ICEHotel Sweden my own Arctic experience | Jukkasjärvi, Sweden | Have you ever dreamt on one of those warm nights of summer, to be sleeping on top of a huge bar of ICE.? Well then, how about spending two night at a hotel, all made out of ICE.? How does that sound…. freezing right? Indeed. That was my experience last December 2010 at the ICEHotel in Sweden. One of the trips I will never, ever forget. We were there just the week before of the season opening, so we got access to the whole hotel both front and back. What is ICEHOTEL? A hotel built of ice and snow, would be the most common response. The first and the largest in the world, someone might add. But we they more thrilling stories to tell.

Dog Sledding in the Arctic | Kiruna, Sweden | Who would think that right after flying from New York to Stockholm and connection to Kiruna in the Arctic, we will be greeted by over 2 dozens of Snow Dogs to transfer us to the ICEHOTEL. What an amazing and unexpected experience I will not forget for the rest of my life. The staff of the ICEHOTEL gave us are heavy Arctic gear and set us in a journey of approximately 2 hours, including a brief technical stop to taste local delicatessens and drinks, to an amazing white adventure.

Right after breakfast and the only few hours of daylight you get here in Jukkasjaroi ( Sweden ) during the winter, out tour guide tells us… ” I have a big surprise for all of you…” So we say HEYYYYY what more Lingonberries, or Dog Sledge or….. but certainly we could not have guessed what was coming.

Lingonberries my favorite drink in Sweden

Lingonberries my favorite drink in Sweden (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) • are to Scandinavians what blackberries are to Americans. A warm Welcoming drink that everyone in Sweden seems to love and I am becoming addictive to. You may drink it Cold or Warm, but it is the best beverage to get your temperature back to the normal levels.

I survived my first night at the ICEHotel

I survived my first night at the ICEHotel • OMG what an amazing experience that I recommend to everyone honestly. The peace, the silence the cold… You might think that it would be a very uncomfortable way to spend the night, but completely on the contrary the beds are really comfortable, and the sleeping bags keep you warm at the exact temperature. This morning the walk me up at 07.30AM with LINGON Berry ( the local drink, which tastes like cranberry and it is drank hot ). I looked at the hostess and rolled over into my bed thinking… lady go away or I will come with a torch and melt your hotel. I certainly could have used an extra two more hours of sleep. But the day in packed with activities. We are off, after a great breakfast, to do Snowmobiles to the old Church, the Ice Sculpting class and most important the reason why we are all here… the wedding.
