The Hurricane Club brings Hawaiian Cuisine to New York

The Hurricane Club brings Hawaiian Cuisine to New York  |  New York, US  |  Yes…. I arrived to the restaurant without having any idea what to expect other than the address, and the certainty that if my friend Michael choose it, was going to be quiet a ride like always. So I went along with my eyes closed. Although the main entrance, got me lost for a while, once I entered into the main room, I immediately got the vibe and the atmosphere, and as soon as they sat us and brought one of their signature drinks, the #77 Coconut with spiced Rum, coconut, cardamom and passion fruit, I asked the waiter…. is this a Hawaiian Restaurant?… ha ha ha he looked at me perplex without need of the obvious reply… YES.
Defined as Inauthentic Polynesian, at a new interpretation of an urban Tiki Bar and Restaurant,  the tradition of The Hurricane Club, began in 1873 on the Island of Lokoko on the South Pacific Seas. A yearly New York feast in commemoration of the life spare, of Captain Drake and First Mate Delilah, by the King and Queen of Lokoko. Located on Park Avenue and 26th Street, offers Dim Sum Lunches and full menu Dinners.
I would recommend a sampling of Hawaiian Tapas for the table by acclaimed Chef Craig Koketsu whom is behind one of my favorite Brunch in town – Park Avenue Summer (Autumn, Winter and Spring),  Must try are the Tuna Tartare Salad,  the Club’s Coconut Shrimps and the Candied Ginger Scallops with Maitake Mushrooms and Snow Peas. But my absolute favorite of the night was indeed the Chicken Shumai gingered Tomato sauce and parmesan.
Drinks play very well along the Polynesian Tapas, featuring some traditional options, and some other innovative alternatives, like this huge to share Caipirinha Bowl with Leblon Cachaca, spiced passion fruit and ginger, which by the way was delicious and deadly. Give it a try and you might be surprised.
