48 Hours in London curating new hotels and restaurants | London, England | My journey aboard the VSOE Venice Simplon Orient-Express luxury train, came to an end, and it was time to enjoy London for 48 hours, before heading home. I know London, quite well, been there many times, and even lived in this lovely city for a while. So when I visit London, I spend my time mostly seeing friends, and exploring new hotels, restaurants and tourist highlights and attractions, to later curate the best options to offer my clients, based on my own personal experiences. Hotel site-inspections in London | London, UK | During my last visit to London, over New Year’s Eve, I took a full day to review and visit a few hotels, what in our industry call Site-Inspections. I came to visit the following: The new Shangri-La Hotel, at London’s new iconic landmark The Shard. Followed by lovely and cozy The Connaught Hotel by the Maybourne Hotel Group in Mayfair. The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, where I also enjoyed a lovely Fashion-Themed Afternoon Tea “Pret a Portea”. And finished my day at the trendy and happening EDITION Hotel London, with a few drinks at their original and intimate Punch Room. See my day in photos below. 34 Restaurant Park Lane London | London, UK | Just woke up from a long fun night out in London, where do we go, where do we go…. that it is not far from our new hotel, the Grosvenor House Hotel Park Lane, and the telephone rings, our friend John on the other side with all plans made, literally saved by the bell. Jump on the taxi on a rush of time and hunger, ha ha ha and two embarrassing and 4 pounds later, we arrive to 34 Restaurant. Local with touches, surprisingly, of Argentinean touches.
Head Chef, Paul Brown has developed an eclectic menu, using the grill not only for beef, but also for seasonal game, fish and shellfish. Located just off Grosvenor Square (entrance on South Audley Street) in the heart of Mayfair. Burned orange banquettes, oak parquet and a colourfulcontemporary art collection give the room a warm and inviting look, highlighted by the bespoke charcoal grill in the open kitchen. The grill, also known as a parrilla and fed by natural fuels, was custom-made and imported from Argentina.
My choices were: Fillet of Seat Trout with grilled asparagus, broad bean, & sorrel relish (£ 21). But my dessert was a BOMB, Lemon meringue bombe (£ 10). Lovely option John, right on spot and location. Should we walk back to our hotel ? just kidding. Find out more at www.34-restaurant.co.uk. Bon Appetit.!! CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

The Wolseley my favorite lunch in London | London, UK | One of restaurants in my MUST DO & SEE list, every single time I come to London, is The Wolseley Cafe and Restaurant. No other restaurant catches my interest for a fabulous sophisticated lunch like The Wolseley. The Wolseley is a café-restaurant in the grand European tradition located in St James’ on London’s most famous of boulevards, Piccadilly.
Trust me, if you are in for a chic gourmet lunch experience in London, The Wolseley will be your perfect call, that if you manage to move your influences to get a table, specially on a sunny Saturday in London. Thanks to our local friend John, we did. A must try in the menu are the oysters, Carlingford Lough Rocks or Gillardeau Speciale. And of course, even at lunch, how can I miss my classic filthy Vodka Martini.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner… all day long, it is an experience. Also you can enjoy your own private dinning. Beautifully designed to complement the restaurant below, the Private Dining Room seats up to 14 guests and is available to book for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Discreetly hidden away from view, with its own private staircase, it is nonetheless very much part of the restaurant. Filled with light from four sides, it is bright and cheerful during the day, and seductively lit at night by the lights from the restaurant and Piccadilly outside. In 1921, Wolseley Motors Limited commissioned the architect, William Curtis Green, to design a prestigious car showroom in London’s West End. He drew on Venetian and Florentine influences, as well as incorporating the Eastern exotic touches that were in fashion at the time. The grand, atmospheric interior with its towering pillars, arches and stairways was testament to the great ambitions of The Wolseley Car Company. The cars were displayed on the marble floor and cost between £225 – £1,300. Unfortunately, the cars did not sell well enough and by 1926 the Company was bankrupt.
Chris Corbin and Jeremy King secured the site in July 2003 and its restoration and renovation was overseen by David Collins Architects. The Wolseley opened in November 2003. Located at St James’ on London’s most famous of boulevards, Piccadilly, right across the iconic Ritz Hotel and steps away from Green Park. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Borough Food Market | London, UK | For the past two weeks, I have been searching the city to find the best food markets, you know one of those places, now very popular worldwide, where in an semi open space, local farmers and small producers present their products, most of the time being fully organic and some times very unique in either concept, presentation or flavor. A few failed attempts, getting lost into piles of smelly vintage clothes markets with very average food, but as for today I can say that at least I have found one, the Borough Food Market in London. Wright Brothers Oyster & Porter House | London, UK | So today I dedicated my afternoon to discover and wonder around a new area to me in London, the London Bridge and Borough Market. And by the local recommendation of a friend, I came to try the brilliant Wright Brothers Oyster & Porter House. The small but perfectly formed dining room is made up of a long oyster bar and high tables. It is relaxed, informal and full of life. If you a fan of seafood and enjoy the informality of a traditional food market, give try to the Wright Brothers. Continue reading Wright Brothers Oyster & Porter House
