GPS Carlos Melia two AMAZING weeks in Thailand | And we are back in New York, after spending two AMAZING weeks in Thailand, planning and producing Rubin Singer‘s Fashion Shows in Bangkok and Koh Samui. Always a treat to spend time in Thailand, a country I carry close to my heart and always draws a BIG smile in my face. So many old and new friends there, could not be happier. On this trip, my fifth time in Thailand, we visited and spent time in Bangkok, Golden Triangle and Koh Samui. OMG so many photos and videos to share, that will take me forever, therefore I decided to do this summary of our time there. You can read more on the individual posts I have been doing pre/post and will do after our stay at the category Thailand. (photo above at the Four Seasons Koh Samui, where we were hosted for a full relaxing day having spa treatments and lunch at the beach)
Again the main reason of our visit were Rubin Singer’s Fashion Shows, and you can see the videos above/below courtesy of L’Officiel TV. Also lots of live footage on the following links: Lifestyle at its premium combining Carlos Melia’s Luxury Travel and Experiences, and Rubin Singer’s Haute Couture.
Here I will share with you all, an image summary of all the highlights of this trip.
If you know a bit of me already, you know that the TOP 01 highlight of my trip, was to spend time at the Four Seasons Tented Camp with TongKan . This time not only I renewed my Mahout License, but also got to try a whole new experience ” Elephant Polo“. Please also take a few minutes to watch the video interview I did with LIVE interview with John Roberts – Director at Golden Triangle Asian Elephants Foundation. Please like their facebook pages, help me spread the word about them worldwide and show your support to their amazing work taking the elephants out of the streets of Thailand. As I always say, living with the elephants, one of the TOP 05 Travel Experiences in the entire world, and trust me, I have been around.
Meet new friends, and spend time with old ones, without a doubt is my way to experience a destination. See it through the eyes of the locals. So both Rubin and I, made sure to save lots of time for this. Either close friends or work acquaintances, all made a difference on our last visit. Some of them deserve a special mention for their incredible support:
Nicholas Downing – General Manager at W Retreat Koh Samui. You and your staff went above and beyond to make sure that both Rubin and I were comfortable, taken care off and that the VIP Fashion Show was a total success. This can only be matched, by the beauty of your property and Koh Samui. For this we will always be thankful and we cannot wait to see you again. THANK YOU. !!!
Entire team at L’Officiel Magazine Thailand, in particular to Khun Kusuma Chaiyaporn – Publisher and Editor in Chief, Ali Ziani – Managing Partner, and the fabulous and talented Surachai Saengsuwan – Photographer at L’Officiel Thailand. Without your support, this would have not been possible. Looking forward to many more collaborations in the near future. And BTW I got to wear my brand new Rubin Singer original tuxedo from his men’s collection 2013, which made the comments and gossip of the evening.
Nicola Chilton – PR Director Asia and Pacific for Four Seasons, you ARE the best. You, your team and Vikas Akora, manage to create and deliver life changing experiences. Always a pleasure and honor to work with Four Seasons Thailand. Lunches and meetings of the minds, over focaccia and wine, at Biscotti is always a must during my visits.
But this time the highlight was to play Rubin Singer dress up with you and Jeninne Lee St John – Features Editor for Travel + Leisure Asia. Your face, smile and jumping said it all. BTW I will not get tire to say, YOU LOOK AMAZING on the red gown, it has your name written all over it.
Sorry if I am boring you guys with all this mentions, but all this people are so amazing and supportive, that are worth the mentions. Molly Linton, no need to tell you anything. You know how special you and Lulu are to us, and we love you. Sorry we didn’t get to spend more time together. Happy to see you grow, and looking forward to having you soon in New York. For the record everyone, we never planned to wear the same color, it is just FASHION.. ha ha ha.
Facebook tales of Koh Samui. In Spanish we say …” Dios los cria, y el viento los amontona…” (aka. God makes them and the devil takes them ) ha ha ha. The world is small enough, but certainly Facebook has made it even smaller. Robbie and Auris, great to randomly seeing you guys at W Retreat Koh Samui, and spending the afternoon drinking sake at the beach and at our villa.
We were on TOP of Bangkok. We enjoyed great meals, hotel stays, time with friends, work experiences and more than one occasion, shirtless ha ha ha. The pool at The OKURA Prestige Hotel on the 25th floor, overlooking the skyline of Bangkok, was without a doubt our playground for a few days. IF you are afraid of heights, WARNING….
I finally got Rubin to ride on the Tuk-Tuks for a true Bangkok experience. Stay away from the traffic and get a raw, down and real take on Bangkok. Both share our passion for Thai Cuisine and we certainly have plenty of it, never enough, but plenty indeed. Whether it is chic and fancy or raw and street food, we always enjoy a great noodle soup, Pad Thai or Tom Yum soup.
There were plenty of special moments, but if I would have to pinpoint two, would be: (1). Our romantic dinner at Four Seasons Tented Camp in full northern Lanna Thai cuisine style, with the sounds of the Mekong River overlooking a clear sky in the border between Laos, Myanmar and Thailand.
The (2). would have to be the dinner hosted by L’Officiel Magazine at the iconic Blue Elephant Restaurant & Cooking School. There we enjoyed traditional Thai dishes with a modern twist and got to meet to new friends, the sexy and bubbly Sandra Steppe – Manager co-owner at Blue Elephant and the edgy, funny and avant-garde Joy Pudaite from Mumbai, India.
Rubin Singer’s visit and events in Thailand were a total success, and thanks to the collaboration with W Retreat Koh Samui, it look sexier than ever complimented by the beautiful views of the Gulf of Thailand.
Got to spend my GLAM time among models, stylists, make-up artists, editors and celebrities. Among a few were: actress Min Peechaya Wattanamontree and the glamorous and beautiful Mai Davika. She looked taken from a classic Hollywood movie S-T-U-N-N-I-N-G
I even got a few flashbacks from my beauty pageant past together with fomer Ms Thailand International 2009 – Khum Chutima Chantelle Durongdej. Royalty represented.!!! Former Ms Thailand International 2009 and former Mr Gay International 2008 give their royal greetings
The journey is over, and I look back and have so many amazing memories to share and include to my travel groups to Thailand.
Light a lantern and sent it with my wishes to the sky, and I made sure that one of them is to return to Thailand very very soon. Thank you to every single one that made this trip possible. As I always say, trips should be life experiences, with a introduction, climax and ending, and indeed that was the case. Till next adventure in full luxury.
Special THANKS to all those who made possible this trip, in no particular order: Four Seasons Thailand, ETIHAD Airways, W Retreat Koh Samui, Thai Airways, Hansar Bangkok, The Siam, The Okura Prestige, W Bangkok, L’Officiel Magazine, Surachai Saengsuwan, Mercedes-Benz, Veuve Clicquot, Belvedere Vodka and of course Rubin Singer.
Other special mentions that I don’t want to omit of forget are to: Sipim Sugunnasil – PR Director at SIAM Kempinski Bangkok. Always looking RAVISHING and sophisticated. Thank you for joining us and your support.
Nick and the entire team at W Bangkok. They opened their doors only a few month ago and I strongly recommend it as a must stay experience in Bangkok. We spent our last two day there and LOVED IT.
Nicolas Gygi – Public Relations Executive at HANSAR Bangkok, hosted us at the stunning Vertigo Suite off Rajdamri Road. Looking forward to working together closely in the future. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com
