Hotel site-inspections in London

London by Carlos MeliaHotel site-inspections in London  |  London, UK  | During my last visit to London, over New Year’s Eve, I took a full day to review and visit a few hotels, what in our industry call Site-Inspections. I came to visit the following: The new Shangri-La Hotel, at London’s new iconic landmark The Shard. Followed by lovely and cozy The Connaught Hotel by the  Maybourne Hotel Group in Mayfair. The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, where I also enjoyed a lovely Fashion-Themed Afternoon Tea “Pret a Portea”. And finished my day at the trendy and happening EDITION Hotel London, with a few drinks at their original and intimate Punch Room. See my day in photos below.
Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, LondonShangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London.  As they say, a new level of Luxury, but since I have not stayed with them yet, all I can say is that the level refers to the elevation and the breathtaking views of London, the Thames River and London’s Skyline. The hotel is located between the 34th to 52nd floors of London’s new iconic landmark The Shard. For my next visit or stay with them, I look forward to relaxing with a cocktail at Shangri-La’s stylish GŎNG bar, on level 52, where you marvel at sparkling city views as the evening sky gently shifts colour. Location can be an issue for some, and a asset for others, right off London Bridge Station. Before moving on to my next appointment, I made sure to enjoy the view, while keeping warm with a cup of coffee. Read More

Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, LondonThe Connaught Hotel. The Connaught occupies a quiet corner in the heart of Mayfair Village – one of the most exclusive and fashionable districts of London and with Oxford Street. A lovely quaint and intimate property. A team of internationally renowned designers have led the way in the Connaught’s sensitive restoration, maintaining its period detail whilst adding the best of 21st century design and technology. I was lucky to visit The Prince’s Lodge Signature Suite. Inspired by Kabul’s Peacock Palace and named after Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, the Prince’s Lodge is uniquely crafted to carefully embody both Islamic design and Mayfair style, setting ornate carving amid minimalist architecture. Guests in this suite will come home to a long-ago traveller’s collection of treasures – hand-carved furniture from Kabul, maps and photographs dating back to 1870, stained glass windows, sculptures by stone carver Adam Williamson and stunning paintings. All this is mixed with the latest in modern technology creating the perfect retreat for the cultured traveller. The bar is quite charming and a great place to unwind over a drink or light lunch. Definitely I hotel I would choose for my own stays. Read More

In the heart of London’s Knightsbridge, with Sloane Street and Hyde Park on the doorstep. Funny enough this was one of my first hotel experiences, long long ago, over my first visit to London. Always great to return, specially to the stunning and sophisticated The Blue Bar. A popular and exclusive top London celebrity hangout. But despite the buzz it’s a chilled-out venue where our staff makes everyone welcome. During my visit, I made sure to try their Fashion-themer Afternoon Tea ” Pret-a-portea”.   Read More

Perhaps the most trendy and happening of them all. The London EDITION blends groundbreaking innovation, great design, outstanding dining and entertainment with personal, friendly, modern service. Located in Fitzrovia on the edge of London’s Soho neighborhood, this luxury boutique hotel preserves the finest aspects of an iconic landmark building, but reinvents the spaces within to create a dynamic fusion of old and new, past and present. On my next visit, I have made a mental note to try their restaurant, Berners Tavern by Michelin-starred Executive Chef Jason Atherton. He puts a twist on traditional British cuisine with a restaurant menu entirely sourced in the UK. I did try their original, cozy and intimate Punch Room, which I found to be a extremely original idea. Enjoy a great selection of Punches, by the fireplace. Eight carefully crafted specialty punches including the gin infused EDITION Punch with jasmine tea and oak moss. Punch Room, a fumed-oak paneled den inspired by the comfort of manor house libraries and nineteenth-century London’s private clubs, yet a modern reincarnation. Read More
