St Pancras by Renaissance London

St Pancras by Renaissance London  | London, UK  |  So last weekend we took off on a four nights trip to London, for a fun weekend and also to see Beyonce’s Concert at The O2 Arena. So off we went and we stayed for the first two nights at the iconic recently renovated St Pancras by Renaissance hotel, which happens to be in King’s Cross attached to St Pancras Station.
By Sir George Gilbert Scott, this spectacular building, former Midland Grand, masterpiece of the Gothic Revival, today the St Pancras marks and epic revival as one of the most significant examples of restoration and regeneration yet seen in Britain. Used as offices for 50 years, it eventually fell into disrepair and faced demolition until de decision to make St Pancras the London terminal for the Eurostar, which opened the way for its revival and return to full glory.
The hotel reopened by the management of Renaissance (Marriott Group) in 2011. Its spectacular interiors remarkably restored as a £ 200 million project which relaunched the building as a London’s distictive luxury hotel, with modern services and facilities slotted into the historic fabric, and unique loft apartments created on its upper floors.

We were hosted at a beautiful Chamber Club Rooms, located over the Chambers building at the exclusive club section. Butler Service, Private Club access & a spa offering 6 treatment rooms, gym & pool. I think the best way to define our experience, being fair to the opulence of the former Midland Grand, is 5 stars hotel experience at a luxury historic landmark. The spa also offers a Victorian tiled pool with spa, offering a unique experience and sanctuary of tranquility in the heart of this 5 five star hotel. The main feature of our suite was the window views to the interiors of St Pancras Train tracks, which I must say concerned me upon Check IN, due to sound proofing, but was not an issue at all during our entire stay. Each one of these Chamber Club Rooms (32-square-meter rooms) was a true original, restored with loving attention to detail. Lavish proportions, high ceilings, ornate moldings and expansive windows that exude historic Victorian charm.
As you walk through the corridors to you room, you can still hear the whispers of the Victorian ladies and gentlemen, telling stories of this iconic landmark, The Midland Grand Hotel, among the first luxury hotels of its kind in England and in Europe.
Once you reach the main stairs, your heart stops. The architecture, the decoration, the mixture of classical and contemporary – the chances are it is like no other hotel. The story of how it came into existence is just as extraordinary. It is the tale of a true renaissance; of a national treasure that was almost reduced to rubble but that is today, once again, the pride of London. Read more
Several dinning options, other of course than our private Club access. The Booking Office Bar & Restaurant, a Neo-Gothic space, striking setting for a business breakfast, snack or classic English dining from an all day menu. The Gilbert Scott is an elegant British brasserie and bar, run by Marcus Wareing’s team.
The lobby area itself turns into a social hub, Enjoy a range of hot & cold drinks, traditional afternoon tea and light snacks, the old taxi rank to St. Pancras station now forms London’s most spectacular Hamson Lounge.
Staying at St Pancras was indeed quite a remarkable experience, a treat to the eye, which did not allow me to put my camera down for a second, day or night.
Perhaps not the best location for those visiting London for the first time, which was not our case. Very easy access from King’s Cross Tube Station and connection with the Heathrow Express arriving/departing to/from Paddington Station.
London has many examples of luxury hotels, but as expressed before, St Pancras by Renaissance is without any doubt a 5 stars hotel experience at a luxury historic landmark that I would recommend to anyone capable to appreciate its heritage and identity. I have only experienced this feeling before, during our stay at the Grand Europe Hotel in St Petersburg, Russia. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

The Wolseley my favorite lunch in London

The Wolseley my favorite lunch in London  |  London, UK  |  One of restaurants in my MUST DO & SEE list, every single time I come to London, is The Wolseley Cafe and Restaurant. No other restaurant catches my interest for a fabulous sophisticated lunch like The Wolseley. The Wolseley is a café-restaurant in the grand European tradition located in St James’ on London’s most famous of boulevards, Piccadilly.
Trust me, if you are in for a chic gourmet lunch experience in London, The Wolseley will be your perfect call, that if you manage to move your influences to get a table, specially on a sunny Saturday in London. Thanks to our local friend John, we did. A must try in the menu are the oysters, Carlingford Lough Rocks or Gillardeau Speciale. And of course, even at lunch, how can I miss my classic filthy Vodka Martini.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner… all day long, it is an experience. Also you can enjoy your own private dinning. Beautifully designed to complement the restaurant below, the Private Dining Room seats up to 14 guests and is available to book for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Discreetly hidden away from view, with its own private staircase, it is nonetheless very much part of the restaurant.  Filled with light from four sides, it is bright and cheerful during the day, and seductively lit at night by the lights from the restaurant and Piccadilly outside. In 1921, Wolseley Motors Limited commissioned the architect, William Curtis Green, to design a prestigious car showroom in London’s West End. He drew on Venetian and Florentine influences, as well as incorporating the Eastern exotic touches that were in fashion at the time. The grand, atmospheric interior with its towering pillars, arches and stairways was testament to the great ambitions of The Wolseley Car Company. The cars were displayed on the marble floor and cost between £225 – £1,300. Unfortunately, the cars did not sell well enough and by 1926 the Company was bankrupt.
Chris Corbin and Jeremy King secured the site in July 2003 and its restoration and renovation was overseen by David Collins Architects. The Wolseley opened in November 2003. Located at St James’ on London’s most famous of boulevards, Piccadilly, right across the iconic Ritz Hotel and steps away from Green Park. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Present at Mrs Carter Beyonce’s Concert London

We said present at Beyonce’s Concert London  |  London, UK  |  One of the highlights of our recent flash visit to London last weekend, was to come to see Beyonce‘s Concert at The O2 Arena. One of the first main shows of her new world tour ” Mrs Carter Show “. The most exciting moment of the night to me, was when Beyonce flew over The O2 Arena from the main stage to the center of the crowd on a very Pepsi moment flashing reds, whites and her dressed on a blue sequined bodysuit.

The second most exciting moment was, once the show was finished, thanks to Rubin Singer, to be escorted backstage with all our friends to the VIP Room, where they got to have a few minutes up-close and personal with Beyonce. The perfect sequel to Super Bowl Performance 2013It was my first time ever at The O2 Arena, and I was very much impressed . The arena was fully sold out. Of course being London, the O2 is completely covered and indoors.

GPS Carlos Melia LONDON is calling

GPS Carlos Melia LONDON is calling  |  London, UK  |  London is calling me, and I am coming. Being on the TOP 5 of my favorite cities in the world, I never say no to my beloved London, specially when being hosted at the Chambers by the recently restored iconic St Pancras Hotel by Renaissance. London’s finest suites are in the original Chambers building with Butler Service, Private Club access & a spa offering 6 treatment rooms, gym & pool. Second stay will be at the Grosvenor House, in Park Lane. To be fully honest, ha ha ha I have never in my life been so happy and excited to stay at a Marriott property before. I see that Marriott is bringing sexy back with style and sophistication, with some of their premium signature brands, which I am sure most of you, mortal tourists, no idea were under their umbrella, like Bulgari, EDITION, The Ritz-Carlton and of course JW Marriott. One last reason and excuse for our trip to London, is Beyonce’s Concert at the O2 Arena, which we – Rubin and I, will be assisting with a nice entourage of friends both from New York and London. So you better stay tuned, because London is Calling and I am answering. See you in London Darlings !!!! CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

The Stafford Hotel in London by Kempinski Hotels

The Stafford Hotel in London by Kempinski Hotels  |  London, UK  |  On my last stay in London, a few weeks ago, I was looking to experience the city in a very formal and classic style, I wanted to have a true British accommodation experience. I must admit it, as much as I love modern, high tech hotels, I also truly enjoy bespoke, old school style, deco and service. When I first came in contact with The Stafford Hotel, my first thought was, wait a minute, this hotel cannot be located in London, judging by the first photo it pops up into their site, looking so serene, with the look of a little town. But it was indeed, and more over, at one of the premium locations in London, in the heart of St James next to the Buckingham Palace, steps away from Green Park and Piccadilly. Eccleston Square Hotel London urban cocoon cutting-edge technology

Eccleston Square Hotel London urban cocoon cutting-edge technology  |  London, UK  |  Most of the times prejudice plays bad influences on our thought, and we tend to underestimate things based on size, first impressions and location. This is what happened with me an the lovely Eccleston Square Hotel in London. From the minute I saw it from the distance, I saw a charming boutique hotel, located across a the quiet Eccleston Square. As I walk thought the door, I saw the modern lavish designed lobby and the intimate restaurant Bistrot on the Square. So I said to myself, OK I will have a safe comfortable stay, in a traditional sophisticated English Boutique hotel, and do not get me wrong, I was more than fine and happy with that, but I am always looking for more for an edge. World Pride 2012 London in images and videos

World Pride 2012 London in images and videos  |  London, England  |  Last Saturday, we celebrated the World Gay Pride 2012  in London. We marched all along the city to Trafalgar Square, were the main stage was located. There are no official numbers yet of how many participated, but I must say that the procession (aka. Parade) the way the local authorities decided to call the march, was very successful, despite of all the organization, budget, permits problems that have been public for the last few weeks, and for which many were predicting this World Pride to be World Shame Pride.
