Brand new Business Class by Lufthansa on Boeings 747-8 | Lufthansa | I had the pleasure to experience the brand new Business Class configuration on Lufthansa flights from the United States to Germany, and I have truly enjoyed it. I was the only member of the LGBT Media out of Europe to be invited, and I am more than happy to share my experience with all of you. Also it is fair to mention the efforts of Lufthansa to promote and sponsor the CSD Pride Parade,(aka. local version of the Pride Parade). The state-of-the-art Boeing 747-8 featuring the new Business Class configuration is at the moment only flying from/to Washington DC, but soon it will be rolled to all other main routes, including New York City.
The experience begins before you even arrive to the airport. Email alerts, concierge services, online check Ins and iPad/iPhone friendly eTickets. Get to the airport, show the screen of you phone, drop your bags and get on your way to your next destination.
But before you board, make sure to try – at any of the airports till you reach your final destination – the Lufthansa Business Class and Senator Lounges. Specially the Welcome Lounge at Frankfurt airport, featuring full breakfasts and over 28 shower rooms, to continue on your connection to your final destination in full style.
Only approx. seven hours and thirty minutes separate Washington to Frankfurt, but indeed it seems much shorter once you try their new configuration. Full 180 seats/beds, extra comfortable pillows, cabin mood lightning concept, and the excellent service by your crew. I must say that in my case…. well it was a full dinner, 2 great movies and a short nap, and I was in Germany.
Three steps dinner signature of Chef Didier Pouzier, member of the Star Chefs program. Three options on each step, and mine were: Hors d’oeuvre Griller Shrimp with Cilantro Pecan Gremolate. (photo above). Entrees Seared Salmon, Wild Rice and Baby Carrot. (photo below).
And finality Dessert with Fresh Fruits (photo below( option and some Tea. But I must say knowing that I was Argentinean, they tried without success to trick me into a Haagen Dazs Dulce de Leche Ice Cream. Of course all matched to perfection with German and international Champagne, wines and beers. The entertainment system is interactive, updated and offering great options. I watched The Lady (which I strongly recommend to everyone) and Albert Nobbs. Wide screens and multi language platform.
Time to go to sleep, and what better than a FULL 180 flat bed right. But before …. a quick gaze through my own three windows to the horizon where the sun set in the United States and raises in Europe. (see the video below to my demonstration on how to operated the seat). Easy friendly commands.
When you wake up fresh, upon arrival to your final destination or ready for your connection, a light breakfast is served, at leisure. Remember you will be able to shower upon landing at any of the Business Class or Senator Lounges.
The flight is almost over, and despite I had an amazing flight and experience, since I always have to comment on something, here are a few things I would recommend Lufthansa to either upgrade or change: (1). Headphones do not have full noise blocking system, and when you are lying down they keep falling and moving. (2). Amenity Kit need to be improved and (3). It was a big disappointment to realize non of the flights I took were featuring WiFi access.
Have you own experience, and let me know about it. Unfortunately it is not a surprise to see the difference between Lufthansa and other carriers, the minute you step into the plane… and even before and after. Always remember fellow airlines… the duty is not to get the clients BUT to maintain them, and they do a great job.
