GPS Carlos Melia two AMAZING weeks in Thailand

GPS Carlos Melia two AMAZING weeks in Thailand  |  And we are back in New York, after spending two AMAZING weeks in Thailand, planning and producing Rubin Singer‘s Fashion Shows in Bangkok and Koh Samui. Always a treat to spend time in Thailand, a country I carry close to my heart and always draws a BIG smile in my face. So many old and new friends there, could not be happier. On this trip, my fifth time in Thailand, we visited and spent time in Bangkok, Golden Triangle and Koh Samui. OMG so many photos and videos to share, that will take me forever, therefore I decided to do this summary of our time there. You can read more on the individual posts I have been doing pre/post and will do after our stay at the category Thailand. (photo above at the Four Seasons Koh Samui, where we were hosted for a full relaxing day having spa treatments and lunch at the beach)  Continue reading GPS Carlos Melia two AMAZING weeks in Thailand

Elephant Polo is my new thing

Elephant Polo is my new thing  | Golden TriangleThailand |  You might say, Carlos is Argentinean, therefore Polo carries on his veins… but how about going a bit further, bigger and taller… how about Elephant Polo. It sounds quite eccentric right. Thanks to the Four Seasons Tented Camps Golden Triangle in the northern region of Thailand, I can say this this my new thing. Those of you following my blog regularly, know my weakness and devotion for Elephants, so I was quite intrigued and happy when this activity was proposed to me on my last visit to the camp.  Continue reading Elephant Polo is my new thing

Living with the elephants in Thailand

Living with the elephants in Thailand  | Golden TriangleThailand |  A year passed by, and I had the need to see my girl back again. Yes you are reading right… I LOVE my girl. Tong Kam is the elephant I try to visit at least once a year, in the north of Thailand, at the Golden Triangle,. Only one hour flight from Bangkok, you will arrive to Chiang Rai. From there the Four Seasons Tented Camps will transfer you in full style and comfort, to the Golden Triangle by a private transfer, and from there a brief long tail sail to the camp.  Continue reading Living with the elephants in Thailand

Golden Triangle Asian Elephants Foundation

Interview Golden Triangle Asian Elephants Foundation  | Golden TriangleThailand |  Dear followers, yes I am alive and back. Been away for a few well deserved days, at the Golden Triangle in the north of Thailand – Lanna District – at the fabulous Four Seasons Tented Camps. You know me, when I camp I do it in style. The Golden Triangle is located in the border between Laos, Myanmar and Thailand, and for the last few years, thanks to Four Seasons and two other main foundations, has served as the refugee and paradise, for elephants rescued from the streets of Bangkok. Both Mahouts and elephants were given a second chance, and this is one of the main areas in Thailand, to come and experience living up close with the elephants. See my brief interview with John Roberts – Director of Elephants for Golden Triangle Asian Elephants Foundation. Also visit and give your support to Think Elephants International. Congratulations and my full support in all the great work they are doing. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com

Thong Kham and Carlos Melia reunited again

Thong Kham and Carlos Melia reunited again  | Golden TriangleThailand  |  This is now a true love story. After 4 month of being apart Thong Kham and Carlos Melia reunited once again at the Four Seasons Tented Camp at Golden Triangle in the border between Thailand, Myanmar and Lao. One look at the other, she put her trunk over my head and sniffed me around, after that we looked each other in the eye and we instantly bonded again. Memory of elephant right. This was my morning in love with Thong Kham. Continue reading Thong Kham and Carlos Melia reunited again

Four Season Tented Camp Thailand

Four Season Tented Camp Thailand  |Golden Triangle, Thailand |  If there was a hotel I visited in 2011, that went above and beyond any expectations, was the Four Seasons Tented Camp at Golden Triangle in the northern region of Thailand, right on the border with Lao and Burma. How about combining the best of Four Seasons signature luxury, style and customer service, with the exuberant beauty of the bamboo jungles of Chiang Rai province in the outdoors, surrounded by a local Elephants camp, Burmese chanting monks in the mornings and serene waters of the Mekong River. How would I define and summarize this experience, simply like this… train to become a Mahout, live with the elephants in full luxury, enjoy all-inclusive adventures, spoil yourself at their full service outdoor spa and dine like a king or queen. Social Media VIP Status by Bangkok Airways

Social Media VIP Status by Bangkok Airways  |  Thailand  |  This morning from my hotel in Phuket, while packing, I tweeted …”04AM in the morning AWAKE packing. On my way to the airport to take my @bangkok_airways flight from #Phuket to #Krabi. GMorning #Thailand…”, as I normally do, to keep everyone up-to-date of my whereabouts and then headed off to Phuket International Airport. Innocently and unaware of the power of Social Media and the excellent CRM – Customer Relationship Management, that both airlines and hotels master in Asia. I was fully stunned by what happened next. Sail the Mae Khong River to the Golden Triangle

Sail the Mae Khong River to the Golden Triangle  |  Golden Triangle, Thailand  |  One of the tours you should consider when in the areas of Golden Triangle, Chiang Saen or Chiang Rai, is the sailing along the Ruak River to the intersection with the Mae Khong River to find the central point denominated Golden Triangle. So board your long tail boat, sail across by bamboo fields, small fishing villages and decide where would you like to spend the rest of your day. The options are Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) or Laos. Hall of Opium at Golden Triangle

Hall of Opium at Golden Triangle  Golden TriangleThailand |  One of the many attractions of the Golden Triangle area, in the northern region of Thailand, is without a doubt the Hall of Opium, created in 1988 by Princess Mother on her desire to educate people on the background of opium in the Golden Triangle and elsewhere in the world. The Golden Triangle, infamous worldwide for its poppy fields, drug smugglers, and opium warlords. Throughout the three decades, the Golden Triangle supplied most of the world’s heroin. Even today, Myanmar and less so the Laos PDR produce significant amounts of opium. The Hall of Opium was created to help reduce demand through education. Giraffe Women of Long Neck Karen

Giraffe Women of Long Neck Karen  |  Hill Tribe Villlages, Thailand  |  I have always wanted to see them in person, and of course Thailand does not disappoint me at all, there they are. Original from East Burma (Myanmar), this group of women have moved to Thailand to an area called Hilltribe Village, right in between the Golden Triangle and Chiang Rai. I was truly surprised and captivated by their beauty, femininity, their voices and I must say the fact that yet today in 2011 the carry on with their traditions.
