Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain

Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain by www.carlosmeliablog.comSanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa  |  Paradise Valley, United States  |   Update from my last stay OCT 2013.!!!! if you dine at Elements, know that the kitchen closes at 9PM (yes does not make much sense but it is what it is) Elements is a FAB restaurant. You MUST ask for table #41. I think that one of the best views from the rooms is from Room # 229. Now carry on reading my previous post. Enjoy. !!!

The Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain along with the Four Seasons Scottsdale, where both my favorite stays during my week exploring Scottsdale and Phoenix in Arizona. I felt that both properties offer exactly what I envisioned my experience would be, away from the urban areas, surrounded by the iconic Arizona desert. Perched on Camelback Mountain in an exhilarating blend of serenity and vitality. One of the most coveted retreats in Paradise Valley, Sanctuary a AAA Four Diamond Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. With trend-setting architecture, copious modern luxuries, and culinary delights, our boutique resort will draw you back, time and time again.
Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain by www.carlosmeliablog.comSanctuary on Camelback Mountain enjoys a legendary history filled with Hollywood celebrities and international tennis stars.  The story begins in the early 1950s when the unique mountainside property was bought by a group of prominent investors including Hollywood stars John Ireland, Joanne Dru and Sydney Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin’s son.

I was hosted at one of their Spa Suites, one of the largest Scottsdale suites, offers 1200 sq. ft. of vibrant décor and contemporary amenities, including a lava rock fireplace and a wet bar in the spacious living area. These Scottsdale suites feature an airy patio that surrounds the living room and bedroom. Large walk-in closets and a vessel sink enhance the spacious bathrooms, which include a separate shower and vanity, two sinks, and an outdoor soaking tub. My suite was the Topaz Suite, since all are named after a gemstone.
Elements Restaurant by www.carlosmeliablog.comOne of the highlights of my stay at the Sanctuary, was dinner at Elements overlooking the sunset over Paradise Valley. You can read my post here. But the breakfast the following morning was as equally spectacular or even more beautiful, this time overlooking the dawn.
Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain by www.carlosmeliablog.comI am sure you will agree looking at the photos I did while enjoying a healthy breakfast. Either if you are staying at the Sanctuary or not, Elements by Food Network celebrity and Executive Chef Beau MacMillan is a must.
Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain by www.carlosmeliablog.comOne of my favorites was to spend the afternoon laying at their infinity-edge pool overlooking Camelback Mountain, the palm trees and breathtaking views over Paradise Valley. FYI their pool is open 24 hours, so feel free to jump at any time.
Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain by www.carlosmeliablog.comUnfortunately timing did not allow me to experience their Spa, which features a menu of Asian–inspired services in twelve indoor & outdoor treatment rooms, so I wont be commenting on that. But I did have time to enjoy their state-of-the-art fitness facilities, including Pilates, meditation, Yoga, fitness & nutrition consultations by certified instructors and Personal Trainers. Arizona is very popular among professional athletes for its year round fantastic weather, and the Sanctuary is one of the favorite spots for those coming out of state. If you enjoy swimming, there is a special program at their outdoors lap pool taught by Olympic gold medalist Misty Hyman. Recognized as the Paradise Valley Racquet Club throughout the 1950’s and renamed John Gardiner’s Tennis Ranch in 1965, our property continues a legacy of championship courts and professional coaches.
Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain by www.carlosmeliablog.comThe hotel was undergoing some renovations and expansions during my visit, a multi-million dollar renovation that will yield an exciting new experience this Fall.

Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain by www.carlosmeliablog.comSituated 8 miles north of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and 5 minutes from downtown Scottsdale. Sanctuary is conveniently located for Arizona travel, while still offering a serene hideaway to guests. In terms of location, Sanctuary has a true advantage over the Four Seasons Scottsdale, for those in Arizona for business, but still looking to unwind after office. Literary and Oasis in the desert. Le Ferme Saint Simeon in Honfleur

Le Ferme Saint Simeon inHonfleur  |  Honfleur, France  |  During my visit to Deauville a few month ago, I have the great experience to stay at this lovely hotel, by Relais & Chateaux. A hotel full of charm and lots of history. I was hosted at one of their Executive Rooms, with stunning views overlooking both the garden and the waters of Normandy at the Seine estuary. Approximately a beautiful 20 minutes drive from Deauville to Honfleur along the waterline.

Located in the main house, combining traditional charm with modern comfort. 34 rooms and luxurious suites. A large room exclusive, so attic “Cathedral”, which lets the light that fascinated the impressionist painters. Bright and spacious, it has a sitting area with a bathroom with a bath and separate shower, private toilet, minibar, flat screen television with DVD player and tuner and a docking station iPod/iPhone. Free WiFi access.
In the 19th century, the ever-changing landscapes of the Seine estuary inspired the painters. It is the land of constant moving skies and of a fascinating light. Le Ferme Saint-Simeon basks in this atmosphere of indefinable charm.
Some of my favorite spaces at the hotel are the Restaurant and the Library. Such a cozy, warm and sophisticated ambiance. Such a pleasure to seat next to the fireplace while enjoying a great cocktail or a cup of tea. Breakfasts are a whole experience on itself.
The Spa is one of the main reasons why special guests from all over the world flock to this exclusive retreat. Located at the attached building to the main house.
Do you recognize this house ? Well maybe it will bring you memories of one of the famous pieces by one of the icons of impressionism, Claude Monet.

One of the special hotels I experienced during 2012, and to be honest I look forward to return once again, relax and enjoy the tranquility and charm signature by Relais & Chateux and Le Ferme Saint-Simeon. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Le Negresco Hotel unexpected Palace

Le Negresco Hotel unexpected Palace  |  Nice, France  |  If we talk about traditional hotels that exude luxury and charm, well I would risk to say the Le Negresco Hotel in French Riviera is on the top of my list. The minute you walk by the door and enter the lobby of the hotel, a fairy tale of sophistication unfolds. Le Negresco first opened its doors on January 8th, 1913. The hotel, designed by Henri Negrescu, immediately attracted a brilliant international clientele, Kings of the old and the new world. Jeanne Augier is the guardian of this myth. Owner of the Palace since 1957, this great lady – with deeply-rooted convictions – has devoted her life to the preservation and the development of this unique heritage.  Continue reading Le Negresco Hotel unexpected Palace

Belmond Hotel Monasterio

Belmond Hotel Monasterio  |  Cusco, Peru |  Cusco’s most traditional luxury flagship hotel, located right beside the lively central square. A former monastery and national monument dating from 1592. This delightful Belmond hotel combines its centuries-old charm and ambience with luxury hotel service, inspired restaurants and boutique rooms and suites. This was my first stop and overnight during my visit to Cusco and Sacred Valley, such a magical destination, only matched by the beauty, peace and sophistication of this property with an unique blend of Spanish and Inca heritage. Follow my Instagram Peru Photo Gallery for more tips, photos and videos. Belmond Palacio Nazarenas

Belmond Palacio Nazarenas  | CuscoPeru |  Set in a tranquil plaza behind Cusco’s main square, this former palace and convent is emerging from years of restoration to become one of the city’s most exclusive hotels. The newest global Belmond property in the world and their fifth hotel in Peru (which BTW I have tried them all). In search for all of this and more, I came over and spent my last fabulous night in Cusco, before heading back to New York, after a week lo luxury, unique experience and sophistication in Peru made by Belmond Hotels and Trains. Follow my Instagram Peru Photo Gallery for more tips, photos and videos. NapCabs at Munich International Airport

NapCabs at Munich International Airport  |  Munich, Germany |  One of the best travel ideas I have seen in years, which I hope will extend globally. How about your own room/cabin right next to your flight boarding gate. Comfort and privacy for passengers inside airport terminals Making the stay at the airport more pleasant an comfortable is the idea behind NapCabs. Rent by the hour (EUR 10) and pay as you go, for a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 12.

NapCabs offer the perfect solution for passengers and airports, to enter the next level of comfort inside airport terminals. Self service, pay as you go, and for as many hours you want solution. Unfortunately I did not have time to try them myself, since I was just connecting flights with Lufthansa from Moscow to Paris, but next time I will, since I hope this brilliant idea will replicate around the world.
I mean most airports charge and average of EUR 5 per hour for the WiFi connection, therefore, you might as well pay the extra EUR 5 and have a pleasant time at the airport while in transit. Enjoy Ethernet Internet connection, use your own desk, and take a nice flat rest while you wait for your connection. For more information www.napcabs.net. So civilized of course had to be in Germany and at the Lufthansa Terminal. !!! CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends
