Afternoon exploring Hermitage Museum
Afternoon exploring Hermitage Museum | St Petersburg, Russia | The second largest museum of the world after the Louvre in Paris, and followed by the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. Founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great. The entire collection of the Museum comprises approximately three million pieces, of which only a few are on display, since 1852, when the Museum opened its doors to the public. This Museum is proud to host the current biggest collection of paintings in the world.
You will need days to explore this Museum and all its multiple buildings and exhibitions. Yesterday I did only the Winter Palace, where the main entrance to the Museum is located (RUB 400 x person aka. USD 8). The stairs, ballrooms, high ceilings, stunning wood floor, go on and on…. all boasting exhibits and collections from around the world, spectacular enormous columns of marble and granite, and gigantic Vases made out of jasper, lapis lazuli and malachite.
I will be back tomorrow. This time with a guide, whom only in a few hours, will take us to the key spots of the Museum, saving us time and sharing all his knowledge. Can’t wait for it. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends
