I flew into Cancun a few days in advance, to enjoy sometime unwinding in Riviera Maya, before beginning my work at ILTM Americas. Hosted by Hotel Esencia in Xpu Ha, I enjoyed a lovely weekend with the.
After a fantastic Casual-chic and relaxing weekend at Hotel Esencia in Xpu Ha, it was time to head to Mayakoba ( only 20 minutes away ) to begin the week at ILTM Americas. Read more on Hotel Esencia.
Upon arrival to Mayakoba, I Checked IN at the Fairmont Mayakoba Resort, and accredited myself as part of the VIP MEDIA Programme, looking for an exciting week ahead. Such an honor to have my website considered to be part of this select group of International Luxury travel journalists, influencers and bloggers. Some of my fellow colleagues were representing leading publications and networks from around the globe, such as Travel & Leisure, Robb Report, CNN, Tatler, National Geographic, Departures, El Pais, AFAR among a few others.
The most important aspect of ILTM Americas, is connecting and networking with a select group of Luxury Travel & Hospitality colleagues and suppliers, from the Americas and around the world.
An afternoon reconnecting with old friend Chef Pablo Loza, and most important tasting his local gourmet creations. Chef Pablo Loza, who I met when he was working at Belmond Maroma Resort, and now as Executive Chef of the Rosewood Mayakoba.
And making new friends, in the most informal and relaxed ways, over a good round of Mezcal with Habanero Salt, with Ariel Crespo from CNN and Bianca Perna from Spotlight Communications.
Without a doubt, one of the main highlights came by Rosewood Mayakoba, with a private MEDIA dinner to unveil their brand new 4-Bedrooms Luxury Residences, being released next December 2016. We enjoyed s lovely 3-steps local gourmet experience by Chef Pablo Loza at the gardens of the residences, serenaded by Mariachis live performances.
Another big reveal, come by the hand of Andaz Hotels and Hyatt, announcing the opening of their next property, Andaz Mayakoba. Since the hotel is still under construction, scheduled to open December 15th 2016, they come up with a very creative idea… We sailed onboard a catamaran, to positing right in-front of the property, to a fantastic show of lights featuring the brand new resort. Such a lovely evening, where Champagne and Hors d’oeuvre kept flowing at the rhythm of the music while we were sailing across the Mayan Riviera.
One of the best gourmet experiences I had, was at LA MAREA Restaurant at the Viceroy Resort Riviera Maya. A 5-Steps gourmet dinner by young and talented Chef Jorge Idelfonso. Great company contemporary interpretation of Mexican cuisine with Mediterranean influences, complimented by the sounds and breeze from the ocean, under this beautiful palapa.
Of course I could not resist to follow our dinner, by doing a site inspection of the Viceroy Resort, including their Beach Villas. Hidden in a small village of Playa Xcalacoco just outside Playa del Carmen, along the pearlescent sands of the Riviera Maya, Viceroy, is a seaside refuge extending deep into the primitive Maya tropical forest. The 41-villa Mexico Luxury resort and its stunning spa present the epitome of Maya Riviera beach unpretentious luxury, exuding the ambience of an exclusive private Playa del Carmen villa or opulent residential compound.
Dinne at Banyan Tree’s signature restaurant Saffron serving contemporary Thai Cuisine prepared by Thai chefs, was also a great gourmet experience. Saffron is a one-of-a-kind experience. Sitting on the wooden deck and overlooking the tropical mangroves, while sampling the finest Thai delicacies, is truly unforgettable. Chef Renu Homsombat is a passionate culinary professional with two decades of experience in Thai Cuisine.
After my lovely dinner at Saffron, I Checked IN at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba, for a one night stay at one of their lovely Bliss Pool Villas. Airy living and outdoor dining areas, a spacious bathroom and a private landscaped garden promises to bring you comfort and bliss in your Riviera Maya villa.
The following morning, early wake up call to enjoy the Bliss Pool Villa. Took some time off for a leisure morning, breakfast, and a bike ride around the property, before heading back to the Fairmont Mayakoba, located only 10 minutes away. It was time to go back to work.
Not all was work, of course. These are the perks of doing this event in Riviera Maya. Most of my morning started at 6AM in the morning, by a run at the beach, some cross-fit training or yoga by the pool, follow by some relaxing time at the pool and off back to my room to get ready for breakfast and for a day of Media Round Tables as part of the ILTM Americas Media Programme.
The week came to an end and it was time to say GOODBYE to Mayakoba and Riviera Maya, after a fantastic event. Farewell Riviera Maya, fortunately enough, I will be back in two weeks, at Belmond Maroma Resort, for another busy work getaway in heave, on my role and duty as founding member of the Global LGBT Advisory Board for Belmond Hotels, Trains, River Cruises and Journeys.
