Haifa & the Bahá’í World Centre | Haifa. Israel | Haifa is the third largest city in Israel, located to the North of Tel Aviv, approximately 1 hour away. t is also home to the Bahá’í World Centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, the city is a major seaport located on Israel’s Mediterranean coastline in the Bay of Haifa.
The main highlight to me of Haifa, was the stunningly gorgeous Bahá’í World Centre, terraces and shrine of the Báb from the Bahá’í Faith. The youngest and most recent religion in the entire world, and yes yet one more coexisting in tolerance in Israel. Since 1844, it has become the second-most-widespread religion, with more that 5 million adherents.
Come and enjoy the quiet, contemplative atmosphere of the Bahá’í World Centre, terraces and gardens. No admission fee is charged and nothing is for sale. Its founder Bahá’í Faith, is considered by its followers, to be the most recent in a line of messengers of God. His shrine is located in Acre, 25 minutes north from Haifa.
In Haifa you will find the Shrine of the Báb, one of the city’s most prominent landmarks and second holiest Shrine for this faith. The terraces, open to the public, were designed to provide an appropriate setting and approach for pilgrims and visitors to the holy place.
After doing some research on the Bahá’í Faith, I would have to say that I was quite interested on some of their principles, like to be: Abandonment of all forms of prejudice, fully equality between the sexes, elimination of extremeness poverty and wealth, right and responsibility of each person to search independently for truth, establishment of a world federal system and the most interesting… recognition that faith must be consistent with reason and that science and religion should be in harmony.
18 monumental terraces, mark that path to the Shrine of the Báb. Unique in style, with meticulous symmetry and deal. One of the distinguishing features of these garden is the attention paid to the conservation of the mountain environment and water resources.
There is plenty to discover in Haifa. Unfortunately I only had a few hours to spare. But if you decide to stay overnight, check out this lovely hotel I found right down the Bahá’í World Centre on Sderot Ben Gurion, The Colony Hotel Haifa. My next destination, only 25 minutes away was the Harbor City of Caesarea, but this is for my next post.
