1-Altitude Singapore

1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore  |  Singapore  |  One of the classics when you visit Asia, is to find the most amazing rooftops bars. Like KU DE TA at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, or Sky Bar and Vertigo Moon Bar in Bangkok, Thailand. Well this time, hosted by the team at AUDI Fashion Festival, we visited 1-Altitude Bar, where we had our own table and were afterward escorted to the VIP lounge. Occupying the three topmost floors of the 282 metre One Raffles Place Building. 1-Altitude isn’t just the highest rooftop bar in Singapore —it’s the highest multi-experience lifestyle joint in the world. Able to host up to 250 guests on the rooftop alone, the Bar calls out for guests to recline and chill out over an extensive wine and cocktails menu against the mesmerising and catchy sounds of a live band and guests DJs. Other than being the tallest, I still prefer KU DE TA over them, being more chic and allowing a better view complimented by the infinity pool, which created a better and more relaxing lounging experience. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.com 1-Altitude Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.comCM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

ESQUINA Tapas Bar Singapore

Esquina Tapas Restaurant Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.comEsquina Tapas Bar Singapore  |  Singapore  |  I would say, one of my favorite casual restaurants in Singapore, and one of the best tapas restaurants I have tried in a long time, not to mentioned the fantastic creamy Sangrias yummy. ESQUINA, provides visitors to the culturally-rich Chinatown with an added choice of European cuisine to the ethnic enclave. Open from Mondays to Saturdays, Esquina serves mainly modern Spanish tapas in a unique location that is surrounded by post-war colonial buildings, hip coffee joints and ‘old school’ home style restaurants. Leading the culinary direction for Esquina is Michelin star Chef Jason Atherton, the protégé of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
Esquina Tapas Restaurant Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.comTaking after its namesake (translated from Spanish as “the corner”), Esquina is tucked away at the corner of Jiak Chuan Road and is approximately sized at 500sqf. Exuding an underground charm, ESQUINA is designed by Singapore-based Columbian architect Antonio Eraso and boasts a design concept of an old yet modern charm that is strongly reflected through Esquina’s interior. Featuring a long open communal bar and kitchen, ESQUINA aims to recreate chic European urban canteens that will be the go-to for social gatherings. Unique to Esquina as well, are specially designed stools created by a group of artists from the UK that are composed with many different parts from machines and door knobs.

Japanese/French fusion at Lewin Terrace

Lewin Terrace Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comJapanese/French fusion at Lewin Terrace  |  Singapore  | On our last night in Singapore, we were invited to try this brand new restaurant perched on the hills of Fort Canning Park. Lewin Terrace introduces to the Singapore gourmet scene a beautiful, innovative and creative marriage of Japanese and French Cuisines, by seasoned Chef de Cuisine Ryoichi Kano and award-winning General Manager and Chief Sommelier Daisuke Kawai. Lewin Terrace cultivates “Omotenashi” the spirit of Japanese hospitality, ensuring an exceptional dinning experience, at a tranquil and secluded atmosphere. French & Japanese techniques and a produce-driven approach. Housed in a gorgeous black and white bungalow that is the former residence of the Chief who headed the Central Fire Station on Hill Street. A romantic venue drawing couples for all sorts of occasions raging from dinner dates, anniversaries, to proposal dinners and couples looking to tie the knot conducting a memorable wedding.

Lewin Terrace Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comLewin Terrace opened its doors only a few weeks ago. Monday – Sundays both for lunch and dinner. Indoor seating for 66 guests, al fresco outdoors dinning/seating for 12 and a few private rooms. Dress code is smart casual. Bespoke cocktails, magic and mixology happen at the bar  by Assistant Manager and Sommelier Atan Rasyadi.

Upon booking our table, we were asked about food allergies and restrictions. Even about our preference on flowers for the decoration of the table and wines. A full customized gourmet experience. On the day of our dinner, no menus were presented. We enjoyed a 7 courses dinner, selected by the Chef including all our choices, paired with some French and Australian wines. Some of the signature dishes at Lewin Terrace include he Smoked Duck paired with Bettarazuke-wrapped Foie Gras Terrine, Charcoal-grilled Challandais Duck with Kyoyasai and Panfiried Japanese Amadai, Risotto of Amadai, Hijiki puree with Arima Sansho served Ochazuke style.

I would lower the lights, and have some Japanese/French music fusion in the background. Finding the restaurant was also a bit difficult, which I get is part of the experience, but maybe add a few more signs outside. Other than that we had a lovely evening, and a great way to close our two weeks trip to Asia, having our last dinner at Lewin Terrace. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Manhattan Bar Singapore

Manhattan Bar Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.comManhattan Bar Singapore  |  Singapore  |  Following my posts on Singapore and my favorites from my recent trip there, here I present the recently inaugurated Manhattan Bar at the Regent Hotel Singapore. Manhattan is a grand hotel bar inspired by the 19th century’s Golden Age of cocktails and fine drinking. Delivering on its name with a glamorous yet modern space reminiscent of old New York, craft bartending meets artisanal spirits to pay homage to classic and forgotten cocktails that leap from the pages of history. Savour classic and forgotten cocktails crafted from the world’s first in-hotel rickhouse and a remarkable collection of house-made ingredients. Gourmet bar bites that reflect New York’s myriad of cultures complement the inspired beverages. We had a lovely evening with local friends. If I would live in Singapore, I would be a regular of this great bar. By celebrated American Head Bartender Ricky Paiva. Featuring  a  Whiskies Room with over 100 American oak barrels from a small cooperage in Minnesota. Also a one-of-a-kind Ingridients Room housing a remarkable collection of unusual ingredients from around the world. The beverage menu will feature 25 seasonally rotating cocktails to take you on a journey through the rich history, cultures and flavors of Manhattan’s countless neighborhoods. One of the must-tries include Negroni and a first-of-its-kind trolley service. My choice was The Gibson – Death’s Door Gin, La Quintinye dry vermouth and celery bitters.  Chef Nicholas Trosien reinvents iconic New York gastronomy, serving gourmet bites, my favorites where the Vegetarian Burgers and the Shrimp Ceviche Tacos.  Two stunning private rooms compliment the sophisticated 19th century New York decor. Contemporary feel with luxuriously upholstered leather chairs and sofas and walls lined with patterned woven linen. Manhattan’s tireless attention to detail also extends to its custom cocktail glasses, handcrafted by one of the world’s oldest glass factories. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Raffles Singapore my absolute favorite

Raffles Singapore my absolute favorite by www.carlosmeliablog.comRaffles Singapore my absolute favorite  |  Singapore  |  During my last visit to Singapore, I have the chance and pleasure to visit twice the very lovely and charming Raffles Singapore, which I must admit, is so far my absolute favorite hotel in Singapore. Unfortunately since I was being hosted by AUDI Fashion Festival, we were staying at another property, but from now on Raffles  will be my option in Singapore. Their approach to hospitably is …” True luxury is not just about what you do, it’s about how you feel…” and that is what you feel and experience when you walk into this first and original property by the Raffles group. For over 125 years Raffles Singapore has been the place to stay in this thriving city. Elegant and colonial in feel, its generous proportions create a sense of calm and space.

Tiffin features authentic Northern Indian specialities including vegetarian curries for the non-meat diners. An I will soon be posting more on this. But this was my first impression of this iconic hotel, and I instantly fall in love with its architecture, ambiance and charm. Seeing the hotel at night, was a complete different, experience from what I would see the following morning. I am very happy I’ve got to enjoy both.
Raffles Singapore my absolute favorite by www.carlosmeliablog.com Raffles Singapore my absolute favorite by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe following morning I came for breakfast, followed by a two hours site inspection of the property. The legendary Palm Court, the white marble colonnades and the unique air of romantic grandeur transport you back to a more elegant age, while the seamless service, contemporary technology and attention to detail is completely of our time. Liveried Sikh doormen usher guests through an ornate wrought-iron portico into a lobby that seems unaltered from the turn of the century. Stroll the polished teak verandas past tropical gardens to suites with an elegant parlour, period furnishings, a bedroom that leads to a dressing room and en suite bathroom. Luxuriate in the history, in the scent of frangipani in the evening, in the Raffles Spa, or order room service from the legendary Raffles butlers.

Gardens by the Bay Singapore

Gardens by the Bay Singapore by www.carlosmeliablog.comGardens by the Bay Singapore  |  Singapore  |  Gardens by the Bay, has to be one of my favorite attractions in Singapore. Last time I visited this city, it was still under construction, and I was only able to get a panoramic glimpse from the Singapore Flier and the KU DE TA, but this time I made sure to come and visit. The first feeling it came through me was, being inside of a space ship, a Noah’s Arc. The Gardens captures the essence of Singapore as the premier tropical Garden City with the perfect environment in which to live and work – making Singapore a leading global city of the 21st century. The park consists on there areas, the Outdoor Gardens including the Supertree Groove, Flower Dome and my favorite the Cloud Forest. Located just behind the Marina Bay Sands complex. It is like experiencing the way we will live in the future, under perfect controlled conditions, sustainability and perpetual Spring. Access to all attractions, for foreigners, 28 Singapore Dollars.
