Recreate the Gilded Age in the Playground of Gatsby
Recreate the Gilded Age in the Playground of Gatsby | Newport, Rhode Island | Ocean-side mansions surround the charming coastal city of Newport, which was once a playground for the rich and famous of the Gilded Age. Built in 1909 by Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt of the illustrious family of the same name – prominent figures in the 1920s and [...]
Mainport Hotel sets course for Rotterdam
With an envy-inducing location on the inner harbor, Rotterdam is about to get a new landmark: Mainport, Design Hotels™’ first member hotel in Europe’s largest port city. Wide glass windows wrap around the 215-room waterfront building shaped by MAS Architectuur allowing guests to see and feel the vibrancy of the harbor and see the famous cable-stayed Erasmus Bridge. Owner Karin Geurts enlisted the help of designer Feran Thomassen to create five-star interiors that make subtle nods to far-flung places, without forgetting that Rotterdam is the hotel’s ‘main’ port.
Le Ferme Saint Simeon in Honfleur
During my visit to Deauville a few month ago, I have the great experience to stay at this lovely hotel, by Relais & Chateaux. A hotel full of charm and lots of history. I was hosted at one of their Executive Rooms, with stunning views overlooking both the garden and the waters of Normandy at the Seine estuary. Approximately a beautiful 20 minutes drive from Deauville to Honfleur along the waterline.
Le Negresco Hotel unexpected Palace
If we talk about traditional hotels that exude luxury and charm, well I would risk to say the Le Negresco Hotel in French Riviera is on the top of my list. Le Negresco first opened its doors on January 8th, 1913. The hotel, designed by Henri Negrescu, immediately attracted a brilliant international clientele, Kings of the old and the new world. Jeanne Augier is the guardian of this myth. Owner of the Palace since 1957, this great lady – with deeply-rooted convictions – has devoted her life to the preservation and the development of this unique heritage.
Hotel Monasterio by Orient-Express
Cusco’s most traditional luxury flagship hotel, located right beside the lively central square. A former monastery and national monument dating from 1592. This delightful Orient-Expresshotel combines its centuries-old charm and ambience with luxury hotel service, inspired restaurants and boutique rooms and suites. This was my first stop and overnight during my visit to Cusco and Sacred Valley, such a magical destination, only matched by the beauty, peace and sophistication of this property with an unique blend of Spanish and Inca heritage.
Palacio Nazarenas by Orient-Express
Set in a tranquil plaza behind Cusco’s main square, this former palace and convent is emerging from years of restoration to become one of the city’s most exclusive hotels. The newest global Orient-Express property in the world and their fifth hotel in Peru (which BTW I have tried them all). In search for all of this and more, I came over and spent my last fabulous night in Cusco, before heading back to New York, after a week lo luxury, unique haute experiences and sophistication in Peru made by Orient-Express Hotels and Trains.
Private Cellar at Club 21 by Orient-Express
I am lucky enough to have enjoy great dinner, cocktails and evenings at Club 21 in New York City. Either having a wonderful meal at the main room, of a glass of champagne next to the fire place during cold winters over lovely conversations. But today, for the first time, following the speakeasy legendary Prohibition-era, I join a very private group of New York leading travel agents, at the wine cellar.
