Mini Trekking Perito Moreno Glacier

Mini Trekking Perito Moreno Glacier |  El Calafate, Argentina |  Literally an unique experience. Walk over ancient ice, over the Perito Moreno Glacier. No previous skills needed. Vibrant colors, waterfalls, and peaks. Icy shapes, cracks, and lakes. Caves, bridges, and walls. And the opportunity to be in direct contact with the glacier during a trek guided by experts.
I personally did this tour myself a few year ago and truly enjoyed the experience and the views for on top of the glacier. Pictures above are me, at Los Glaciares National Park.
Perito Moreno mini trekking tour leaves from Bajo de las Sombras port, where visitors get onboard the boat and sail along the waters of the Rico River Arm. From there, the South Wall of Perito Moreno Glacier can be seen. After 20 minutes, visitors disembark at a wharf on the rocks. The tour is an invitation to cross on foot a forest of ñires, typical trees in the area characterized by their strong colors, and then reach the Lake beach after a 15-minute walk. There, the guides will provide a detailed explanation on glacier formation. Visitors will put on the crampons that enable improved traction on the ice.
Now the trek starts, with the trail featuring natural beauty at all times: waterfalls formed by smelt waters, a field of seracs (fragmented and sharp ice blocks), cracks and lakes. At the end of the tour, you will be invited with a glass of Whisky on the rocks. Guess where the ice comes from…. When returning, passengers will have the lunch they’ve prepared because there are no nearby stores. So my recommendation is get you own lunch and beverage to take with you to the tour. Most hotels at El Calafate provide this service to their guests. After returning to the harbor, a bus drives passengers to the wooden pathways of Perito Moreno Glacier, where 1-2 hours will be given to walk freely along them. Maximum Age: 65 years / Minimum Age: 10 year. Pregnant women not allowed.

The immensity of Perito Moreno Glacier can be enjoyed in both its dimensions and its colors, as well as in the echoing, thunderous sounds of constantly falling ice blocks. The visit to Perito Moreno is a chance to delight in a unique natural scenery. The southern side of Perito Moreno is a wonderful open view of nature: during this tour, visitors will have a chance to see the entire glacier and witness falling ice blocks.

Los Glaciares Park and Natural Reserve was declared World (Natural) Heritage Site by UNESCO. It includes Lakes Viedma and Argentino and nearby areas, and also part of the ice field from which the glaciers Moreno, Onelli, Agassiz and Upsala originate, with a front of 5 km (3 mi.). Perito Moreno glacier descends to Argentino Lake and its 35-kilometer (21 mi.) long and 70-meter (230 ft.) high wall above water level can be admired, with vibrant colors ranging from white to turquoise. Carlos Melia Luxury Travel Curator – www.carlosmelia.com
