Do Leoni Ristorante at Londra Palace | Venice, Italy | I am confident to say that Do Leoni was, food wise, the best gourmet experience we had on our 2013 visit to Italy. Perhaps not the most striking to the eye, compared to other restaurants we tried in Rome, Tuscany and Florence, but indeed they know how to portray and carry the Relais & Châteaux heritage, by putting together a fantastic sophisticated yet casual and friendly gourmet experience. The Maitre D was outstanding. Was a pleasure to watch Samuel Baston, 1st Maitre d’Hotel Sommelier, and all his staff, work their art, which you could tell they feel beyond proud off. The ‘Do Leoni’, which renders homage to the symbols of England and Venice, is the pride of the Londra Palace, and outside guests are also welcome.
The Chef, Loris Indri, combines the traditions of classic Venetian fare with more elaborate dishes that delight even the most refined palates. His culinary art is enhanced by the elegance of the indoor dining room, whose décor includes artistic crystal, original paintings, and the veranda on the Riva degli Schiavoni.
My choices for the evening were… Antipasti: Tartare di Branzino with mint, brown sugar and black Hawaiian salt flakes and crunchy rye-bread (EUR 26). Main Course: which was OUTSTANDING and a treat to all senses. From the moment we got to see how was served, to the aromas and taste… Grigliata mist di pesce with gilt head, monk fish, sole, scampi, cuttlefish, sardines and scallops (EUR 40). The treat of the night was the Vanilla Souffle.
The wine and champagne list, offers a rich selection of prestigious labels made by the Maitre-Sommelier Samuel Baston. And if your are lucky enough, to finish your experience, he will share with you a few signature drinks created by him. CM @ Carlos Melia Recommends
