The Spinning and Weaving process: The thread is turned into a double thread for giving resistance to the weaving. Then, the thread is spread to begin the weaving. It is in this step when the textile design and colors are defined. The weaving is a process of tying the vertical threads with the horizontal threads to produce a traditional Andean textile.

Awanakancha is a project of private initiative associated to 14 communities (420 families) of native people, who has made of the weaving ancestral process their principal activity and way of life.

Their main effort has given their results, the rescue and diffusion of the millenary art of Andean Weavings (5000 years of history); economic stability and family social integration between communities that participate in the project and, the most high quality in the final pieces of this hand work, which BTW can be purchased.During your visit, you will also be able to interact and feed the Camelids, such us Guanacos, Llamas, Alpahacas and Vicuñas. For more information visit A very interesting outdoor museum, that is of FREE access and will not take more than 20 minutes of your time, and you will learn more about this ancient art and get to be up close to the camelids.
