Where should you stay when visiting San Miguel de Allende | San Miguel de Allende, Mexico | After my 3-nights stay in San Miguel de Allende, here is my recommendation on where to stay. From traditional colonial style, to a trendy artsy boutique hotel. You choose your own story, and way to enjoy the charming town of San Miguel de Allende. And check out my list of recommended restaurants as well.
Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada. Quintessentially San Miguel de Allende. I stayed with them for two nights. For me this property embraces, exudes and portraits what this destination is all about. It is private, it is chic and it is very quiet. A cluster of historic buildings at the centre of the city. Charming luxury hotel ultimate Mexican experience. Cool, leafy gardens, stone arches and traditional wooden doors surround pretty courtyards lit by lanterns as night falls. Highlights: The hotel has its own cooking school, Sazon, where you can learn to create traditional Mexican treats. My building, the heart of Casa Palma was a hidden oasis. The azure pool sits surrounded by the beautiful stone arches and arcades of the mansion. A courtyard dotted with manicured trees and colourful flowers makes it a fantastic setting for a cooling dip. Loved the rooftop terrace, with stunning panoramic views of the town. My Suite was very comfortable featuring an outdoor terrace and plunge pool. I enjoyed drinks at their Blue Bar and traditional Mexican Breakfast and Dinner at their restaurant Andanza. Rosewood San Miguel de Allende. It is quite an spectacular resort option, ideal for a longer stay or a destination wedding. I spent here one night. Unfortunately I was not able to try their restaurant, but I made sure to come to their rooftop bar Luna, to enjoy a cocktail as the sun was setting over San Miguel de Allende and Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel. Highlights: And incredible outdoor pool. A beautiful garden for weddings. Fully equipped spa and fitness center. I couldn’t get over walking by their arched hallways, enjoying the echo of my footsteps and the lightning once the sun was gone. So romantic. TIP If you book this property through me, you will enjoy the following VIP Amenities: Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability + Continental breakfast daily, for up to two in room guests + $100 USD Equivalent Spa Services credit, to be utilized during stay + Early check-in/late check-out subject to availability.
Hotel Matilda. Art Boutique Hotel by Desing Hotels. I came here for lunch at their featured Restaurant MOXI by renown Mexican Chef Enrique Olvera. Previous to my lunch, I was invited to a walk around the property. Ultra modern, chic, in avant-garde style, concept and design. A total contrast to the colonial style of San Miguel de Allende. Highlights: Other than their spectacular restaurant, I quite like the overall atmosphere and concept of the hotel. They are well known, among locals, for having the best Spa experience in town. Completely different from the previous two options. Each space is curated to perfection with the art and style. A must see is their bathrooms locate at the Mui Bar, hosting wall photographs by Spencer Tunick. Last but not least, Dos Cosas Boutique Hotel & Spa. Here I came to enjoy lunch at their Restaurant APERI. I was invited to a brief visit of the property, which was quite full. Here you will feel as if you would be at your own home, away from home, an intimate space that emerges from the perfect balance of warmth and sophistication. The hotel has 12 modern and hip rooms featuring current design trends without overlooking its purely Mexican essence.
Hopefully, after reading my report, and as the night sets over San Miguel de Allende, you will find the best option that matches your style and personality. Sleep tight. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com
