OpenOpenSkies BEST Non-Stop New York / Paris by www.carlosmeliablog.comOpenSkies BEST Non-Stop New York / Paris  | Paris, France |  Hi there everyone. !!! I am back. I took a few weeks break from work and the blog, and ran to Paris to assist, my partner Rubin Singer during Paris Fashion Week 2014. Lots to share, kiss and tell. Fabulous hotels, restaurants and tips, so we need to catch up indeed. But on this trip I got to experience for the first time OpenSkies by British Airways. I have used this airline in the past for clients and they all raved about it, so I decided to give it a try, and I must say I AM OBSESSED with it.  Continue reading OpenSkies BEST Non-Stop New York / Paris

DELTA Airlines Experience JFK/ROM-LHR/JFK

DELTA Airlines Experience JFK/ROM-LHR/JFK by www.carlosmeliablog.com DELTA Airlines Experience JFK/ROM-LHR/JFK  |  Airlines  |  For my recent trip to Europe, I flew Business Class DELTA Airlines from New York JFK to Rome, and return from London, back to New York. I must say, I was happily surprised by their seats, service, meals and overall experience. Punctual, comfortable and smooth, despite a lightning struck our aircraft Boeing 676-400, just as we were taking off London Heathrow, which caused quite a scene and noise onboard. The incident was clarified by the Captain, not as quick as the entire crowd would have liked but comforting. The highlights were: Seat was very comfortable, full flat 180º bed, BusinessElite seats that cradle you from head to toe. If you are traveling solo, I like the concept of single window seats. Meals, celebrity chef and Napa tastemaker Michael Chiarello, were quite good and in perfect portions, with a nice selection of wines. Services was impeccable and very polite throughout the entire flight. Downfalls to me were: The entertainment system was not operating correctly, at least at my seat, which made watching the movies, rather unpleasant throughout the seven hours flight. Noise-canceling headsets could be improved. Amenity Kit is basic. Bathrooms are small for a Business Cabin.

DELTA Airlines Experience JFK/ROM-LHR/JFK by www.carlosmeliablog.comCheckin IN at JFK New York was nothing to be mentioned other than as most other airlines you are granted PRIORITY Access through security points. In London Heathrow, you get access to a separate private check in area, were the entire process is easy and seamless. As for the lounges, when flying BusinessElite, you get access to the Delta Sky Lounge in New York, and the SkyTeam shared lounge in Heathrow. Note that flying BusinessElite, you are not allowed to bring any companions, only if you have a high status on their Frequent Flyer Program or you hold a Platinum of higher AmericanExpress card. The lounge in New York was way too overcrowded, so we decided to leave, being most seats taken and almost no food left. The lounge at Heathrow was much more enjoyable, featuring two levels, and the tranquility you would expect from a lounge.

DELTA Airlines Experience JFK/ROM-LHR/JFK by www.carlosmeliablog.comFly in a flat-bed seat and sink into complete relaxation with full 180º recline. Speaking of full, you’ll also enjoy a full-size pillow, direct aisle access, more privacy and oversized personal entertainment screens. Stay productive, stay entertained or stay rested — the choice is yours. It’s nice knowing it’s all right there when you need it. Each flat-bed seat is outfitted with an electrical outlet and USB port, so you can keep your electronics powered up.

DELTA Airlines Experience JFK/ROM-LHR/JFK by www.carlosmeliablog.comI must point out the excellent Lost & Found service by Delta Airlines. One of the members of our group, lost his phone on his flight from New York to London. A week after, when checking in, he was taken to the Lost & Found area, and his phone was there waiting for him, in a plastic bag, identified by date, flight number and seat.  DELTA Airlines Experience JFK/ROM-LHR/JFK by www.carlosmeliablog.comI must be fully honest, and say that I was not expecting much from an US carrier, as mentioned above, I was greatly and happily surprised by Delta Airlines International. Giving a new chance to UNITED Airlines

Giving a new chance to UNITED Airlines  |  New York, United States  |  Yesterday I decided to give United Airlines a new last chance. Based on my last horrific experience with them from LAX to NYC, and based on my many complains, the granted me a complimentary ticket anywhere within the United States. Since I have to come to Orlando for my family reunion, I decided to use it. Also I did not want to risk it, and had to be onboard again with them for more that 2 hours, just in case you know, and Orlando was the perfect fit.
Booking process was simple and easy. This time I decided not to carry much luggage with me, and only take my carry on, which saved me to pay the USD 25 they charge you for every single bag you check in. Checked in online, and printed my ticket at Newark Airport.
For some reason, they upgraded me from Economy Class to Economy Plus, which features extra leg space. Seat was quite comfortable. Also I must say the entertainment system was very good with a nice selection of movies and TV shows. No WiFi yet. The power outlet in between seats, was there, but out of order, so not much help on that side. The crew was friendly, professional, well groomed, with a smile all the time and a great disposition, but of course, they were Continental Airlines cabin crew team, which makes a HUGE difference, at least to me.
The third time’s the charm, they say. Thank God this time they got it right, and we made peace. But hey United, I will be watching, so don’t mess it up. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Lufthansa always makes me happy

Lufthansa always makes me happy  |  Germany  |  After having flown with them several times, I have realized that every time I step foot into one of their planes, I feel happy and I smile. From the moment you check in, mind your point of departure in the world, during your transit at any of their state-of-the-art terminals in Germany, till you get your luggage at your final destination, it is such a pleasant, enjoyable and effortless experience. Everyone smiles, and that is a lot to say being a German airline right.
I am usually very critical of airlines, but you have to admit that some of them just most of the times they get it right, and if not, they have the right attitude to help you or solve any glitches on your experience. This time I flew from the busy Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, Russia all the way to Charles de Gaulle in Paris, France with a short and pleasant connection at the Lufthansa Terminal in Munich.
The Lufthansa Business Lounge in Moscow was very nice and big, offering a bar with several types of hot/cold drinks and snacks, business center, showers and a huge living room. Only comment is that the internet was almost non operative, which for a Business Lounge is not what you would expect. The terminal in Munich was perfect as usual, offering all passengers, regardless their class, complimentary hot beverages. Also always innovative and cutting-edge, offering the new NapCabs sleeping solutions, check them out.
Onboard, the seat pitch is comfortable. Flight attendants are always smiling, willing to assist you, doing several rounds during the flight offering beverages. Meals are of a decent size, well balanced and healthy. Alcoholic drinks free of charge. No entertainment system or WiFi, but each flight were very short with the connection in Munich.
Once again Regional European flights with Lufthansa are an experience that always make me happy, especially when I get to my final destination on time, in this case Charles de Gaulle in Paris, and my suitcase arrives in time and tagged properly with the Priority Transit Tag. Thank you Lufthansa for making our flights safe and enjoyable. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Combat skin dehydration from air travel

Combat skin dehydration from air travel  |  Carlos Melia  |  I spend a big part of my life on planes, and although being, most of the times, a great pleasant experience and an easy way to move around, it might have a few drawbacks for your skin and health. The air inside of a cabin has a humidity of 10 to 20 percent, extremely low, leaving you feeling depleted and with the sensation of dry skin. This may cause discomfort during and post flight, but also may put you at risk of respiratory infections. To avoid this combat fight dehydration by: Drinking plenty of water. Bring with you a good moisturizer. Bring eye drops. Avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. Consider using a good Nasal Spray… and seat back, relax and enjoy your flight. Now after your flight, take good care of your skin, yeah I know, the things you have to do to remain young and beautiful, after a long flight. Moisturize you skin, keep drinking plenty of water and use a good face mask to cleanse and purify. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

This is WHY I choose not to fly UNITED

This is WHY I choose not to fly UNITED  |  United States  |  And there are the reasons, based on my own experiences, why I choose not to fly United, at least when I have the choice not to do so. Yesterday I was confirmed in Business Class from Los Angeles to New York City – UA 233. This was the case from beginning to end. And now, apparently, I will have extra 3000 Bonus Mileage Plus Miles on my account, which will be credited in 14 days. Really 14 days to credit miles to an account ? Well trust me I will do my follow up on this and keep you all posted. Continue reading This is WHY I choose not to fly UNITED

Aerolineas Argentinas Club Economy aka Business Class

Aerolineas Argentinas Club Economy aka Business Class  |  Buenos Aires, Argentina  |  Just arrived to Buenos Aires, all the way from Rio de Janeiro on Aerolineas Argentinas. I must say that although I would have hoped for more, I was quite happily surprised to see Aerolineas Argentinas back on track, with new aircrafts, new looks both on the planes and on the crew, and professionalized customer service from the moment of the Check IN and onboard. Why the service fell a bit short… read below. There is always room for improvement and constructive criticism is the best way to start. Social Media VIP Status by Bangkok Airways

Social Media VIP Status by Bangkok Airways  |  Thailand  |  This morning from my hotel in Phuket, while packing, I tweeted …”04AM in the morning AWAKE packing. On my way to the airport to take my @bangkok_airways flight from #Phuket to #Krabi. GMorning #Thailand…”, as I normally do, to keep everyone up-to-date of my whereabouts and then headed off to Phuket International Airport. Innocently and unaware of the power of Social Media and the excellent CRM – Customer Relationship Management, that both airlines and hotels master in Asia. I was fully stunned by what happened next. Bangkok Airways Asia’s Boutique Airline

Bangkok Airways Asia’s Boutique Airline  | Bangkok, Thailand   |  I have to say that today I was happily surprised by the service of Bangkok Airways. They will be my carrier for my whole itinerary while touring around Thailand. At the beginning when I got my tickets I was rather concern, but after my flight today from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, I am more than happy to carry on with them for the rest of my flights including, Krabi, Phuket and Koh Samui.
