Transitioning from Amalfi Coast to London via Venice in style | Venice, Italy | My visit to Amalfi Coast came to an end in Ravello. Early morning wake up, and my private car was waiting for at the front of the Belmond Hotel Caruso, to drive me to Naples Train Station to catch my Frecciarossa High-Speed train to my next destination Venice and the crowning jewel among Venice hotels, the Belmond Hotel Cipriani. My choice for this 5-hours train ride, was their Business Class service. Unfortunately, the Executive service was not available on this train. When booking Business Class, you have the option to choose among Regular Business Class section, Quiet Business Class section, where no cell phones are allowed and Salottino Business Class, ideal for families, business travellers or small groups of 4 people, with your own private space. During the train ride, thestewardesses pass several times offering non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, snack and a meal tray. You can also always access the Cafeteria cart, during your ride. Despite offering Wifi connectivity onboard, this was not working. Seats are arranged 2+1 across the car width. Power sockets at all seats. There’s plenty of luggage space.
I have been to Venice, many times, and this particular time, I was there for less than 24-hours, transitioning from the Amalfi Coast to board the iconic VSOE Venice Simplon Orient-Express luxury train which would take me from enice to London in a journey back in time and in full style, across Italy, Austria, France and through the EuroTunnel to arrive in London. So this time, I decided to stay away from the typical tourist attractions, and enjoy the hospitality, exclusivity and glamour of my lovely hotel, the Grande Dame of Venice, the Belmond Hotel Cipriani. So upon arrival to Venice, my private water taxi – areanged by the hotel – was awaiting me, with a host at the gate of train, to seamlessly take me, along the lovely Grand Canal, to the secluded island of Giudecca, home to the iconic Belmond Hotel Cipriani. Just getting there is already an full experience of Venice.
By 6PM I was arriving to Giudecca Island and Belmond Hotel Cipriani, to be welcome by Mr. Ottazi – General Manager. Checked IN and escorted to my lovely Junior Suite. There was not much time, since my plans for the evening at Hotel Cipriani, were about to unfold. With only time to take a relaxing shower and enjoy a glass of Rose Champagne at my private balcony overlooking the gardens and the Giudecca Island waterfront.
Four minutes by private launch from San Marco, on the tip of Giudecca Island, this luxury hotel commands unrivalled views of the lagoon and Doge’s Palace. Steeped in Venetian style, it is known for interiors decorated in exquisite local artefacts, classic cuisine with an innovative twist and the most fabulous swimming pool in the city. I was hosted at one of their lovely Junior Suites. True timeless luxury Junior Suites are light and spacious. Private balconies or gardens afford tranquil vineyard, pool or lagoon views. Generous king or twin beds ensure a restful sleep.. This is not my first time staying at Belmond Cipriani. Check out the post of my previous stay on 2013.
Venice: a glorious, theatrical experience that touches all the senses. And if Venice is a theatre, Belmond Hotel Cipriani is the Royal Box. My evening was about to begin, along the fabulous Laura Di Bert – Regional PR Director for Belmond Italy & Mallorca.
Our evening began, of course, over Vodka Martinis, at the San Giorgio Bar. The perfect spot to sip a delicious aperitif or after dinner cocktail while gazing across the beautiful lagoon.
I was rather excited to try their brand new Michelin starred ORO Restaurant, by Executive Chef Davide Bisetto. A jewel in the crown of Belmond Hotel Cipriani. Designed by world-renowned interior architect Adam D. Tihany, Oro reflects the romantic spirit of Venice. Take your seat beneath Murano glass chandeliers and the golden ceiling, from which the restaurant draws its name. Or retreat to the terrace, where views across the lagoon provide a stunning backdrop to lunch or dinner.Executive Chef Davide Bisetto creates imaginative dishes inspired by Italian tradition. The highest quality, freshest ingredients are used to ensure an experience that will delight all of your senses. Bisetto creates Jackson Pollock-style masterpieces, and delights in dishes that are influenced by his love of contemporary art. With an expansive wine list boasting over 1000 labels, including many local vintages, you’ll find the perfect pairing to every dish. Great company, fabulous wine, and exquisite food. My choices for the evening were: Starter: L’Orto – Herbs, flowers and vegetables from our synergic garden, vegetable dressing. Main Course: Risotto with crab broth, gray shrimp and galanga lemon. Side Dish: of course I could not resist to try the Ventresca – Glazed tuna belly, eggplant and vin brulè sauce. Dessert: well the Chef surprised us with a selection of their classics followed by the Cheese and Chocolate cart. But the night still was young, and my hosts were ready to move on to the pool side bar,
The night was still you, and our next – brief – stop was of course and obligated one, at Gabbiano Bar. Facing the pool, the Gabbiano Bar is a popular spot. Watch the sun slip beneath the horizon with a cocktail. Sip an after-dinner nightcap in the romantic Piano Bar. Slightly tipsy – I must say – and exhausted after an early morning, a long day transitioning from Amalfi Coast and a lovely and uber sophisticated evening, I was ready to head vack to my suite, for a nice night sleep. A very exciting dat was ahead of me, departing Venice onwards to London, aboard the VSOE Venice Simplon Orient-Express luxury train.
The following morning I woke up early, and enjoyed a lovely al-fresco breakfast on the terraces of Oro Restaurant overlooking the lagoon. Was such a gorgeous day out.
Took a stroll by the gardens and the outdoors pool area. The gardens at Belmond Hotel Cipriani, are like entering into “Alice in Wonderland” mode. You must find the little rabbit wondering around.
Time to Check Out and begin my exciting overnight journey to London, across Italy – Austria and France, aboard the VSOE Venice Simplon Orient-Express. From beginning to end. From Ravello to Venice and Belmond has secured a safe and sophiaticated pass and experience as I transition in full style. Yet another fantastic stay at the iconic Belmond Hotel Cipriani, brief, but I know I will always come back.
Time to board… But that is for my next post. Next stop London. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com
