Saint James Paris Hotel | Paris, France | Located at the 16eme arrondissement, one of the most exclusive districts of Paris, stands the eclectic, traditional and uber chic Saint James Hotel designed by Bambi Sloan and globally represented by the Relais & Chateaux. Built on 1892 on the initiative of Elise Thiers, widow of Adolphe Thiers. The building, is on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne between Avenue Foch and the Avenue Victor Hugo, is the site of the first airfield in Paris, taking off grounds for hot air balloons. This is just a mere review based on my site inspection of the hotel. I have not stayed overnight or fully experienced this hotel, therefore I cannot fully endorse them.
Built in Napoleon III Style, with a true imperial look. The whole concept behind Bambi Sloan creation was curious tales from “My Fair Lady”. In 1986, it once housed the Fondation Thiers, the neoclassical building, in poor condition, was sold by its owners, the Institut de France. The mansion became the property of a British businessman who made a club in the tradition of London circles. It was then acquired by a French family in the early 1990s and converted into a residence hotel: the current Saint James Paris.
48 rooms and suites, once you access through a majestic lobby and corridors with subdued lighting. Rooms and Suites are spacious and have views of the fountain and garden, all decorated with different hued colored wall hangings, furniture, old paintings and contemporary adorns on the walls. Suites all feature a winter garden as soon as you enter the rooms.
There are a few very special bedrooms at the Saint James Paris, but two of my favorites are: The Last Queen of Scotland Bedroom, with wildcat styles and prints (video above).
And the room in tribute to Madeleine Castaing, antique dealer and interior designer who revolutionized the world of decoration, creating the style Castaing which is now a reference, and you can see recreated on room 406. Black and turquoise duet.
The Saint James Restaurant, which I did try and truly enjoyed, is located on the ground level. Only a few tables open to general public for dinner and exclusive to the hotel guests or members of the club for breakfast and lunch, a way to keep the ambiance, allure and crowd of the hotel and the restaurant in premium style and sophistication. By Chef Virginie Basselot, this denotes along with Bambi Sloan, the spirit of this hotel, with the signature of strong creative and non traditional women being the head designer and chef of the property.
