OpenSkies BEST Non-Stop New York / Paris | Paris, France | Hi there everyone. !!! I am back. I took a few weeks break from work and the blog, and ran to Paris to assist, my partner Rubin Singer during Paris Fashion Week 2014. Lots to share, kiss and tell. Fabulous hotels, restaurants and tips, so we need to catch up indeed. But on this trip I got to experience for the first time OpenSkies by British Airways. I have used this airline in the past for clients and they all raved about it, so I decided to give it a try, and I must say I AM OBSESSED with it.
I flew Premium Plus Class, Non-Stop JFK New York to Orly Paris. On our way to France was approximately 6 hours 30 minutes and on the way back 8 hours. Without a doubt, OpenSkies has the most comfortable Premium Plus cabin in its category. A small cabin, large leather seat to relax while sipping on fine bubbles. Arrive in Paris or New York feeling great to enjoy your vacation or start your work day.
OpenSkies became very famous years ago, pre British Airways era, for being a full Business Class airline connecting New York and Paris. No they offer 50% Business Class, 20% Premium Plus and 30% Economy. After looking at the options, service, seats and flight time, I would say that Premium Plus is the best option and you won’t be disappointed. We were traveling with our Miniature Schnauzer “Bruna” in Cabin, so Business Class was not an option for us. Of course there is a difference, Business Class seats are the classic British Airways configuration, with full bed.
Our seats were 2 x 2 LARGE and reclined, I would say 130 degrees. I am not a big sleeper on flights between New York and France, England or Spain, so full bed feature does not make a difference to me. I am most interested in the comfort of the seat, entertainment and meals. BTW great entertainment system on all classes, with individual iPads, load with the latests movies, TV series, music and some games.
Since we were traveling to Paris for Fashion Week, luggage was an issue. OpenSkies allows you, when flying Premium Plus, to check in 2 bags (51 lbs each) for free and up to a maximum 8 extra bags for an average of USD 170 per bag (TIP. !!! If you purchase the extra luggage online while checking in, you will save USD 20 per bag). We were traveling with 10 bags total. Baggage
Booking our dog, to fly with us in cabin was VERY easy. We called in advance, had her included into our booking. Once at the airport, the check in was simple and quick. Nobody seamed to be shocked we had our dog in the cabin. Here you can read more about it. Travel with Pets
During each flight, in our cabin, we were served a hot meal, including alcoholic beverages, plus a snack approximately one hour prior arrival. Meals were decent size and tasteful. I would give them 7 points on this. Each seat had also its own pillow, blanket and kit with a toothbrush, socks and eye mask. Also each seat had power outlets.
Flights arrive to Orly Airport in Paris, which I must say was a perk, compared to Charles de Gaulle. In less than 15 minutes we cleared customs, got our bags and were out at the arrivals lounge looking for our private transfer to take us to our hotel in Etoile. The airport has limited services when heading back home, but we didn’t care much, since there was a British Airways lounge.
Being part of British Airways and the ONEWorld alliance, we were able to put our miles to our Advantage Frequent Flyer program. I must say that this love affair with OpenSkies, will be a long term relationship. We go to Paris at least three times a year, and the whole experience was beyond enjoyable, comfortable and easy.
