So there I went, following my harsh diet, once again I sacrificed myself into a tea afternoon feast. It is said that the art of taking Afternoon Tea was introduced by the seventh Duchess of Bedford in the early 19th century. The Duchess had penchant for inviting friends to join her for discreet conversation and a mid-afternoon pick- me-up of tea and sandwiches. Her stylish Afternoon Tea soirees proved popular with London’s socialite set, and soon became fashionable for high society around the world to host similar tea parties.
Delicate finger sandwiches, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise or cucumber, and you will surely lose yourself in thought as you savour our delectable dark chocolate cake and heavenly lemon meringue. The freshly baked scones are traditional favourites, served with clotted cream and preserves, and as a special local treat, enjoy a typical South African milk tart, called “melktert” in Afrikaans. Afternoon Tea is served in the Lounge, on the Terrace or in the estate around the Garden Fountain. Daily, from 14:30 – 17:30. ZAR 165 per person. Dress Code Smart Casual. Suggestion, especially during weekends, book in advance.
