TweetAmantaka by Aman Resorts Luang Prabang  |  Luang Prabang, Lao PDR  |    One of the many hidden gems during my last expedition to South East Asia, was to spend time exploring such an amazing destination like Lao PDR at the UNESCO protected town of Luang Prabang. And the perfect match for such mystical, relaxing and upscale destination was my stay at the Amantaka by Aman Resorts.

Set on a large garden estate, Amantaka is housed in graceful French colonial building, former hospital. Airy and elegant throughout, the décor and furnishings reflect the town’s French colonial history. Situated just south of Phousi Hill, the resort is conveniently located right in the center of town. While remaining very private and quiet, Amantaka is within strolling distance of the boutiques, bakeries and restaurants lining the town’s main street. The fabled night market, the picturesque banks of the Mekong River and the former Royal Palace are also nearby. Amantaka offers 24 suites ranging in size from 70 to 120 square metres each. In my case I got a Khan Pool Suite, featuring an outdoor private pool and lounge area.


Amantaka derives its name from the word aman, the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’, and from Tipitaka, meaning ‘the teaching of the Buddha’. Spend the day lying on the main pool or at your own villa, take one of their bicycles and explore Luang Prabang and the banks of the Mekong River,  and return to enjoy authentic Lao and French-influenced cuisine in a number of dining venues.
The Dining Room provides an airy colonial ambience while the Lounge Bar is the perfect spot for relaxing with a pre-dinner aperitif or enjoying a snifter and cigar. The breezy Pool Terrace is a casual dining spot and serves light meals all day. Breakfasts every morning are just an experience itself or professional friendly service and local cuisine.
The resort also offer a spa with self contained treatment rooms, fitness center  overlooking the swimming pool and houses, yoga studio and tennis court situated a short distance from the resort. The Library is a tranquil space in which to relax, offering a wide range of reading materials in several languages and includes reference works on many subjects. Wireless internet access is available all throughout the property.
Only comment I will have on this property, since I felt it was just magical and special, is on my point of view, that they should work a bit more on the landscape of the private pools in the suites and on some of the common areas. More green, threes and lush vegetation. Other than that, the hotels is a 100 points luxury option that perfectly blends with the landscape and experience of Luang Prabang.
