30 Thousand Buddhist Monks take over Bangkok

30 Thousand Buddhist Monks take over Bangkok  | Bangkok, Thailand    |  This morning at 7AM the streets on Chinatown in Bangkok, where literally taken over by a sort of Buddhist Monks Flash Mov, commemorating the Buddha Enlightenment and the 84th. Birthday of King Rama IX. 30 thousand Buddhist monks, gathered from corners of Thailand at 6.30AM in the morning at Chinatown to collect the Alms Giving by the local Thai people.

Alms Giving is a religious rite which, in general, involves giving materially to another as an act of religious virtue. It is not charity as presumed by Western interpreters. It is closer to a symbolic connection to the spiritual realm and to show humbleness and respect. Each Monk owns it own Alms Bowl, which they were carry with them while they walk barefooted around Bangkok.

An unique experience that not many times you will get to experience in your life, at least for those of us that leave on the Western World. I was very drown to see the young novices, which would go from 7 years old and on. Most Thai males, in respect of their mothers and families, do serve sometime of their life as a monk, either for just a few days, weeks or their whole life.
