Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at Mandarin Oriental

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at Mandarin Oriental  |  London, England  |  Tonight invited by my fabulous host Sarah C. – Director of Communications at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London, to experience Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. For those not familiar with Heston Blumenthal, an English chef and owner of world renown The Fat Duck, a three-Michelin-starred restaurant in Bray, Berkshire voted Best Restaurant in the UK by The Good Food Guide 2007 and 2009, and voted best restaurant in the world by Restaurant magazine in 2005. Dinner is along with Bar Boloud the signature restaurant of the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in London.
Being a Wednesday night, I was quite impressed by the concurrence, mainly locals, some hotels guests and other chic tourists. Upon arrival, we were greeted and welcomed by Josephine – General Manager and escorted to our lovely table with wide windows overlooking Hyde Park and on the left side, the glass wall to the open kitchen. BTW there is nothing I enjoy more in a restaurant the open kitchens.
Since I am sure you will come to have your own Dinner by Heston Blumenthal experience, there are a few dishes you MUST not miss…. and I, by the expert recommendation of my host, I did. Mear Fruit (photo above) is one of the signature Staters of Dinner, which consists into a Mandarin chicken liver parfait and grilled bread (£ 13,50) just amazing. The other must are the Triple Cooked Chips  as a Side, without a doubt to be the one of the best fries I have ever tasted.
Main dish choice was the Cod in Cider, chard and fired mussels (£ 26) with side of Green beans and shallots (£ 4,50). Portions are well balanced. As you may see from the top photo, we began the night with Vodka Martinis and we continue with a great 2008 Chablis Premier Cru ‘Vaillons, Domaine Christian Moreau, Burgundy (£ 55).

To finalize this brilliant gourmet experience, and to ease our guilt, we share a Tipsy Cake, spit roast pineapple (£ 10). Tea of coffee afterwards, no way…. we carry on downstairs to the Bar Boloud  to end our night over glasses of Rose. The comment of the night was …” here at Mandarin Oriental or Dinner we do not care if your are gay or straight, from the moment you walk in you are our guest and you deserve the best treatment…” Find out more about Dinner by Heston Blumenthal at www.dinnerbyheston.com. Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, 66 Knightsbridge, London.
