Azure Real Boutique Hotel | Cordoba, Argentina | by Peter Lawrence | One of the best feelings when traveling to a foreign city is opening the door to your hotel room and knowing right away that you made the right choice. I had this feeling from the minute I walked into the lobby of the Azure Real Boutique Hotel, with its soothing peaceful decor, and the super attentive, but not intrusive staff.
Though the city offers a multitude of large well appointed and well priced options, a new addition to the hotel scene is the Azure Real Boutique Hotel, the first boutique hotel in Cordoba’s City Center. The Hotel Azure is located in an old “casona” (large home) which dates back to the year 1915. In its day, the home functioned as both a home and a business (drug store, restaurant and student residence for the college Deán Funes, whose students included Ernesto Che Guevara).
The Azur Real is comprised of 14 distinct rooms within the hotel, each incorporating modern design with old world Spanish charm. Each room has 32” LCD satellite TV, mini bar and work desk, and the hotel offers excellent free high speed wifi coverage from every part of the hotel; and it is high speed wifi you can count on as a business traveler. Whether you are relaxing from a day of touring the city, or working on your latest business plan, the hotel offers a beautiful and peaceful central living room space and library, and has an excellent in house restaurant called El Papagayo who’s Chef Piter Garcia Venegas hails from a well respected restaurant La Gloria de Lima, Peru. A full breakfast buffet is included in the room price and can even be delivered to your room as requested. Other facilities include a jacuzzi/swimming pool and lounge on the top floor terrace.
The location of the Azure is perfect for touring the historic city center and you are steps from the neighborhood that is now called Viejo Córdoba, (Manzana Jesuitica, or Jesuit Block and the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba). The hotel is a short walking distance to attractions such as Museo Superior de Bellas Artes, the Cathedral of Cordoba, Patio Olmos Shopping, and Paseo del Buen Pastor, a former women’s prison that in 2007 was reborn as an upscale shopping, dining and entertainment center, complete with art exhibits, shops and gourmet restaurants.
If you are looking for something distinctive, supremely comfortable and well located, I highly recommend the Azure Real Boutique Hotel as the best option in Cordoba City. It’s always nice to have good memories of your hotel experience in addition to the sights and sounds of your destination. Room #9 where I stayed, overlooking the courtyard was super-perfect, although in this hotel, you can’t go wrong. But take note of the fact that there are only 14 rooms, so plan your stay in advance and don’t miss out!
