A night out in Bangkok from Luxury to Underground | Bangkok, Thailand | A night in Bangkok, can begin and end in so many ways…. I am sure you all have heard the stories coming from deep in the Sois. But I have been there and done that, and what I do these days, is to repeat those I have enjoyed the most over the years, and open to discover new ones by the hand of my dear local friends. Khlong touring in Bangkok along the Chao Phraya and beyond | Bangkok, Thailand | On a very hot and humid day, it was quite lovely to go on for a long sail onboard a long-tailed speedboat, along the Chao Phraya River and later penetrate the life along the khlongs of Bangkok, enjoy the breeze and every so often a cold splash of water. Our tour began right at our host hotel, the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, and from there we went on for approximately 3 hours. This is one of my many visits to Bangkok, but indeed the first time doing the tour of the khlongs, which gives of a totally different perspective of life in Bangkok in the banks of the river and its canals. A matured comeback to Mandarin Oriental Bangkok | Bangkok, Thailand | My first stay at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, or iconically known as Oriental Bangkok, was over 4 years ago. At that time I was a different person, looking for different type of experiences, as it has happened organically through out all my personal and professional life. At that time, perhaps, ranked low as my favorite experiences in Bangkok, but after my recent stay, at my 41 years of age, I have to say it was simply PERFECTION. After countless times being in Bangkok, I have grown a deep love for the Chao Phraya River, and how it defines the nature of this destination, and to stay at a hotel at the streams of this charismatic feature, was something I would have never looked for before, and today I truly appreciate. So I guess we can appropriately say, that Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, it has taken some time, but it has grown in me, to be come I would say, my top choice when visiting Bangkok. The Siam Hotel a different Bangkok | Bangkok, Thailand | One of the many jewels of our last visit to Bangkok, was without a doubt our two nights stay at the picture perfect The Siam Hotel. A hotel which holds a very special feeling to me, having seen it evolve from day one till final completion and full operation, and know many of the people involved in the project. But still I went through our stay with a very critic and avid eye, true to my commitment to all of you my followers. The first question I think raises when you even think to stay at this property, is WHY should I stay at a hotel located so far from the traditional attractions and happening of Bangkok. And to my surprise this exact question is the one the management use as their strength, The Siam brings to you a different Bangkok. Serene, lush in natural beauty, yet quite simple are the nouns to describe this hotel. Continue reading The Siam Hotel a different Bangkok
HANSAR Bangkok | Bangkok, Thailand | During our last visit to Thailand, only a few weeks ago, we have the chance to experience and enjoy our lovely Vertigo Suite at the HANSAR Bangkok. I would describe it in a few words as Sweden meets Japan in the heart of one of Bangkok premium locations. Suites are steeped in modern comfort and amenities, contemporary yet timeless in style and adorned in Jim Thompson silk. HANSAR in sanskrit translates as Happiness and Joy, taking its inspiration from Thai culture and from the lively and generous spirit of the Thai people. Continue reading HANSAR Bangkok

Hotel Check IN W Bangkok | Bangkok, Thailand | Set in the pulsating heart of Bangkok, surrounded by spicy street markets, vibrant nightlife, and top shops and restaurants. Last night we Checked IN at the stunning sexy and chic W Bangkok. I was not expecting much to be honest, since the hotel just opened four month ago, but I must say the this property has just jumped to my TOP 05 favorite properties in Bangkok. W Bangkok radiates with electric energy. It is sultry inspiring debauchery on its very own Thai style. We are being hosted at the W version of the Presidential Suite, which looks taken out of a premium Gucci store. We just love the style, design, and panoramic views of Bangkok. FACEBOOK tale in Koh Samui Thailand | Koh Samui, Thailand | The gay world is small and certainly FACEBOOK has made it even smaller. So here is a funny FACEBOOK story. Both Rubin and I were hanging at our villa at the W Retreat Koh Samui, when I get a message from friends in LAX saying …” We are having Pad Thai at the restaurant..”. My first instinct was, guys we are at the W Koh Samui in Thailand, not in West Hollywood. They replied WE TOO.!!! We saw your photos from Rubin’s Fashion Show and realized we were all at the same resort.!!! What are the odds right. In the end we spent a lovely afternoon at the beach and at our pool drinking sake with Auris, Robbie, Tony and Thomas. Thank you Facebook.!! CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends

Six Senses Koh Samui | Koh Samui, Thailand | Yesterday we moved to the Six Senses property, set on a gently sloping headland at the northern tip of Samui Island. Located just six kilometres from Samui Airport, the 20-acre, or around 9-hectare estate is a 45-minute flight south of the Thai capital, Bangkok. The resort is made up of just 66 private villas, many with personal pools, which are landscaped within natural vegetation, and with glorious, sweeping panoramas out to the Gulf of Thailand and the surrounding islands.
Six Senses Samui has always been at the forefront of sustainability, and was Green Globe 21 benchmarked in 20 December 2006. Specifically, they achieved best practice results in six indicators: water saving, waste recycling, community commitment, community contributions, paper products and pesticide products.
We checked IN at an Ocean View Pool Villa, located throughout the resort and offer splendid views to the Gulf of Thailand from the bedroom located on the upper level, and also from the lower level on which the private pool is located. There is a sitting area and dining setting for intimate meals either inside the villa or on the pool terrace. Guests enjoy a spacious bathroom with oversize bathtub, double vanities and an outdoor garden shower. Now you can make your own conclusions, and decide.
Unfortunately, I guess sustainability is not our thing, and I wont say the resort isn’t a good quality/value property, since I know many guests and travel agents rave about them, but it was not the type of hotel/resort experience we were looking for our two last day relaxing in Koh Samui. In a few words not the hotel for us, but it might be for you, that is why I decided to feature it into my blog and let each of you decide, in all fairness to the hotel, you my readers and all the fellow hotel properties that continuously support my blog. As I always say, this blog is based on my own experiences and points of view, and I might not always be right, what I do not find appropriate for me, you might for you. And this is the beauty to be able to show you photos and videos for you to judge.
Our main issues with this property were basically three: (1) The hotels looks a bit tired and old fashioned. I know that recently Six Senses has changed ownership and management and they are already working on all this details. I might say this has been my first experience ever with Six Senses Hotels, so I do not have a record or deep knowledge of their brand. My point of view is that the hotel needs a renovation. (2) The crowd was just not our crowd, and we felt a bit out of place. (3) The hotel has an issue with mosquitos, and although they fog three times a day, our room, common areas, pool, and restaurant On The Rocks were the attach zones for them.
Now one thing is irrefutable , Six Senses Samui has one of the best panoramic views and sunsets seen in Koh Samui overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. It is just breathtaking. And the infinity pool over the Gulf of Thailand is stunning. I won’t say much more, since after an hour of being in the property, we decided to check out and move back to our previous hotel the W Retreat Koh Samui. We spoke to the management and explained them the reasons. They fully understood, and the General Manager came over to greet us, here our reasons and help us transfer back to our previous hotel. I must say that despite the awkwardness of the situation, everyone at Six Senses were extra professional, accommodating and warm, and in the end that is the extra mile every hotel and travel service should go for.
Their restaurant Dinning on the Rock, is supposed to be one of the top gourmet experiences in Koh Samui. The award-winning Dining on the Rocks Restaurant is located at the tip of the headland and presents 270 degree views, whilst Dining on the Hill offers regional and international cuisine. Six Senses Samui has the reputation for serving some of the best food on Koh Samui and uses the freshest herbs, vegetables, and organic greens from the resort’s own gardens.
Everyone else we saw at the resort, seemed to be enjoying their time there, relaxing, at the pool or having cocktails watching the sunset. When things like this happen, I wonder and ask myself…. am I too spoiled or jaded ? and then I answer myself… NO. I know what I like and I know that what I don’t like, does not mean is less or worst, but just not for me. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends
