The Venetian Resort & Casino

The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe Venetian Resort & Casino  |  Las Vegas, United States  |  Last week during my stay in Las Vegas for the YLC 2013 Conference and the LTX 2013 Convention, I was hosted at The Venetian Resort & Casino. Reviewing and experiencing hotels in Las Vegas, is always a daunting task, due to the size and number of outlets, attractions and restaurants within each property. So I decided to keep it simple and to just comment on what I’ve got to experience and see.  Since I was busy with the convention and conference, I was not able to enjoy much of the resort, featuring signature Canyon Ranch SpaClub, Venetian Pool Deck (which I tried but it was way too overcrowded for my taste), and the TAO Beach.

The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.comLet’s say that all I got to experience, was my suite on The Venetian Tower, a few of their restaurants, their featured show Rock of Ages and some strolls along the streets of Venice (which by the way were dry!!!).

I was hosted at a Suite at The Venetian Tower. 36-story four-stats resort, The Venetian features all suites accommodation, I would say being the biggest entry level suites in The Strip. I was very happy with my suite, although of course, me being me, I would have preferred to stay at their Palazzo Tower. I was hosted (video above) at a Luxury King Suite  – 650 square feet – Roman tub, plush king-sized bed with Egyptian cotton sheets to the sunken living area complete with HD TVs and plush furnishings. My concerns with this suite were: Lightning concept: I could not see anything. Low lights, I assume to save energy. Color Palette: too rustic, sad and outdated to my own taste. You can pretend to be in a Tuscan Villa, but even those have been refurbished. Bathroom amenities were a total disappointment for such an all-suite property. Unfortunately I was never able to see the suites at The Palazzo Tower, but I heard great things about them. TIP. !!! If you go Palazzo, the way to go is PRESTIGE. You will thank me.

The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.comWhen booking The Venetian or Palazzo through Carlos Melia Network you will receive the following extra amenities: Continental Breakfast for two Daily at Grand Lux Café  + Two Complimentary Indoor Gondola Tickets per Stay (approx. saved value of USD 300 calculated on a 2 nights stay).
The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.comAs for my gourmet experiences within The Venetian Resort, I must highlight three of them. Pinot Brasserie (photo above), located on the Restaurant Row. Classic French bistro fare with a West Coast accent, by celebrity chef Joachim Splichal. Intimate setting, exquisite cuisine.
The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.com
Now if you are a regular follower of my blog, you will know by now that I am a huge fan of Noodle Soups at any time/meal of the day. I was beyond myself when I found out that The Venetian hosted not one, but two Noodle Soup restaurants in property …” Thank God for the ongoing on growing Asian market…”. So most of my meals were are either Noodle Asia, and ZINE Noodle Dim Sum.  The second more formal that the first one, but I strongly recommend both. Finally I must admit that two mornings I did cheated over my soup breakfasts, having some Bouchon croissants and coffee, come on, who can blame me right.
The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.com
I would say it was a great stay. Not my favorite resort in Las Vegas, but I must say that room size, location and service wise was a very pleasant experience. I still have the crave to return and to experience and be pampered at the PRESTIGE levels over at the Palazzo Tower, to have a well rounded and final verdict over the entire resort DNA. Gambling wise, well let’s say I am not a huge fan of it, and as much as I would love to wear my Tuxedo and play all night thought filthy vodka martinis I feel this is not really my crowd. Therefore I sticked to the shows, brasseries and walking up and down The Strip. CM @ Carlos Melia RecommendsThe Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.com The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.com The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.com The Venetian Resort & Casino by www.carlosmeliablog.com

Rock of Ages Las Vegas

Rock of Ages Las Vegas by www.carlosmeliablog.comRock of Ages Las Vegas  |  Las Vegas, United States  |  Following my four reports on the shows I saw during my last visit to Las Vegas, Rock of Ages ranked second as my favorite production along the Vegas Strip. Fun, engaging, well performed, and entertaining, although being the longest show I’ve seen ever in Las Vegas. Rock of Ages plays at The Venetion Resort & Casino. For those of you not familiar with the story,  Rock of Ages tells the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit and Sherrie, a small-town girl, both in L.A. to chase their dreams of making it big and falling in love. Rock of Ages takes you back to the times of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair! See my reviews on the other shows: Michael Jackson ONE, ZARKANA and ANSINTHE. Just a little warning and constructive criticism to all Las Vegas Strip shows, in particular to Cirque du Soleil. Sometimes having seven OK shows at the same time, does not equal to having one that is GREAT. And to the rest in general, well I felt most shows lacked of energy, and they all felt over-rehearsed, where you could tell the cast had to perform twice a day, at least 6 days a week. You know like when you go horseback ridding, and the horse walks knowing by hard the way to go, and you are just there pretending…. well that is how I felt. But hey shaded me right. ABSINTHE Las Vegas

ABSINTHE Las Vegas by www.carlosmeliablog.com ABSINTHE  |  Las Vegas, United States  |  I must say after having seen four shows along the strip during my stay in Las Vegas, last week, I must say this was the one with the least production, and the one with the most excitement and entertaining of them all. Naughty, fun, exotic, erotic, wild and wacky are just a few words to describe this acro-Burlesque cabaret show, recommended only for adults over 18+.  Sassy and debauching comedy, sexy cast and wild acts happening merely feet away from the audience. I will let the videos say the rest. TIP is you are black, asian or white, gay or straight…. regardless what you are, be ready to be the center of the jokes, and they are ruthless with a very sharp but funny sense of humor. ABSINTHE plays in front of Caesars Palace in the Roman Plaza. For more information visit their website – www.absinthevegas.com. Enjoy the show. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

ZARKANA by Cirque du Soleil

Zarkana by Cirque du Soleil Las VegasZARKANA by Cirque du Soleil  |  Las Vegas, United States  |  Last night I went to see ZARKANA, after a previous night of Michael Jackson ONE also produced by Cirque du Soleil, which left me wanting more acrobatics and signature WOW moments. Both the last and newest productions/shows by Cirque. Zark, the ringmaster of an extraordinary circus coming back to life, guides us in an abandoned theatre populated by a motley collection of off-the-wall characters and incomparable acrobats. Among other attractions, he introduces the Mutants, four sirens as sinister as they are fabulous. Zarkana,  playing at the Aria Resort & Casino, an acrobatic rock experience that blends circus arts with the surreal to create a world where physical virtuosity rubs shoulders with the strange. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil

Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil by www.carlosmeliablog.comMichael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil  |  Las Vegas, Nevada, United States  |  So today I arrived to Las Vegas, and right after checking in at my hotel, invited by Cirque du Soleil and Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, I got myself to the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino right on time to enjoy my first show while in town. Michael Jackson ONE, is one of the six current productions by Cirque de Soleil, being performed along The Strip. Developed between Cirque du Soleil and the Estate of Michael Jackson.  ONE is heartfelt tribute to the work, innovative spirit, and legacy of Michael Jackson – the King of Pop, the genius, the visionary, the One.

The producers claim to be a reinterpretation of the King of Pop’s influence, infused with theatrics and acrobatics for which Cirque du Soleil is known. During and hour and a half, you will go through the entire repertoire of Michael Jackson’s classics. So if you are a fan, you will love it and have a blast. Now if you are like me, who likes the artist enough, but more the show he used to deliver on stage, perhaps ONE fell a bit short on acrobatics, dance and a few rather dull moments with excess of paraphernalia, basic visuals and flying acrobats. My favorite moments of the show were Beat itBillie Jean and Man in the Mirror when the spirit of Michael is brought to the stage to dance with the the cast. And of course, the moment everyone was waiting for in the crowd, Thriller. Worst moments, were to me, every single time the Guitarist dress in yellow showed on stage, looking as fake as the wind blowing her wig.

Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil by www.carlosmeliablog.comMy verdict is… if you are a fan and/or come to listen to Michael Jackson and have a great time, then DO NOT MISS IT. If you are looking to see the best exponent of Cirque du Soleil acrobats, dance and performance, then keep your options open to the other five Cirque productions along The Strip. Encore and Wynn Las Vegas go Gay by Flaunt

Encore and Wynn Las Vegas go Gay by Flaunt |  Las Vegas, Nevada |  My absolute favorite hotel in Las Vegas, Encore and it’s sister property Wynn Las Vegas are changing the concept of the gay getaway with the introduction of Flaunt at Wynn Las Vegas (April 21-24, 2011). This exclusive weekend event features some of the resorts’ hottest amenities, from the muscular performers of Le Rêve to the sizzling dancers of SINATRA Dance with Me and the tanned bodies at Encore Beach Club. Flaunt will change the way gay visitors look at a weekend in Vegas.

A few of my insider TIPS after my visit to Encore. (1). DO NOT miss a full morning at the Spa of the hotel, a sanctuary of surpassing beauty, trust me it will blow your senses, a trip to an ancient Thai temple with all the luxury that Las Vegas has to offer…. I had a 90 minutes massage which left me floating cross the corridors. The Spas at Wynn Las Vegas and Encore were the first two spas in Las Vegas to be recognized with Forbes Five Star awards. Custom-designed with meticulous attention to the care and comfort of our guests The Spas offer the ultimate personal comfort in an inspiring setting of elegance and tranquility.

(2). The shows, SINATRA Dance with Me (which I personally experienced and enjoyed. A revival of Sinatra’s songs with HOT world class dancers bring the lyrics of Frank Sinatra’s most alluring love songs to life on stage with entertaining choreographies) and Le Rêve (which I did not have time to check but heard amazing reviews about it) Offers breathtaking performances in an intimate aqua theater-in-the-round. The show features aerial acrobatics, provocative choreography and artistic athleticism. Live music and elaborate special effects immerse the audience into a world of fantasy, adventure and intrigue.
(3). Diner at Sinatra Restaurant acclaimed Chef Theo Schoenegger creates a culinary salute to Ol’ Blue Eyes featuring modern riffs on classic Italian cooking – all served in his handsome restaurant, brimming with Sinatra charisma in the Encore Tower Suites. Not over yet… the hotel boasts over 16 restaurants even one by Botero.
My favorite drinks spot at the Lake of Dreams with the Parasol Up bar, where you can enjoy a number of fine cocktails while watching the water and color collide below as the accompanying music swells along with the fountains and dancing puppets that also populate the show. It begins every hour on the hour.
Starting from $230 a night, the inaugural Flaunt weekend package features two nights in a Deluxe Room at Wynn Las Vegas; complimentary room upgrade overlooking the Las Vegas Strip or Wynn golf course; $100 beverage credit; VIP Admission for two to the official Flaunt Launch Party on Saturday at Blush Boutique Nightclub; – one of Vegas’ premier boutique nightclubs, and the opportunity to get up close and personal with the talented cast of SINATRA Dance with Me. Plus two premium tickets to Le Rêve, the aquatic spectacular; and VIP Admission for two to DAYSTAR SUNDAYS featuring Calvin Harris at Encore Beach Club.

The weekend concludes Sunday at Encore Beach Club where attendees can worship the sun at Las Vegas’ hottest day club and listen to the sounds of Calvin Harris. Having just concluded a tour with Rihanna in Australia and headlining the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Harris has also produced music on Kylie Minogue’s X and Aphrodite albums.

Encore is designed to pamper you in an atmosphere both intimate and indulgent, and the Resort Suite offers style with a comfortable, residential feel. A range from 700 to 745 square feet with floor-to-ceiling windows. Wynn signature beds with European linens. 42” or 46” flat-panel televisions featuring on-demand movies. State-of-the-art office equipment, one-touch climate control, a fully stocked mini bar and in-room safes. Bathrooms include 19” flat-screen televisions, dual sinks, sitting areas with lighted vanity mirrors, separate shower and soaking tub and separate water closets with telephones. Signature Wynn Resorts robes, slippers and amenities. Connecting rooms available.

Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour by Maverick

Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour by Maverick | Las Vegas, Nevada | Do you want to WOW yourself and have an unique experience of Las Vegas ? Like a friend of mine told me last night “…OH you were in Vegas, that doesn’t count as a trip…”. Well guess WHAT, the Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour by Maverick Helicopters made it worth it indeed.

An over 3 hours tour of the Grand Canyon with the added value of Hoover Dam, Lake MeadMojave Desert, the Valley of Las Vegas and the sunset overview of The Strip (aka. Las Vegas Boulevard). From USD 409 x person on.

Descend and land 3,500 feet into the Grand Canyon in Hualapai Indian Territory. Champagne, beverages and light snack on an exclusive panoramic bluff some 300 feet above the mighty Colorado River in one of the greatest natural wonders of the world.

Fly back and conclude your adventure with an exciting flight over Downtown Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Strip. Duration: approximately 4 hours (hotel to hotel). Departure Point: Las Vegas terminal (includes complimentary transportation to and from hotels within five miles of the Strip). Items To Bring: Camera, sunscreen, photo ID (for anyone 18 yrs or older) and if you should forget anything visit our gift shop.
