Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho | Bangkok, Thailand | Another must see and do highlight of Bangkok, just meters away from the Grand Palace and Temple of the Emerald Buddha – Wat Phra Kaew, is the gigantic figure of the Reclining Buddha and the Temple of Wat Pho. The oldest and largest temple in Bangkok.
The image of the Reclining Buddha is just IMPRESSIVE and gigantic. The 45 meter long statute depicts the Buddha entering nirvana, being just spectacular not only for its size, but for the mother-of-pearl details on the stoles of the feet, revealing 108 auspicious sings of a genuine Buddha.
Wat Pho, located in the Rattanakosin district directly adjacent to the Grand Palace, is known to be the birthplace of traditional Thai massage and medicine, featuring its own centre. Wat Pho is one of the largest and oldest wats in Bangkok, and is home to more than one thousand Buddha images.
Since the temple was also a Thai Medicine centre, thousands of Buddha images in different yoga positions are revealed all over the temple. You must take some time of your buys schedule and try to relax and enjoy taking a local Thai Massage, by one or more masseuse of the temple.
Temple of Wat Pho opens daily from 8AM till 5PM. The entrance FEE is TBH 50 (USD1,5). I would recommend walking into Wat Pho right after doing the Grand Palace, and before heading to Mount Golden or Wat Arun. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com
