Sneak-Preview of the new Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York | New York, United States | If you happen to be a huge fan of Baccarat as I am, how can you not be, then you will love this brand new / soon to open first hotel by iconic luxury brand Baccarat. Heritage is the word that defines this heaven made out of glass, silk, fine textures and a galore of exquisitely curated marvelous chandeliers. Founded and commanded by King Louis XV, Baccarat is a legendary French crystal company, a true luxury brand whose renowned artisans have been producing objects of perfect craftsmanship for more than 250 years.
This perfect marriage came from combining this iconic brand, with a former top Starwood executive, responsible among others to be one of the creators of the W Hotels and Resorts concept. Now, Baccarat’s latest evolution — from luxury product to luxury hotel, from glittering objet to gracious lifestyle — translates the brand’s unique artisanal essence and noble heritage into a living, breathing culture of craft. Their first property opening next March 2nd, in the heart of Manhattan, on West 53rd Street, just across the MOMA Museum.
You might think Paris… right. Well I think Oriental style meets France, and lands in New York. Baccarat Hotel & Residences New York is a contemporary Manhattan take on a classically elegant Parisian hôtel particulier. It blends influences past and present to create sumptuous spaces, both grand and intimate that inspire wonder with their enchanting surprises and carefully considered details. Executive Chef Shea Gallante, who earned a Michelin star for his work at New York’s Cru, will lead the hotel’s elevated and imaginative culinary offerings, working in partnership with Restaurant Director Charles Masson, the man long responsible for the discreet charms of Manhattan’s haute French icon La Grenouille. Accessed through its own street-level entrance, the signature restaurant, Chevalier — named for longtime Baccarat creative director George Chevalier— will enchant hotel guests, residents and locals with a sophisticated dining experience offering Brasserie de Luxe in a contemporary French setting.
Sought after Paris-based design duo Gilles & Boissier created nearly every piece of furniture for the hotel’s soaring salon-style public spaces, as well as the 114 light-filled rooms and suites of the hotel. Weaving artisanal Baccarat crystal elements throughout, they lavished attention on each surface, be it a sparkling mica-covered vaulted ceiling, silver-leafed wood paneling, pleated-silk walls or a monumental marble table. New York design masters Tony Ingrao and Stephen Sills, respectively, handled the 60 residences and the ground-level contemporary French restaurant, Chevalier.
I was invited to preview their first room. An entry level room. Attention to artisanal detail synonymous with Baccarat and an array of materials that blend influences and aesthetics both traditional and modern. Each light-filled dwelling encompasses a generous 400 to 450 square feet, and features a plush king-sized bed, floor-to-ceiling windows, a sitting area and shimmering Baccarat crystal accents. The hotel will offer three classic room types and four Suite types, including the fabulous Baccarat Suite.
By late March, the Spa by La Mer, the fitness center and a pool featuring daybeds inspired by the cabanas of the Côte d’Azur, the frescoed Japanese paper walls hand-painted in India ink to evoke the forested region where Baccarat crystal is made.
