One unexpected night at Shangri-La Paris | Paris, France | So during my last stay in Paris, I had a sudden and unpredicted stay at the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris. My airline, La Compagnie All-Business-Class Boutique Airline, cancel our flight, and taking full responsibility of our over stay, they accommodated us at the very lovely Shangri-La Paris. I mean, if you can, who says no to an extra night at a beautiful hotel in Paris right ?
As you arrive at Shangri-La Hotel, Paris, its elegant façade brings to mind its legacy as the former home of Napoleon Bonaparte’s grandnephew, Prince Roland Bonaparte. Attentive staff and a pleasantly discreet check-in ensure that you receive the royal treatment right from the start. The hotel has 101 rooms including 36 Suites offering unparalleled direct views of the Eiffel Tower and the River Seine. This rich history of the building, occupied by international legends, corroborates its uniqueness bringing together discreet luxury and the intimacy of a private residence. In restoring this exceptional heritage to its former glory, Shangri-La offers Paris and the World an exclusive new address in the City of Lights. Located in the heart of the elegant and serene “16ème arrondissement”, near the Trocadéro and steps from the Champs-Elysées.
My stay was at one of their lovely and spacious French-style Superior Rooms with a balcony overlooking the courtyard. All rooms and suites are decorated in shades of blue, white and ecru, in keeping with both European Empire and Asian aesthetics. Interiors offer a pleasing harmony of textures and colors, from silk-threaded wallpaper, textured wall panels and refined crystal hardware on custom-made furnishings. Each room and suite has a marble bathroom with heated floors, separate bathtub and rainfall shower and double sinks above which a flat-screen television is integrated into a large mirror. The majority have exterior windows to let in natural light and certain rooms offer a direct view of the Eiffel Tower from the bathtub (not mine). All rooms are equipped with complimentary Wi-fi and landline Internet connection. In honour of the group’s white tea signature fragrance worldwide, Shangri-La Hotel, Paris offers its guests BVLGARI White Tea toiletry products, in every room.
My absolute favorite at the hotel, were the two front rooms right next to the main entrance to the hotel. I could spend hours there, sipping a Martini and enjoying watching the people walk by. Such lovely room cozy and elegant French-style decor.
The indoor pool was quite nice as well, as part of their Health and Spa center. Using the landmark building’s classical French architecture and high vaulted ceilings as a point of departure, the architect anchored the space with a pool measuring 15 metres by 6 metres and extended it with a 94-square-metre plant-lined private open-air terrace. I had no time for the spa or the fitness center unfortunately. Since given the proximity to Seine River and Champ-de-Mars, I opted for a fun and scenic outdoor workout.
My favorite photo moments at this property, were both the hotel grand staircase leading to the events area. It is so beautiful both day and night, and the exquisite glass cupola and Murano chandelier at La Bauhinia Restaurant.
My not so favorite was La Bauhinia Resturant. The only one I managed to try, due to timing but also because being low season all other restaurants were closed. This is very personal, but I was not so crazy about the design of the room, other the yes indeed loving the Murano chandelier and the glass cupola. At La Bauhinia, is were you will enjoy your morning breakfast. And I must say that I was quite happy, to find a full Asian option. Something I really like and of course you can enjoy when choosing Asian based hotel groups like Shangri-La.
