am personally quite familiar with Tango shows and performance, and I must say I was quite surprised by the level and performance of the dancers and live band. My favorite moments were Oblivion by Piazzolla, danced by a Russian couple – just perfection, and the sounds of the bandoneón, played graciously by a young sweat girl with quite an interesting story behind. See two short videos I did last night during the live performance VIDEO 01 and VIDEO 02.
MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comIndeed a different night out in Manhattan, maybe the preface to your next trip to Argentina, an intimate romantic night, a gathering with friends and family, or like I do… a place to come and feel at home “Mi Buenos Aires Querido” while away from home in the Big Apple. Museo EVITA

Museo EVITA by www.carlosmeliablog.com Museo EVITA  |  Buenos Aires, Argentina  |  Slowly I am catching up on my report on my last trip to Buenos Aires. One of the things I did was to visit the Museo EVITA. This was not the first time I came to visit this house, but it was indeed the first time I really made the effort to spend time and learn more about this woman who defied the times she lived. I am not one of her fans AT ALL, but I must admit she became a global icon, and for that my respect and interest, personal opinions and believes aside. To me, ignorance is the worst enemy of a point of view, and I totally disagree with the saying …”What you don’t know, wont hurt you…” on the contrary, so off I went to learn more about this polemic and controversial lady. Visit the Museum, and make your own conclusions.

Museo EVITA by www.carlosmeliablog.comEva Duarte, the little girl from the province of Buenos Aires which became known actress. Eva Peron, the wife of the beloved leader, leader herself, responsible for major changes within the Argentinean society. Evita, the myth, admired/hated figure in the world, potentiated by her untimely death.
Museo EVITA by www.carlosmeliablog.com The Permanent Exhibition is organized circularly, starting with the evocation of Evita’s funeral through a short audiovisual presentation. The museum tour is proposed for the visitor, almost linear, chronological way, from Evita childhood, her family, the years of childhood and adolescence, the trip to Buenos Aires from Los Toldos, its beginnings in the world entertainment: radio and film. Then it will first encounter with Peron, her role as First Lady, the European tour, women’s suffrage, the creation of the Female Peronist Party and his work with state policies. All this, telling the seven years of public life and her active and direct social assistance, to its historic renunciation and the illness that led to an unexpected end. Finally the tour takes visitors to a space which presents the legacy of thought and work of Evita.
Museo EVITA by www.carlosmeliablog.comMuseo EVITA is located at Lafinur 2988, in the city of Buenos Aires. (open Tuesdays – Sundays 11AM to 7PM) For more information www.museoevita.org. I have my own point of view, as Argentinean and as a person that has taken the time to learn about her life, work and legacy… unfortunately I must say I stand on the opposite side from those who cherish and idolize her, but always good to learn about facts and the history of your heritage, and on top of that you get to see all the great looks she wore throughout the years.
Coca Sarli at Museo Evita by www.carlosmeliablog.comNow the highlight of my visit, was the Temporal Exhibition “100×100 Argentino” including billboards of other iconic personalities of Argentina. 100 Argentine personalities, from politics, sports, science, art, portrayed in an exercise that requires young people to connect with personalities of the last 100 years. I fell in love, particularly with the one on Coca Sarli, a retired Argentine actress, and glamour model, known for her sexploitation films. Sarli is a considered a cultural icon and the quintessential sex symbol in her home country.  CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Buenos Aires The Silver City

Buenos Aires The Silver City by www.carlosmeliablog.comBuenos Aires The Silver City  |  Buenos Aires, Argentina  |  This morning after 10 hours flight, I landed in Buenos Aires. Photo above is of the sun coming out over Buenos Aires, while landing at EZEIZA International Airport. The silhouette of the city with the Rio de la Plata behind shinning silver as the sun came out. Buenos Aires the “Silver City”. Argentina = Argentum (Ag) = Silver. The paradigm traced back to the first voyages made by the Spanish and Portuguese conquerors to the Río de la Plata which means “Silver River”, in the first years of the 16th century. But the sad truth is that La Plata Basin does not have any sources of silver, the only source can be found as far as I know close to Peru. Just sharing some Etymology. Anyhow, excited to spend the next two weeks here in Buenos Aires and surrounding areas. Gay Planning Mode is back and next week I am full hands on planning my 6th International Gay Wedding. All to be posted at www.carlosmeliablog.com — at Rio De La Plata.

Gay Planning mode is back, June 7th, to plan a Gay Wedding, once again, this time for a lovely couple from the Republic of Guayana. But in the meantime, as I always do, I will take sometime off to explore new and traditional options. This time I will be reviewing the following hotels and services, some of them I have tried before, but since I am taking my boyfriend, Rubin Singer, for his first visit to Buenos Aires, I want to show him the best the city has to offer: HUB Porteño Buenos Aires and their private tours “Experiences of the City”. Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires and their new look after their big renovation. The iconic and traditional Alvear Palace Hotel and their brand new sister property the Alvear Art Hotel. Two days getaway to one of my favorite spots close to Buenos Aires as it is San Antonio de Areco, to show Rubin the true heritage of Gauchos and the Pampas at Estancia La Bamba de Areco and some intimate dinners at Tarquino Restaurant and ROJO Tango Show & Dinner. As usual all to be posted and featured here and at my Social Network. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends
