DOME Hotel – Bariloche, Argentina

DOME Hotel, rustic boutique mountain hotel ( San Carlos de Bariloche, FREY Mountain Refuge, Catedral Mountain ). I was amazed by this hotel, not only by the obvious breathtaking views… but by the unique of its concept. A rustic mountain themed hotel/tent located on the stream of the lagoon of FREY Refuge.

After walking for almost 4 hours from the base of Catedral Mountain to the top at FREY Refuge, you would never expect or believe to find a hotel there. Well YES there it is…. !!! And on my next trip to San Carlos de Bariloche, be assured that I expect to spend a night there, enjoying the clear sky views and bonding with the local people.

Prices are very low, including diner and breakfast. Bookings in advance are EXTREMELY suggested, since at the moment there is only one tent available. Plans to add extra rooms are in the near future. For bookings do not hesitate to contact me.

Posada los Juncos Bariloche

Posada los Juncos (San Carlos de Bariloche) • Patagonian Lake House a charming small boutique hotel that perfectly mixes local tradition and style with the warmth of a home. Managed and run by their owners, you will feel welcomed, pampered and taken care. An informal living room where all guests of the house gather to share their day experiences touring around San Carlos de Bariloche, and tell a little bit more about themselves.
The house is majestically situated overlooking the shores of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. Same view you will enjoy every morning while having an amazing home made breakfast.

Los Juncos offer 05 themed rooms (Air, Water, Fire, Earth and Soul). The video shows the deco and layout of the Water room, which actually was my room during my short visit. If there is only one critic for this charming hotel, is that the bathrooms could be a bit more spacious.
If you are not staying at Posada los Juncos, I strongly suggest paying a visit for dinner. Book in advance since they have only a few tables available. Great ambience, food, drinks and service. Local dishes by an expert chef.

(*) Keep in mind that next NOVEMBER 2010 we will be hosting a Small Gay Group to this region that will more extensively explore the region of San Carlos de Bariloche, including the 7 Lakes Route. For more information Click Here.

Seven Lakes Route Villa la Angostura and San Martin

7 Lakes Route Villa la Angostura and San Martin de los Andes • one of the most astonishing and breathtaking sceneries in all Argentina. A corridor that runs along National Route 234, linking the areas of San Martin de los Andes and Villa la Angostura. You may access this route either coming from San Carlos de Bariloche or beginning at San Martin de los Andes itself. (for those coming to the region by plane).
Great panoramic views of the 7 lakes, that from north to south, are the Lacar Lake, the Machonico Lake, the Falkner Lake, the Villarino Lake, the Escondido Lake, the Correntoso Lake (picture above), the Espejo Lake and most famous in the region the Nahuel Huapi.
My favorite and suggested itinerary would be of ( 03 days / 02 nights ) departing from San Carlos de Bariloche, to Villa la Angostura bordering the Nahuel Huapi Lake, to get to Villa la Angostura. There spend a couple of hours walking around the area and exploring the pier and port.
Jump back into your car ( or BUS for those on a budget. There are connections between towns ) and drive all the way down to San Martin de los Andes. Before getting there stop at the Panoramic View Point to capture some of the nicest shots of this small charming town. Once there PLEASE take my word and do lunch at PIZZA CALA, the best pizza and empanadas (pies) of the area. Not fancy at all but GREAT food.
Next stop, and end of your first day of this journey, one of my absolutely favorite hotels in the world, the RIO HERMOSO Mountain Hotel. Trust me once you get there you will not want to leave. The service, accommodation, food and the whole atmosphere will captivate you. A magical experience that you will remember and always want to come back. Good Night. !!!!

The second day begins late, after having a long breakfast at the outside gallery of Rio Hermoso Mountain Hotel, overviewing the Hermoso River. Next comes a long drive to another main attraction of the region, the Lanin Volcano.
Lanin is an ice-clad, cone-shaped stratovolcano on the border of Argentina and Chile. It forms part of two national parks: Lanín in Argentina and Villarrica in Chile. It is a symbol of the Argentine province of Neuquén, being part of its flag and its anthem. Although the date of its last eruption is not known, it is estimated to have occurred within the last 10,000 years.

After spending the whole day by water and land trying to conquer the summit of this colossus (which BTW will take you a few more days, lots of effort and training), we head to our hotel for the night, to be honest not expecting much, since we are 3 hours away from anything that you would call civilization. And there it is, as a mirage the Lahuen CO Thermal Hotel and Spa. It took me less than 10 minutes to throw my suitcases (the 4 of them ha ha ha hey one travels a la mode) and get into my bathing suit to jump into the Lanin’s Thermal hot water springs to relax and spoil myself (once again).
Last day… and we are now heading back to San Carlos de Bariloche. This time we take the alternative route by Confluencia, this time to appreciate a complete different scenery that, I am still undecided if it was same, or more spectacular than the previous two days. Of course we just wait around till noon, as the perfect excuse to be invited to have lunch at the Lahuen CO Thermal Spa and Hotel.
The tour will take you in silence, because you will be amazed by the views once again and the Patagonian extensions and landscapes. All while (if you dare) sipping a local and typical MATE.
You will be back in San Carlos de Bariloche by 6PM, perfect timing to either have la light dinner and catch your flight back to Buenos Aires, or to continue your journey. Keep in mind that we can assist you planning this trip or any other itinerary all over Argentina and Uruguay. So if you liked it, do not hesitate to contact me.  CM

Rio Hermoso Mountain Hotel

Rio Hermoso Mountain Hotel  |  San Martin de los Andes, Argentina  |  Rio Hermoso Mountain Hotel is definitely one of my favorite hotels in the whole world. Located approx. 15 minutes from San Martin de los Andes and 50 minutes from Villa La Angostura. From the first moment you walk in, you feel relaxation, warmth and the feeling of being welcomed. (photo: view of Rio Hermoso Mountain Hotel from the garden)

Comfortable and warm design that will make you feel like home. The hotel offers free WiFi Access, AC/Heating, great health and beauty amenities at each room. And of course my favorite feature… no TV in your rooms, who cares about TV when you have such a beautiful view to enjoy. (photo: my suite during my stay at Rio Hermoso )

The hotel and rooms have been designed and conceived in such a way that you can enjoy the intensity of Patagonia’s natural wonders and the comfort of a boutique hotel. Rio Hermoso has 6 comfortable rooms divided into Deluxe Suites and Deluxe Suites with Terrace with excellent views of the river.

Amazing views of the Rio Hermoso for the rooms and suites. At the terrace or outside at the garden, enjoy the sound of the water running, the birds while you taste the best wines and smokes from the are. Also you may watch some guests that have flown from all over the world to try Fly Fishing. (photo: the view from the terrace of my suite at Rio Hermoso)

When the sun goes down, the lobby and the living of the house becomes alive. The meeting point where all guests congregate to share their origins and mingle. Drinks, local delicatessens, and home made dishes. ( photo: ME at the Living room of Rio Hermoso ) CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends
