NIZUC Resort & Spa | Riviera Maya, Mexico | I have to admit, I have never been a fan of Cancun, and most of the times I have visited Riviera Maya, I have gone to Maroma Beach and up, like Tulum. But I think, the new NIZUC Resort, has changed my mind, and I would consider a pre/post experience at Punta Nizuc. The rumor says, the original plan was to create residences by Aman Resorts, but the project was stopped. Mexico based hospitality group Brisas took over and develop the project in full. Funny enough, the moment I stepped foot into the property, my first feeling was ” Mexico meets Asia” and question was, … was anyone from Aman Resorts or COMO Hotels involved into this project, and funny enough in some way they were.
We came just for the day, and we were hosted at one of their fabulous Ocean View Master Suites at the Residences. Measuring over 1,630 sq ft, our Master Suite has 1,030 sq ft of interior space and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. This exquisite Master Suite conveniently connects to the Ocean Deluxe View Double to accommodate larger groups and has floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto a beautiful 600 sq ft terrace featuring a large infinity pool. A king bed draped in fine Egyptian cotton linens and blackout curtains ensure a night of comfort and tranquility. The large bathroom features a freestanding deep soaking tub with separate rainfall shower and luxurious amenities such as plush bathrobes, slippers, and L’Occitane products. In-suite entertainment is provided through a state-of-the-art system with flat panel televisions in both the bedroom and bathroom, IP Avaya telephone, Radio with iPod dock, and WIFI. The suite is equipped with a mini-bar and Nespresso coffee maker. Butler service available.
The views from our suite was STUNNING, from our private plunge pool to the Caribbean Sea and the NIZUC Bay and the beach. Protected mangroves and lush, local foliage, and facing the white sands of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second largest coral reef in the world. Important to mention is that NIZUC Resort, is the only resort offering two private beaches. This makes a huge difference when staying in Cancun.
NIZUC means “Nose of a Dog”, and the logo of the hotel is a figure of a Mayan Dog. Therefore, it only makes sense that the resort is 100% Pet Friendly. So of course our Miniature Schnauzer BRUNA, joined us. She was even spotted while at La Punta Restaurant, by a lady who was quite excited to finally meet the famous Travel with Bruna. Not only they welcomed her with her own bed and plates, but also with VIP Amenities, a bespoke collar with the logo of the hotel in pure silver with her name inscribed. As for Room Service, she had her own menu, which included options like Steak Tartare and/or refreshing Mint Cookies. While Rubin went to be pampered for two hours at their Spa by ESPA. Both Bruna and I, joined the Director of Sales and Marketing, on a full one hour site inspection of the property. The first signature ESPA in the Mexican Caribbean, 30,000 sq. ft. spa sets new standards in wellness, advanced therapies and interior design.
The resort has been conceived, designed, edited and curated to perfection to all details. The resort offers 274 luxurious suites and private villas dispersed throughout its 29-acre property. Guests can enjoy the resort’s multiple pools, six world-class restaurants, private jetty, 30,000 square foot spa and 8,500 square feet of event and meeting space. NIZUC Resort & Spa is a celebration of the best that Punta Nizuc has to offer — a rich cultural heritage on one of the most spectacular natural beach fronts in the world.
My absolute favorites where… First the Adults Beach area, including La Punta Restaurant, where we enjoyed a lovely lunch, with local fresh creations like my Octopus Burger, and their signature fantastic Martinis. This is one of the many outdoor pools at the resort, but the only one exclusive for adults. With its thatch roof and tropical setting, La Punta Grill & Lounge is the perfect place to indulge in a menu that includes succulent seafood and fine cuts of meat perfectly grilled and served in a casual outdoor atmosphere with panoramic ocean views. Either if you are staying at the property or not, I recommend coming for lunch or dinner.
A must after lunch, is to walk to the back of the restaurant and visit (first) the pier, and if you can take a quick dip into the crystal turquoise waters. (second) lay dow at one of their private balconies and enjoy a nap. (third) take a stroll along the private beach. My second favorite (and not that I smoke at all, but I go crazy over this style) was the Habana Lounge. So earthy and masculine. A cigar lounge with an extensive selection of rums from the Caribbean, Havana Lounge offers an intimate setting where guests are invited to sit back and relax while enjoying hand-rolled cigars as they sip on their favorite spirits.
My third favorite where the Villas. One and Two Bedrooms Villas, with the own courtyard featuring a infinity pool and an outdoor living room. Measuring over 2,430 sq ft, for the Garden Pool Villa, to 5,550 sq ft for the grandiose Presidential Suite Villa.
