Saturday Night LIVE and OUT | New York, United States | So las night I experience a VIP backstage of SNL – Saturday Night Live, and got to hang out with Lady Gaga, during and post the show. I must be fully honest, I never cared much for her, and yes I got hooked up many time to her songs and marketing, but tonight I saw a different side of her. The live performer, the professional and the human being, and I must say I was impressed by them all in no particular order. Our night began at Asia Galore restaurant TAO Downtown. If I would have to describe this venue, I would say is a sort of convention center food venue, with a menu that includes every single type of Asian cuisine (and not in the best way). A huge statute takes over the room, a weird one, which combines the shape of Shiva with the face of Buddha. I do not recommend it at all. But thank God our night have much more interesting surprises ahead. So we left TAO in Chelsea, and moved to the Rockefeller Center area, to the NBC Studios and headquarters of SNL – Saturday Night Live. Thank you Lisa Medrano and Ted Harbert, Chairman of NBC Broadcasting, for the invite to see Lady Gaga live and invite us to the backstage and after party, at Dos Caminos. BTW Lisa Medrano, chose a Rubin Singer Leather jacket for the look of the night. We spent the rest of the evening watching Lady Gaga backstage right from Lorne Michaels’ office, best known for creating and producing Saturday Night Live and producing the various film and TV projects. An unique experience indeed. But of course, the after party was still ahead. A great night !!! and I got to see how generous and professional Gaga was with her co-stars. Professional shining with her own talents and generous, making sure everyone was shinning equally as her. King Cole Bar at St Regis New York | New York, Untied States | Rumored to be one of the best Bloody Marys in town, I had to get down there and try them myself. So I did. !!!! Along with my client Kathryn, we planed a date, perfect opportunity to meet for her to tell me everything about the last trip I planned for her and her family down to Argentina and Uruguay. 6.30PM sharp we were both there, looking smashing and thirsty. Enjoy an aperitif in this legendary society club where the Bloody Mary — here known as “Red Snapper” — first landed in America and was perfected. Maxfield Parrish’s masterpiece King Cole mural keeps watch on hotel guests and knowledgeable New Yorkers. If you are a fan of bar, cocktails, great ambiance, sophistication and overall a charming speakeasy, them you owe yourself a visit. I think we counted 3 Bloody Marys each, not sure if the are the best in town, but they are pretty damn good.CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

XL Nightclub New York City farewell night | New York, United States | Last night together with my friends, I said Goodbye to the night scene of New York City at least for the next two month. I am leaving to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai baby. !!! Where best to do so than at the new gay hotspot in the far west 42nd. Street, XL Nightclub. Great crowd, music and sexy looking club. The PRs of the club are the not quite good, but the people at The OUT NYC Hotel do a great job to keep everyone happy, pampered and welcomed. Anyhow the club and bar are the happening of New York these days and everyone flocks to see and be seen, rocking their best outfits, bodies and groove. The OUT NYC | New York, United States | Well it seems that West 42nd. Street area in between 10th and 11th Avenue (aka. Hells Kitchen), has lately been getting a lot of attention and happening. First the avant-garded Yotel, which I personally reviewed last week and loved, the new luxury apartments complex MiMA, and now the soon to open The OUT NYC Urban Resort which already is looking very promessing and happening. The project is forecasted to open March 2012, so we will have to wait till then to see how it develops, looking forward to stay over to review it in full. Formerly to be Axel Hotel New York, today member of the Genre Hotels group, which I must say after over 20 years in this business have never heard of, but excited to learn more about. But this is not all this complex has to offer, big names are already part of this project and others to join soon. The OUT NYC hosts New York’s most highly anticipated nightlife venue XL Nightclub featuring already well established and classic events like Rock It by Fonabaiovoss and iconic New York night scene names like John Blair. Today I was briefly introduced to XL but this weekend I was invited to come and check the venue in full action, but I can say that already got my attention, a slick venue with a nice central bar and dance floor in the back. So stay tuned for more. CM

R Lounge at Renaissance Hotel Times Square | Times Square, New York City | Have you been looking for the most fantastic views of Times Square and Broadway.? Well stop, don’t look anymore, because I have found them for you, you must pay a visit and a drink or two, to R Lounge at the Renaissance Hotel Times Square. (FYI views are fantastic all day long, but to get the TOP experience, try to get your table book from 6PM on). Last night I was invited to the Renaissance Hotel Times Square, to assist to a private event to raise funds for the True Colors Fund (Cindy Lauper) sponsored by American Airlines, Grey Goose and my dear friend Troy Masters Founder and Publisher of Gay City News. Now I know where I want to be seating for next New Years Eve. Surprise yourself with New York’s best kept secret. No matter what time of day, the views from R Lounge (voted Best Scenic View by OpenTable diners) are spectacular both inside and out. Boasting floor-to-ceiling windows and breathtaking panoramic views of Times Square, this new NYC lounge and bar comes as a welcome oasis and stylish escape from the hustle and bustle of Times Square. The menus by Chefs Jason Potter and Bromberg Brothers. American food, influenced by Italian and other international flavors. Items such as Blue Ribbon’s – by Bromberg Brothers recognized with a slew of “Top 10” and “Best Of” awards, northern fried chicken wings, grilled cheese paninis, BBQ pork sliders, and smoked salmon toast are available at R Lounge in addition to the hotel’s complete dinner menu. As if all this wasn’t enough, and after a few glasses of Grey Goose and enjoying the views with local friends and colleagues, the one and only Ms. Cindy Lauper came in to the room, looking AMAZING like always. She welcomed everyone and thanked us for supporting the True Colors Fund. (see her full speech below)
Boom Boom Room Standard Hotel New York | Meat Packing District, New York | Come on… go ahead and just ask me. Carlos which is your absolute favorite Roof Top bar in New York so far? Well my friends, after tonight I would have to say that Boom Boom Room at the Standard Hotel in NYC is the one. Deadly combination of great atmosphere, design, crowd, views and music. What else, gay or straight can you ask for.? So far my absolute favorite roof top in NYC. On the 18th. floor of the Standard Hotel New York, with views of the Hudson River and lower Manhattan, and the city on the other side with the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings. But hhmmmm kind of brings me memories of my premium roof top bars in Hong Kong, but quite not there yet… anyhow between you and me….. I think they copied the bathroom concepts of the FELIX at The Peninsula in Kowloon. Just to say… watch out Philippe Stark. Those who know what I am talking about will understand. I was there with my favorite and contemporary colleague Lyndsey Green, the Travel Agent of the starts. Little gossip, just between you and the other 70K people that read this blog, she is the private fantastic absolute VIP travel agent of Lady G. if you know who I am talking about…. yeah Don’t be a Drag, just be a Queen. !!! Anyhow and summarizing, are you in town… plan to spend a brief evening at the Boom Boom Room, decent drinks, Prosecco and cocktails. Hot bartenders, trendy gossip girls and lots of fun. Sorry it is just on the 18th. floor. Otherwise why bother going to the Top of the Rock right. Reporting live from the TOP of Manhattan, with the best night panoramic views of the Hudson River with a glass of Prosecco in my hand. CM
