TOWER Restaurant | Edinburgh, Scotland | Spectacular views of Edinburgh‘s castle and the city skyline feature on the menu of James Thomson’s rooftop Tower Restaurant above Edinburgh‘s National Museum of Scotland. Exceptional food, an inventive menu, deft service and inspirational wines in a chic and glamorous setting are Tower trademarks. This is rooftop dining at its most spectacular – with brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner every day. Sister property of my other favorite in town, Rubharb Restaurant. Located steps away from the famous Royal Mile and minutes from Edinburgh‘s castle.
The minute you get on the elevator, you will not expect such a lovely lunch experience, enjoying spectacular panoramic views. Scotland has some of the world’s best food and produce available, and they like to show it. Expect dishes packed with flavour and seasonal ingredients too.
My choices were, a very local and traditional dish (but on the vegetarian side for me) haggis with potato espuma (£9.50), Pan fried cod, saffron heritage potato and shellfish butter sauce (£24.50) and a side dish of Honey roasted parsnips (£3.95). But for those of you into beef and game, you might enjoy some roasted red deer loin, Lamb shank or some Fillet Steak from award winning, local butchers, John Gilmour and Cairnhill Farm.
James Thomson, Scotland’s best-known restaurateur in now enjoying the fourth decade of his first restaurant, the renowned the Witchery by the Castle. Opened on Halloween 1979, the Witchery is probably now Scotland’s most famous restaurant and restaurant-with-rooms. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com
