MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant

MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comMALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant  |  New York, United States  |  MALBEC, Tango and Argentina finally, have found their own space in the Big Apple over Lafayette Street. Soft opening, only 10 days ago, this multi-space located door to door to iconic Indochine in No-Ho,  integrates in perfect balance an Argentinean Wine Bar, International Restaurant and the only Tango Show, Buenos Aires and Porteño style in New York city. Last night I came to learn more about their offer and I was immediately transported back to Buenos Aires as I walked through their doors. Not another Argentinean restaurant, here you wont find a classic “parrilla”, since the stars at MALBEC House are the extensive list of premium Argentinean wines and the fantastic Tango show they play 6 days a week, featuring a wonderful live band and four couples, to entertain you for an hour with sounds, moves and images of Buenos Aires.
MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comMy advice for a perfect experience would be, same as I did: 06.30PM dinner at MALBEC House located on the the ground floor level. Here you will have a taste of international cuisine with some classic Argentinean dishes like Empanadas, Humitas or Veal Chop “a la Milanesa”, paired to perfection by their Sommelier, imported same as the wines, all the way from Argentina. Once again, the star at MALBEC House, as the name makes reference, is the wine. Therefore expect a simple but tasteful and colorful menu. My choices for the night were: Buffalo Mozzarella Fennel, Cherry Tomatoes and Lobster (USD 20) + Artichoke Canneloni with Lemon Sauce (USD 22) and a deconstructed sample of Alfajor de Dulce de Leche. Not just another Argentinean restaurant .
MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comApproximately at 8PM come down to the lower level, to TANGO House, to enjoy a cocktail or remain on the path to great premium Argentinean wines, as you transition to the back door speakeasy cabaret, with graffiti walls and curtained VIP balconies, where you will be delighted, by recently imported dancers and band, with a uniquely curated Argentinean Tango Show. I am personally quite familiar with Tango shows and performance, and I must say I was quite surprised by the level and performance of the dancers and live band. My favorite moments were Oblivion by Piazzolla, danced by a Russian couple – just perfection, and the sounds of the bandoneón, played graciously by a young sweat girl with quite an interesting story behind. See two short videos I did last night during the live performance VIDEO 01 and VIDEO 02.
MALBEC House Tango, Wine Bar & Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comIndeed a different night out in Manhattan, maybe the preface to your next trip to Argentina, an intimate romantic night, a gathering with friends and family, or like I do… a place to come and feel at home “Mi Buenos Aires Querido” while away from home in the Big Apple. End of the Rainbow on Broadway

20120726-094425.jpg End of the Rainbow on Broadway | New York, United States | End of The Rainbow with Tracie Bennett as Judy Garland is the new absolute Broadway hit. It is like seeing Judy Garland be on stage once again, reliving her last year and fall down previous death while in London at the the Ritz Hotel. Tracie Bennett, is spectacular, her interpretation is beyond expected, her voice and energy. A must see and be included show, into your itinerary when visiting New York City. Her fears, her hunting past, her turbulent love affaires, and her fall down over drugs and alcohol, feeling there was nothing left to give to her public. After the show, we joined Tracie at the SOHO House for dinner, and I asked her, “…do you think that the adrenaline of being on stage ever was more than the effect of drugs and alcohol to Judy Garland.?..” and she replied “…darling unfortunatelly not, and that took her to a tragic end…” MUST SEE IT.!!! Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo by Moises Kaufman

Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo | Broadway, New York |  Theater in New York City has become my favorite plan since last year, I have to admit that I have become addicted to it, and so far I can say that I have seen most of the shows, some AMAZING, some Entertaining and Colorful and others Boring and Blunt. But even when you think you have seen all, Broadway can surprise you with plays which go far beyond the big celebrity names, famous musicals or the catchy songs. To my personal joy, there are more than one example on stage right now, and Bengal Tiger is, without a doubt, one of those. Yes they feature a big star like Robin Williams – who plays the leading role of the Bengal Tiger, but there are a several other reasons why this play is as for today among my TOP 05 Must See plays in Broadway. PAM ANN live in New York reloaded by Steven Slater’s presence

PAM ANN live in New York reloaded by Steven Slater’s presence |  SOHO, New York |  If you thought that PAM ANN was hilarious, her last show at Joe’s Pub in New York city went beyond surreal, with the presence in the audience of Steven Slater, the 38-year-old former JetBlue flight attendant, who allegedly cursed out an entire aircraft, grabbed a beer and then exited the plane by deploying the emergency slide. I mean to TITANS unite for only one cause, make fun of Airlines, Flight Attendants and their passengers.
For those of us who work in the Travel and Hospitality Business, and spend more hours that we can count on planes, we can related to every single impersonation and situation. My absolute favorites are Virgin Airways, British Airways, Japan Airlines and of course Alitalia.

On a separate note, Joe’s Pub is a great space that periodically presents very interesting show, performers and artists from all over the world. The room has tree sections, as PAM ANN defined it very well: Economy (where the bar is located), Business Class (a huge sofa where you can seat to enjoy a drink during the show) and First Class (right next to the stage, where they serve a full a la carte menu). My comments ? the show was great, funny, interactive… of course that having an audience of almost 90% gay guys cheering for her makes a huge difference, but the food was overpriced and the menu that night was not in full.

PAM ANN has become an icon over the years, with live television commercials like the video above that she did for British Airways. For more information on PAM ANN please check her website @ www.pamann.com

Catch Me if you Can on Broadway

Catch Me if you Can on Broadway |  Broadway, New York |  Last night I was invited to see the preview of Catch me if you Can, the news musical opening in Broadway in only 4 days. Although there was a WHOLE show behind our seat, that I am not going to dish about now (but trust me was way funnier than the play itself). By the producers of Hair Spray and based on the DreamWorks Motion Picture. After this show, now I fully understand why Pan Am Airways went on bankruptcy. I would have to say that after an USD 18 glass of red wine at the Lounge of the Neil Simon Theater, the second part of the show was my absolute favorite. Norbert Leo Burtz – Agent Carl Hanratty, Aaron Tveit – Frank Abagnale Jr, Linda Hart – Carol Strong and Kerry Butler – Cheryl Ann stole the show with the best performances to my respect.

Frank W. Abagnale, one of the world’s leading authorities on secure documents, fraud and embezzlement. The story of his son, a teenager who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life. With nothing more than a boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. During almost 3 hours you will get lost into his own turbulent fantasies and delusions, with a end that, although very predictable very catching and entertaining. Priscilla Queen of the Desert or Queen of Broadway ?

Priscilla Queen of the Desert or Queen of Broadway ? |  New York City, Broadway |  Fellows there is a new show in town – Priscilla Queen of the Desert The Musical – and mark my words, will stay for long. So Spiderman stop learning how to fly, undust your pink wig and learn how to sing and dance, because there is brand new tough competition just around the corner. Long gone are the days were Drag Queens where a bad word, now they rein in the Big Apple across Broadway. La Cage aux Folles and now Priscilla Queen of the Desert.… No, my friends, despite they do look like ones, the are no Drag Queens in Mamma Mia. And for tenth time… Nathan Lane is not in drag any more, now he plays a man at The Adam’s Family, go figure, no kidding they are a very special family with him on that role.
What a fantastic show. What an amazing make-believe scenography recreating the original motion picture by Stephan Elliot and Allan Scott. The glitz and glam of New York city, with one of the best products to come out of Australia, of course after Muriel’s Wedding, Kylie Minogue and Hugh Jackman. OH For God sake, No, again.. Nicole Kidman is not a Drag Queen either, give it a rest man.
What a talented, great looking cast leaded by Will Swenson Tick (Mitzi), Tony Sheldon Bernadette, Nick Adams Adam (Felicia) and the DIVAS. Colorfull, elaborated, tight and revealing costumes, catchy rhythms and songs, enterntaining choreographies, will make you dance, laugh, sing and clap during 3 hours, leaving you craving for more and more. My favorite acts both performed by Adam (Felicia) were The Road to Nowhere with the leading scene of Felicia on the roof of the Bus with the long dress and the classic music, and the opening act where Felicia plays Material Girl by Madonna.
There is a bunch of new over talented Drag Queens in town and not even SpiderMan will be able to glam them out with his boring spiderwebs. Seen them all, Mamma Mia, La Cage aux Folles, The Adam’ss Family, Wicked, Billy Elliot and my recommendation to all of them, watch out to  the Australian sensation. The Palace Theatre was sold out with queens and only a few kings both on stage and in the crowd. If you want to spend your dollars on a worth seeing Broadway show, then there is no doubt that Priscilla is one of you best bets.
Reporting LIVE from the Big Apple, Carlos Melia…. now heading back home. Can someone help me get out of this hills pleaseeee. They are killing me damn it.  CM

Radio City Music Hall and ROBYN

Radio City Music Hall and ROBYN |  New York City | As if visiting one of the most important landmarks of New York City wasn’t enough, ROBYN was the lead performer of the night to make this experience even better. Locate on Avenue of the Americas in between 50th. and 51st. At Radio City More than 300 million people have come to the Music Hall to enjoy stage shows, movies, concerts and special events. There’s no place like it to see a show or stage a show. Everything about it is larger than life.
Radio City Music Hall is the largest indoor theatre in the world. Its marquee is a full city-block long. Its auditorium measures 160 feet from back to stage and the ceiling reaches a height of 84 feet. The walls and ceiling are formed by a series of sweeping arches that define a splendid and immense curving space. Choral staircases rise up the sides toward the back wall. Actors can enter there to bring live action right into the house. There are no columns to obstruct views. Three shallow mezzanines provide comfortable seating without looming over the rear Orchestra section below. The result is that every seat in Radio City Music Hall is a good seat.

ROBYN, Swedish pop sensation was the lead performer of the night. I have been dying to see her live since I heard about her on my last trip to Sweden and the Ice Hotel.  Robyn became known in the late nineties for her worldwide dance-pop hits “Show Me Love” and “Do You Know (What It Takes)” from her debut album Robyn Is Here (1997). She co-wrote the song “Du gör mig hel igen” (You Make Me Whole Again) for Melodifestivalen 1997. The popularity of her #1 hit single “With Every Heartbeat“, and subsequent album release Robyn (2005), brought her mainstream success worldwide. In January 2009 Robyn won a Swedish Grammis award for Best Live Act 2008.

Robyn released the first of a trilogy of albums to be released over the course of 2010 titled Body Talk Pt. 1, in June of that year, peaking at #1. It was her first album since Robyn. The album’s lead single “Dancing on My Own” was released a few weeks prior to the album’s release, and became a hit single worldwide, and brought her a 53rd Grammy Awards nomination for the category of Best Dance Recording.

If you ask me, my favorite ROBYN’s song, with which she closed her performance last night with and standing ovation by the crowd (half to the gay population of the United States and tourists, including me and other alternative crowds including straights, drag queens, androgens… etc ) is Konichiwa Bitches. Learn more about Robyn at http://www.robyn.com/

Opening act by new upcoming star Diamond Rings, who is making his way into the hall of fame of young weird and lovable electronic pop dance performers. I got the chance to meet him in person before the show and he is just adorable, with a huge EDGE. Courtesy of Modern Tonic here is a FREE Download for you to keep and share Diamond Rings FREE Download.
